  • I bought a service contract for my Dell computer. I have doccumentation. They have no record of my purchase. They often hang up on me and once one of their techs went into my computer and uninstalled a bunch of stuff. My computer was so messed up that I couldn't use it. I finally did a factory image restore myself to fix it. I will never own another Dell computer. Gotta say though, I have never had a problem with anyone in the Philipines or Canada.

  • Theres a Lemon Law against this. if you've had to repair your computer more than 4 times and they dont resolve the issue you should be entitled for a refund or full replacement.

  • I owned an Alienware M17X (aka a Dell computer as Alienware was bought by them). I called support 17, ironic yes, times for a bad graphics card in a BRAND NEW computer and at last they offered me an exchange for a refurbished model. Excuse me...I bought new and you want to send me a repaired model? Will they send me money too? What a joke. I had my credit card company cancel my payment and sent the computer back as the card company suggested. I now own a Sony Vaio F Series with great support.

  • i had to call like 40 something times in less than a year for my crappy dell inspiron 1545!!! i already called and bitched at them! but my computer wasn't within the 28 day warranty to replace it! i will never buy a dell laptop again...

  • Dell is absolutely the worst company in the WORLD!!! I was a sucker! Now I'm in Dell HELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Dell you should be ashamed.. Worst computer I have ever owned. ABSOLUTELY the worst customer service EVER!!!!!!!!!!!

  • My computer died a few months back, I ended up calling Dell and they told me my mother board was dead, and I'd have to pay 250 dollars to purchase a new mother board.. I then got my computer to turn on based on pure chance. Then I found out my hard drive wa simply full and that was the only problem...

  • oh god another inspiron 9300...lol :)

  • I'm selling my Dell Inspiron 9300. Bought it back in July of 2005 thanks to slickdeals posting a $850 or so coupon for this laptop. Good laptop and it even runs Windows 7. BUT, I just recently started receiving perm vertical lines on my monitor. Then I found out that people received recall notices about this a while back, but I never did! I'm sure if I called them about this that I wouldn't get anywhere with getting it warranty replaced. Sucks bad.

  • Dell sucks having problem with them. had my computer 2 months and the past 3 weeks been on the phone with them 4-6 hours a day. Wont refund me wont send me new one. Just got off the phone with them. Some calls arent even being logged with them anymore or so one representative informed me. Sent them emails. Stuck with 2 thousand dollar computer i wanna cry!

  • oohh.. god I'm gonna be plagued with problems aren't I? I'm getting this computer from a friend for free tomorrow, and hes claimed he hasn't had really any problems with it other then one of 2 keys falling off. - what kind of problems should I expect if I'm going to use this like a desk top (monitor, speakers, usb mouse and keyboard, and cd/dvd drive)

  • if you are going to do all that, be prepared for its display to get dead pixels. it may fail (the display) or the keyboard will stop working. if you don't drop it (even in the slightest) the HDD will last a long time. watch for surges. otherwise, it may run for a long time.

be careful not to be spilling things onto it.

  • keyboard stop working? its a usb keyboard so Id hope not, dropping it and spilling on it will be quite hard from the location of my current laptop where it will go (and it never moves)

surges, umm ok my current surge protector should handle that, umm dead pixels... it will get that from using a monitor? that Ive never heard of before - and I hope you mean the computers and not my monitor-I don't wanna damage this thing.

Well Thank you for helping, Its a free laptop so I cant really complain.

  • cool dude im gonna start recording phone calls when they say this call may be recorded for quality assurance.

  • dell sucks,

    prducts and customer service

  • I've had nothing but great customer service from dell. They replaced a broken screen 2 years after warranty for no charge. They let me return a computer and get an upgrade, at no cost to me, when I misread a description. Now it is 2 years later, the screen has failed again, on a 6 year old laptop mind you, and a box is being shipped to me so I can send it in to get replaced again.

Their customer service is why I will always consider a dell when I choose to buy a computer.

