nice work, better then a lot of these other instructors who say stuff like "try to find the emotion of the chord". to a beginner ,What the hell does that mean lol
3 minutes before you point out the main thing: USE YOUR EARS, meaning don't get stuck in what you're playing, just listen what's going on musically anf then figure out what to play
I'm also a guitar instructor and I appreciate your take on this but I think you could give people a little more to go on than this. I would guess that many people who watched this video are still confused on how to know what scale to use. I also don't think you should refer to theory as "mumbo jumbo". It's hard enough to get students to warm up to learning a bit of theory.
@MrRockmeister1 I agree with this. Chances are that most of the folks watching are already familiar with pentatonics, and are seeking something a little more..... clever? Teaching that pentatonics work over a variety of chord voicings isn't really instructive. You should, IMHO, explain that emphasizing the notes that are common, as well as adding the new notes that occur in the chord you change TO, during phrasing would be more helpful. Train the ear to 'hear' those and use them.
Hey. Thx for the effort. I really like your style of teaching. The problem I have with minor pent is that it gets predictable. Also my ear is so used to hearing minor pent that whenever I throw in a 2nd or 6th it just seems out of place. Even when I know in theory it should work. Sometimes it works but not often. Any thoughts on that ?
