People please don't let your sisters,mothers or daughters go out alone with out some type of protection ! At the very least look in to something like pepper spray or a stun gun depending on your state and local laws.

You're absolutely correct! If you can, get your CCW. If that doesn't work for you pepper spray or stun gun. If you don't have/cant get those, keep a sharp pencil behind your ear or in your hair. When you are in the situation where you put your hands in the air (like you're giving up) that pencil is right there by your hand. Neck, eyes, throat all venerable spots.
Bottom line is make sure you have protection.
