  • Bonobos are incredible smart. I got one as a pet and he was very educated. He would sleep on the backyard and got up at 6am to do some chores. He was very smart. He cleaned the floor, and let the dogs come out. Eventually I had to castrate him because he was very horny. He lived a happy life until 10 year. then he got food poisoning and died. I was really sad. However, I am getting another Bonobo in 2 month !

  • @jcgonzmo

that is animal abuse - this is resarch and i still dont think its taht ok

to grow apes as a pet is stricktly wrong

  • @jcgonzmo So you get a bonobo, put him in a cramped living space, made him do work for you, castrated him, and he eventually died of food poisoning he would have likely not gotten if he was living in a better environment, and you plan to get another bonobo? you obviously aren't that smart.

  • @jcgonzmo I hope that new Bonobo rips your face off if you do. The only people allowed to keep primates should be people like Sue Savage-Rumbaugh.

  • Have you tried to teach Kanzi the Earth is round?

  • and people say we arent related to them?

what a beautiful thing to be related to such gentle, beautiful, caring creatures!

sure, they may get wild and aggressive, but so do human beings!

this video is a testament to the traits we would probably never think existed in animal species -- the natural world is a fascinating place!

  • Love this vid! Thanks for sharing.

  • @rachelcapt225 R U serious

  • im just amazed, yes PLEASE keep us posted, every birthday, and more....thank you all so much

  • Has Kanzi ever showed Teco how to use the lexigram?

  • This is the first vid ive watched today and im glad I did, it put a huge smile on my face. THANKYOU!

  • DiaperS?

  • Jaw drops

  • Just love this so much!

  • Kanzi is a good dad

  • Thank you for your comment, I was aware of that I was just curious if Kanzi knew that Teco his son. Thanks again for sharing I appreciate it.

  • This is AWESOME!!! the way kanzi keeps patting Teco on the back, the way he plays with him it's like watching human behavior. I LOVE these animals.

  • I have autism!

  • @att20ful cool story bro, tell it again

  • They're not in jail, they're happy.

  • They,

  • I love watching these videos, thank you so much...

  • Kanzi is so gentle with Teco, very sweet...

  • Dr. Sue is wonderful and caring of the bonobo, does Kanzi realize Teco is his son?

  • @lucymarykathyrn With bonobos it probably doesn't matter too much knowing who is who's offspring, as the whole group cares for the baby. Kanzi may or may not see Teco as his own, but a baby that should be raised and loved. Kanzi himself was raised by a bonobo that was not his mother.

  • Sad news guys, on their website there is a link to a news article describing Teco as possibly autistic.

  • @Marasma101 I just heard about that, but maybe it's not sad, maybe teco being autistic will provide a new window for cognitive research. Autistic humans display incredible amounts of intelligence (superhuman infact) in one perticular area. Maybe if Teco is autistic, he can do the same. :)

  • @whitewolfwithblackSP You're exactly right. And autism results from an over-production of brain cells in the area of the brain responsible for computation so maybe Teco will be able to achieve amazing things.

  • @Marasma101 I hope they open a window of opportunity for Teco at this early age, to find that 'thing' it could be so amazing and offer more insight to human autism and it's potential, limits, and development! :D

  • Without sign language I think it would be hard for an ape to pass on its abilities. Koko is very promising in that regard.

  • There might be a moment in history of our planet when bonobos will study themselves through these videos.

  • @QuickRefs That is exactly the thought I had while watching these videos. I just wonder if humans will still be around if/when that happens.

  • his behavior likes humans

  • For a brief moment, I thought Kanzi was a human in an ape suit, it was acting so human-like.

  • Teco's autistic right?

  • Kanzi has got some HUGE guns. I bet he's stronger than even the strongest human.

  • and there's me thinking i had big balls lmfao

  • I don't particularly like apes or monkeys but this is really amazing video, truly amazing.

  • Also, I'd like to add that many researchers have risked and even lost their lives to protect Bonobos.

  • Like others have said, do your homework before you criticize these researchers. Bonobos are greatly endangered. Their habitats are destroyed, and they are often killed and eaten by humans in their natural habitat in the Congo. Without the help of these researchers the Bonobos might already all be extinct.

  • Please, anyone questioning in specific about Bonobos in captivity should think twice. But not only that, travel to the DR Congo and see for yourself. Then you will understand why Bonobos must be saved. This is no joke. Leaving them on their own and let Darwinism work its way through their life will be a definite extinction of these great members of our family. Humans are just too powerful and they decide between life and death. So far, death was the choice for the Bonobos...

  • This may make interesting "research" findings and entertainment but my heart goes out to these animals being held captive for their lives as if they were some criminals in jails...really inhuman in my opinion.

  • @instirahul - well, better than to be killed -and possibly eaten- by some inhumane humans. problem is that human overpopulation is overwhelming all other creatures in this world. putting them "behind bars" is the least we can do to save them from us.

  • This is so adorable. He's a very good dad!

  • Teco even crawls like a human baby <3

I wonder....we learn to crawl before walking upright as infants :) I love being a great ape lol

  • I've never seen any chimp act this fatherly towards a baby.

  • This video is nuts. These Apes should be FREE. Fucking in jail, no freedom unless the human says so. Enjoy your titalation, the viewing pleasure. Losers.

  • ive seen dogs do this also with babies...nothing that special honestly...

