I have two of them and I also really love those Low wattage G12 Celestions. Im actually running a Degitech GSP1101 for just some effects through the loop. Sure feels good!
Best amp I ever owned. I have played through Marshalls from the 70s and Laney-Peavey 5150s and Mesaboogie-Line6..... Old Marshall heads form the 70s.. And this 5150III is like a Marshall on steroids.
Music is not theory....music is " take instrument and play ! " , so play that amp :/ , i don't want to hear your talking... i can read all that stuff on net -.- .
IMHO, The original 5150 was more to my liking. $3,100 for a half stack is just too expensive. IMHO Ed is gouging his fans & customers. I'm sure it's a well made amp that will last forever. But my $1,400 5150 half stack still works perfectly too.
can any1 tell me if you can get near to the van halen 1 album tone on this amp, because i reall want the tone plus the amp, or is a marshall plexi a better product for the tone??
There's way too much shit in this amp. Ed's tone now is nothing like it was back in the day. He always used to say simple is better. There's so many knobs and channels on this thing. His tone came from 6 knobs all cranked, a re-wound pickup, and his fingers.
@asianaxeman ya it does sound muddy and there's know definition in this amp's tone because that's what happens when you put 8 12AX7's in one amp there's so much distortion you lose sound quality plus the the cab only has 100 watt power rating that's way to low for this amp trust me on this one because unlike most people I've actually tried out this amp and it's not as good as everyone says it is
A lot of these guys are spokesmen for multiple companies at once. You'd think that companies would be a bit more exclusive about who demos and reviews their gear.
I take it you don't really know who he is? He's Nick Bowcott, guitarist for the 80's melodic power metal group Grim Reaper, and long-time contributor/columnist to most of the major guitar magazines. He's also endorsed by Dean Guitars. He always downplays his own playing, but seriously, he could play circles around most guys.

Nicks a great rep, and it's what he doesn't say about this amp that speaks loudest. Very honest review thanks Nick.

The gain on Nick's voice was amazing, those words were harmonically rich, just a bit o' saturation but he cleans it up with a whisper.

And a variac that eventually ruined that amp with the famous brown sound. Shame really but that is the price of good tone.