  • buy a new laptop you cheapskate

  • true, i have heard good about their customer service, but this call... it makes me think again.

  • Ive learned that with Dell, you either get a great computer, or you get "Dell Hell". Which seems to be a 50/50 shot. But all you see is consumer complaints because people seem to focus on the bad more than the good. Ive owned 2 Dells. A 2 year old desktop that I just retired 6 months ago, and my recent XPS M1530 laptop. Both of which Ive never had any problems with, hardware or of any other sort. I guess with Dell you just gotta keep your fingers crossed and hope you dont get a lemon.

  • I've been lucky with my XPS and have not had any major problems. However a relative of mine was having trouble with getting their Dimension 4700 started, and getting support took an entire day. Person never called back, had to call back again, where they had us go through a BIOS reset. Then another person...The PS2 port went bad and we had to get a new USB keyboard, which fortunately works fine. It is like dealing with retarded people...and my relative paid $50 for this "premium" service.

  • Yes, Dell is a horrible company.

1)I too have called day after day for months but I go to the higher ups (the boss of the woman you spoke with for example.)

She may hate dell as much as you but they give her a paycheck and at the end of the day, your complaint only goes so far as her brain, and she'll either be bogged down with them (thousands) by that evening, or she'll have a beer or two and laugh at the poor shmuck who complained earlier.

All im saying is, you get more bees with honey.

  • Geez dude, what do you do to your computers? Do you jizz on the computer to short out the keyboard or something?! I am surprised Dell still deals with you. You should thank them for dealing with you after all your issues. I would have told you to just deal with your own problems after about 20 calls.

  • If you were so unhappy with the original purchase, and you hadn't paid for it why didn't you just return it? The service tag number and Windows Auth code is stored in your system. So that's no problem. You don't need a sticker. I cant see blaming Dell for spyware you were infected with. I've always built my own PC's, but recently got a Dell. I don't think it's a great PC, but it was a deal and well worth the price. Not saying you didn't have real complaints though! (BTW, I'm a ASUS fan as well)

  • because after 14 days they won't take it back.

  • i hate Dell my insprion also break down all the time. in 6 motnhs it broke down many times and when i tried to retured it the wanted to still charge me for the computer. DON'T BUY DELL they will rip you off.

  • over the last 3 years having my 9300, my computer has had numerous hardware issues (ie broken monitor, dvd drive not working, battery no longer working etc). But when I had warranty it was taken care of ASAP. the trouble is when u run out of service then they charge u your right testicle

  • u know, bitchin around wont help you.

  • chuibock, there are entire fields devoted to consumer complaints. without them, everything would suck.

  • @chuibock depends on who hears you bitch.

  • I had a Toshiba and there is NO service whatsoever. I've had annoying bugs since the day I had this computer. I've changed (myself) the hard drive, I had overheating problems, intermitent shutdowns, weird keyboard problems, power supply died and wasn't detected when plugged.

During all that time, my girlfriend had 2 Dell laptops and... she had no problem whatsoever.

I also know people who had problems with Apple machines.

Honestly,is there ONE brand of computer that you can absolutely rely on?

  • Yeah my Uncle had a Toshiba and had alot of the problems you mentioned. They are worse than Dell. I had a Gateway a while ago and the Dell XPS was a much better system.

  • UPDATE: The LCD was replaced again, but the tech support guy lost my rubber LCD protector feet (while I was standing there). Of note, the 1150 was replaced 2 times before it was replaced with a 9300. The second 1150 had heating issues and would only operate for 45 minutes. 7 Keyboards went into that one.

  • any more stuff replaced since 1 month ago?

  • wow.............

    dell, you suck bad

  • Wow, I've been lucky on the laptop front. I've had a 9300 as my work laptop, I've cycled to Uni and back more-or-less every day for over 2 years and had no problems. I did have to return the battery though. I also have an Alienware m9750 for gaming. Now that Alienware is owned by Dell, I'm a bit worried about the Indian customer service from Dell, which, here in the UK, is just plain dire. Probably time to try out another company, maybe Apple?

