What can we do to do more of this? This stuff works if we work it. If oil prices go down, it will be a win win for all. Everything is impacted by oil prices. Stop patronizing the big gas companies, Shell, Chevron, BP, Amocco, Texaco, and so on. People in their local cities should pick a couple of stations for people to purchase fuel for 3 or four days. Car pool with your co-workers. Ride a bike, use public transportation. Just try to stay away from the pumps as long as you can. If you aren't a part of the solution, then you are part of the problem. How do you figure an Owner Operator Truck Driver makes big bucks? It costs 60-70 cents a mile for fuel, most companies pay owners less than a dollar per mile, through in a fuel surcharge of 50 cents, $1.50/ mile and up to $0.70/mile is fuel. That leaves $0.80/ mile for a truck payment, maintenance, and living (he or she and their kids). Then you have to figure in taxes. An owner operator is barely scraping by anymore.

im on the phone with my uncle hes runnin cabbage mountain in oregon he said it took 800 gallons from coast to coast with fuel at 4.15 a gallon thats 3320 the load payed 12000 it was a oversized volvo front end loader give or take a few thousand and the operater walks away with a 7000 dollar check even after paying a truck and trailer payment

Fuel then brokers hiding under a umbrella of secrecy, 935 carriers with 10 or more trucks fell last month. Costs are up at the store, but rates are not being passed to the trucks. The middle guys are padding their pockets. The shippers are dictating the rates. Big bank brokers. When secrecy of rates is allowed, people become very Powerful. Consumers pay a high price for this secrecy.
