It's something called an "Irish bouzouki." I wish HBO would hire him for Game of Thrones 2012 season. I wish Amazon would carry his CD'sin the United States. More, more, more, more!
this is the absolute example of a BARD singing lores in the medieval ages...some of his songs his melody is so haunting it makes my skin crawl!! AWESOME!!!
This is just amazing, far better then anything we have today.. and all of this is done by 1 man.. It's like he is explaining of a tale, just in the music he sings and plays.. just wow. brilliant.
I am in shock and awe, not just because of the incredible voice on this man. The fact that he covered my favorite Qntal song just made all of the bad surrounding this day disappear. Haldirforpresident, I deeply thank you for making this available for everyone to hear.
@Feanor940 Really?? Man, thanks for setting me straight on this. I had no idea this song was that ancient. By the way, awesome collection of black metal tunes dude.
@Jedidiah0217 Thx mate, I always like to dig deeper extreme metal.
And yeah =) I'm french so I cant tell u this is an old song probably created by a bard/minstrel from the country of Picardie of the 13th century, in the land of Béthune, maybe the bard was Conon de Béthune, but that's not sure.
This song comes from a collection of texts created by anonymous minstrels, and belongs to the "Songs of Dawn". It tells the mourn of the lovers who have to leave each other at the dawn.
@Feanor940 Once again, thanks are in order. This is the most I've learned about this song since I first heard it 8 years ago. My ignorance is probably not very surprising considering my home country, but I greatly appreciate you sharing your knowledge of this song's origins. If black metal is only a fraction of the extreme metal you enjoy, check out Son Of Aurelius, Blotted Science, Vehemence, and Amogh Symphony. The least I can do in return is recommend them to you. Cheers, man.
@Jedidiah0217 My pleasure dude ;) nice to meet genuine person so I try to help as much as possible and yah I can imagine it could be very hard for u to find good informations bout this kind of music! even me a french has difficulties to be sure of smth bout that^^. I see u're a big fan of Qntal, nice =) it's a really good band imo too.
Thx for sharing ur fav bands, I'll check out them all ! and if Black Metal is one my fav style, I worship too Doom, Sludge, Death, Drone, Prog !
@Feanor940 The feeling is mutual, I am glad you corrected me about this song! Indeed, Qntal is awesome. Syrah's voice has been known to moisten the eyes on a few occasions not unlike Mr. Arbogast here.
You are very welcome! Very few of my friends will even listen to metal, Slayer being the heaviest most can deal with, so it is my pleasure. If I may make one last recommendation: Forest Stream. Their whole album The Crown of Winter is here on youtube, perhaps you will enjoy :)
@Jedidiah0217 I agree dude, I really like actually the earlier Qntal stuff, amazing atmosphere. But for this song I think Luc's voice isn't so good as it could be ! Just check out the live version in "Cormontreuil", far more moving, I just feel that his voice is not crushed by studio sound.
I listened to Forest Stream, but I'm not really into this style, yet good but it doesn't make feel smth. I will check the others bands you've talked about thx, have a good day man, bye
i've only listened to like two songs of this guy...and it seems like forever has gone by...but its only been 20 mins....feels like time doesn't exist anymore....timeless....fascinating

He didn't cover Qntal dude, this song is old, very old, it's a french song from medieval times (12/13 century).
Un bijou cette voix.