  • I love this video but I still question its ethics.

Save the chimps have a policy of no breeding in captivity whilst minimising interaction with humans. In other words all research is done remotely, allowing the apes to live as apes.

We may be happier and wiser watching Kanzi press the buttons but is he? Apes only have the right to control other adult apes if they are dangerous. Potential future benefits for a species is not a valid reason to 'research' an individual.

    Is Kanzi happier?

  • It really is amazing how alike they are to us. Kanzi looks just like a dad playing with his kid, showing him it is a game and smiling at him. The part that got me was when it said he was keeping direct eye contact. Very intriguing. I hope to see more as Teco gets older.

  • Alright, that was probably the cutest thing I've seen in a while. It's... unreal, how human they are.

  • Her son Teco exhibited many of autistic-like signs. He displayed communicative and social difficults. He also exhibited repetivive behaviors. This is evdivence that autism may existed in prehistory and it is blessing in ancient socities, instead of curse.

  • @averyhse Woooh-I disagree entirely. What autistic tendencies does this baby chimp display, exactly? I work with autistic kids and I don't see any. Furthermore, IF autism existed in prehistory-it certainly wasn't a blessing. The inability to communicate with other people, or understand the environment, would have gotten a prehistoric person killed-and possibly some of his friends/family. Sorry, but autism isn't a" blessing" nowadays, and it certainly wasn't in prehistory.

  • how many generations have you been teaching apes? i really hope that we as a human race, begin to appreciate and start uplifting other species in this world. just think of the possibilities

  • What we are seeing here is a further substantiation caregiver/offspring nurturance based practices (here interspecies-wise) that Developmentally leads to (allows for) the emergence of healthy stages or functional-emotional developmental milestones (that formerly and some still do define as primarily human), for example, simple to complex pleasurable joint attention; increasing deepening circles of affect-gestural communication and utterances, leading to mastery of separation of ideas (symbols)

  • ..from fixed modalities of thought (or in disordered functioning, all or nothing catastrophic responses). This work continues to be so utterly crucial for both the harmony and understanding of consciousness and the much closer or contiguous parallel relationships between non-human and human primates, and in fact at varying levels all species. It is primary caregiver nurturance based practices that lead towards the emergence and integration of healthy emotional-developmental milestones that

  • each child (child human or child bonobo) can/must go through to attain healthy integrative and higher functioning. This interspecies teaching (or co-ooperative co-mingling nurturance) is one bright light, if you will, at the end of our human consciousness tunnel; a type of integration, cross harmony, education and learning. Teco is especially interesting (indeed fascinating) because here we see higher-levels in non-human primate (bonobo) between achieved much earlier. One of the grand questions

  • is will then, the higher affect-gestural motor capacities, and earlier emergence of symbolic (leading to more complex usage; symbolic sequencing of , for example, grey area thinking or more complex thought also follow a greater command, use and control of the vocal system (towards more refined and nuanced expressive speech/language communication); Perhaps, the board used for communication will become secondary. That would indeed be a breakthrough, the kind of which we have never seen (presently)

  • Love Kanzi!

  • wow, look at the nuttbag on that guy.

  • there were moments in that video, looking into kanzi's face, when i felt that he was some kind of human hybrid straight from a hollywood horror flick. Like a flash of science fiction or being back in time for a fleeting moment. it's some mix between disconcerting and deeply ethereal.

  • He's HUGE! wow!

  • He looks like such a proud Papa! I was so pleased to see Kanzi has had children:)

  • Thanks and please keep posting! Kanzi is awesome. A smart and gentle giant.

  • From NPR story by Ursula Goodenough

Of late, something has "kicked in" that Sue calls Teco's sense of free will. He's now circumspect with unfamiliar humans and bonobos alike, taking time to warm up to them. He's "his own little person," a transformation that typically occurs in human babies at about 9-10 months and occurs in Teco in the context of both his genetic endowment and the Pan/Homocultural ambience of the Trust.

  • @QuestonGuy From NPR story by Ursula Goodenough

Teco comes into a room where Kanzi and Sue are sitting. Sue first asks Kanzi to take off Teco's diaper and he does so deftly, pulling on one plastic strip and then the other. Then, instead of picking Teco up as he would have done pre-free-will, Kanzi moves into a corner, sits down, and watches while the baby scampers about. Whenever Teco comes near, Kanzi reaches out and gently strokes him.

  • From NPR story by Ursula Goodenough He then tries to engage the baby in little-kid-style games: he strums his fingers on the floor, looking up hopefully to see if that draws attention; when it doesn't, he scoots along the floor pushing a large sheet of paper and Teco runs after it; he then does the same thing with a box.

  • Respond to this video... Throughout the clip, Kanzi evinces the heart-warming interest of a new Dad — eager to be accepted, eager for relationship, yet respectful of his son's space and personhood. Does Kanzi know that Teco is his son? Does Teco think that Sue is his mother?

  • Oh. My. God. This is beyond precious. It is only going to get better and better as Teco gets bigger and stronger. Please keep us posted with videos!

  • Now that is awesome!!! Maybe this guy should teach some human men to be good dads...Just saying!!!

  • that was so beautiful, kanzi is so gentle

  • So sweet!!!

  • Great video.

  • i love these videos how about a web cam?maybe even a once a year charge

  • how old is kanzi now?