  • A rough estimate for the time I've spent talking to Dell on the telephone: 90 * 0.5 hours = 1 week of work! Dell owes me 2 laptops!

  • I also wanted to ask why did you need so many parts replaced so many times, and do you still have this laptop?

  • Yes, I use it daily for work. It rarely leaves my desk. I have built it's replacement: an ASUS desktop. During the 4 month period between the purchase and the second replacement 1150, I lost over $5000 in consulting work because my machine kept overheating after 45 min. Since then I lost additional time in November 2005 because it was infected multiple times by a Dell-specific piece of spyware that forces the keyboard to repeat the letter "L" while you type at odd intervals during the day.

  • So there were four laptops: the original one with the screw loose, the second one which was its 'replacement' (2 weeks after buying it), the third one which I had for 6 months after that which was the same model (1150) with horrible heating issues, and the fourth one which was a 9300 refurb. All in all I've gone through 3 laptops, 17 keyboards (1150 and 9300), 13 motherboards (1150 and 9300), 4 LCD panels, 3 Wi-fi cards (they sent the wrong one once) and 2 9300 case components.

  • To further clarify, laptop 1 purchased April 2004: had it for 2 weeks, shipped it back when laptop 2 arrived: heating issues got worse and worse in San Diego, I had it replaced after 6 months; it was replaced with the same model, only after I paid a settlement, I moved to Pennsylvania, in the dead of winter it would shut down after 45 minutes of use; after 6 months of arguing it was finally replaced in 2005 (Inspiron 9300). The 9300 worked great but the LCDs kept losing pixels and got infected.

  • Yes i see where you are coming from the Inspiron 9300 was just one big Fault. But i now have the 'Newer' Inspiron 6400 which i have had for 4 months now and i have not had any problems yet...

  • My 9300 Case is all cracked and scratched and i have been at them to send me a new one but they always just say that its just wear and tear and they will only send if it actually affects the laptops performance.

  • Do you have "complete care"?

  • No not that i know of...

  • I have Complete Care, I paid $500 for it. That's why they'll replace anything that is damaged.

  • Thats good, can i upgrade to that?

  • yes, it's $250. good luck figuring out how to do that in the maze... i actually talked to AMERICANS to get that renewed. they offered a discount in June 07

  • I just put my Insprion up on ebay, im upgrading to the XPS M1710. But if i have any problems with that then i won't be going back to Dell for my next PC =)

  • I have a Inspiron 9300 too, and i have had the keyboard replaced 3 times and the motherboard,wi-fi card and touchpad replaced, but Dell delt with the problem straight away so that was ok.

  • How long have you owned "it"?

  • I got it on January 2006 it cost $2200 with the 3 year hardware waranty. Also what were you talking about in the video when you said dell took the express service code from you ????

  • The tech replaced the bottom case of my computer, and in doing so, took a panel with the service tag/request service code numbers. He then shipped it back to Dell. He gave me blank ones because it is no longer permitted by Dell to send replacement stickers. The only way I get service is because it is committed to my own brain's memory. I'm not going to scrawl it on the bottom of my computer since I've memorized it.

  • Did you get the replacement battery? Because some of the batteries for the 9300 are explosive (added feature: kill the customer).

  • No my Battery was fine, i checked on the Dell site by inputing the code on the back of the battery, but maybe i should have sent for a new battery just incase

  • lmao that is horrible ill be happy once i get rid of my dell im on my second battery and 3rd ac adapter.(in a year and a half) DELL=HELL

  • The previous model (the one I bought) came with a screw loose in the fan cabinet. It was replaced, but had a heating issue and would shut itself off at ~45 minutes, making it impossible to work. I refused to pay for it and they threatened sending a constable to collect it. They replaced its keyboard 7 times before they replaced the unit, after paying a settlement for around 2/3rds the original price. I'm banned from "Dell Preferred" forever, and the India branch is still trying to collect $800
