  • I can't believe as such a genius to begin with, Lucas ended up as such a greedy douchebag

  • @thewindsurfguy He is not a greedy douchebag. Just because he wants money, doesn't mean he is greedy, or a douchbag.

  • @RatBowlz then he's just an idiot lol he milked the franchise until it was ruined. I think it was for money, but if you want to believe he was just stupid....go ahead

  • I know hind site is 20/20, but it amazes me that during the whole time Harrison Ford was delivering lines to potential Lukes and Leias, Lucas couldn't see him as the best candidate for Han Solo. Just that cynical edge to his voice would have been enough to convince me...

  • Mark looks so feminine lol

  • How the hell does Mark remember those lines? His hair in the photo lol XD

  • Kurt Russell was pretty awful compared to Harrison Ford

  • @anthonyigo he was too young

  • I thought it was awesome how mark still remembered his audition line EXACTLY how he read it in 1977

  • i will always remember mark hamill as the joker in the batman cartoon lol :D

  • this is what happens when genius is in the right hands.

  • this is what happens when genius is the right hands.

  • 4:30

    That's what she said.

  • @CrazyRsQuester lolololololololololololol

  • 1:00 The foresight to retain international merchandising rights.

  • That guy with the beard at 1:28. didn't he play the helicopter pilot who was eaten in "Jaws 2"?

  • Mark Hammil may always be know as Luke (Or the Joker) But what a role to be know for, he plays the hero in one of the most popular movies of all time.

  • I love how I go "I love Star Wars" and people go "pft, nerd" You guys watch your mouth with your precious Harry Potter and Jersey Shore.

  • @DJeatsBAGELS Hey, I'm a huge Star Wars fan and a huge Harry Potter fan. Just because someone calls you a nerd doesn't necessarily mean they're a Harry Potter fan. I hate Jersey Shore, so that's that. Harry Potter, in it's own sense, is a cultural phenomenon just as Star Wars is. Harry Potter isn't bad or worthless, it spawned a whole new pop culture phenomena.

  • I don't think people realize or even appreciate the fact George Lucas symbolized the true American dream , he had control over his own creation - creatively and financially. Kids these days don't understand the concept of hard work and sacrifice in order to make your vision come true.

  • I hate it when kids say " I don't like Star Wars." I can't even tell them how Star War was made. I'm thankful my little brother likes the Original Trilogy and the Prequel Trilogy.

  • wait....kurt russel??? is that you??? :O wow. small world....

  • mark hamill: "who talks like this???"

    lol :D

  • @xNeptuneRisingx Who said i thought that was a bad thing :P?

  • man mark hammil was so obviously the right choice.

  • 4:25 Lorne Peterson: "I was originally hired to work on the Death Star..."

    Stormtroopers everywhere were jealous.

  • I love this documentary! Incredibly fascinating to see this part of how it is starting to take shape too.

  • That visual effects team were blatantly a bunch of stoners

  • 2 dislikes??? Reality 2 scary for you guys? its just a film

  • I commend Lucas for working under stress in the '70s and '80s, but the guy ran out of energy. Guys like Gary Kurtz helped to really solidify the first two movies. After that Lucas just hired a bunch of Yes Men to agree to any dull bullshit he felt like squirting out.

Watch Mr. Plinkett's reviews of the 3 new movies instead!!

  • @seekoober Indeed, that guy is both funny and has alot! of points when it comes to the new movies. It really is well.. sad that Lucas lost so much of his strenght and ability to ask for help from more experienced people, maybe the new ones would've been diffrent if he'd just got up from his chair more.

At the least the old ones will have and everlasting impact on us<3 What you can understand from Mr. Plinkett is that he to must've loved these movies alot.

  • @seekoober I love Plinketts reviews

  • terri is cuter than carrie

  • @Isaiah6517 but Carrie is the better actress.

    imo she is gorgeous, though.

  • TheShockMaster is wrong. Lucas had so much help during production of the 1st 2 movies. Gary Kurtz fought with him on so many occasions and outside writers were brought in to rewrite the dialog. Hell, Irvin Kershner directed the ESB and Lucas threw a fit because he thought Kershner destroyed his vision of Star Wars. People walked of the set because of how Lucas treated them.

No, the prequels are what you get when Lucas is in control of every aspect of production. It's a shame really.

  • Was SW suppose to take place millions of years from now? Just asking.

  • @HarryPotter87 The beginning of each SW movie says "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away....". So it's actually in the past, just in a completely different galaxy.

  • Rumor has it that Luke was supposed to be a woman. That would mean that SW would've been a chick flick. LMAO

  • @HarryPotter87 wow, so a female lead in a sci-fi automatically turns it into a chick flick huh? grow up..

  • @HarryPotter87 er.... huh? Chick Flick?? Look up the term and you'll see what it really is. It's not a fantasy adventure film that takes place in outer space, on multiple worlds, spaceships, with laser blast wars and gun battles and huge battle stations in the shape of an entire moon *stops for breath*

  • Fox didn't think the merchandising would sell that well... hehe... how many action figures, toys, games, books, comics, etc are there? =P

  • @tazgrento Well, none of the studios would've thought about merchandising back in the early and mid 70s - it wasnt done. I mean, there werent even toys based on big movie hits back then.. I think the biggest licensed merchandise line was superman, and it had been around since the George Reeves television show, so it was more associated with comics than movies... but movies were also just gritty and realistic, whereas SW had all the props of a comic book - and so, for merchandising =)

  • I didn't realize that watching audition tapes would be fun and enjoyable. Guess I was wrong.

  • the last three movies are good but it's not as magical as the first three because they didn't have the struggles and the hardships during production. i think that makes the first three more amazing.

  • KURT RUSSEL In star wars =D

  • Everything was important in Star Wars from the characters to the plot, from art models to the early sketches. It surrounded our imagination, it penetrated us and not only did it change the world but it showed us .... anything.. is possible with a drop of imagination.

  • este es el documental del dvd "imperio de los sueños".

  • what the hell is that song from 4:23 - 4:48 when Lorne peterson is talking abot making the Deathstar. I know the music is a faster more subtle version of the original but i can't find the song! somebody please help me.

  • That music introduces farm boy Luke Skywalker when he first appears in Episode IV.

  • @tool4lyfe2 it's when Aunt Beru asks Luke for a translator that speaks Bocce.

  • John Dykstra? Didn't he make the orignal Battlestar Galatica

  • Its almost like lucas incorporated "The Studio" as "The Empire" know what i mean?

  • George is GEORGE LUCAS

  • hey guys what is that tune/song from 3:47 till 4:15 i would really appreciate it if someone can reply to this comment and tell me what it is thanks :D

  • The Force Theme, my friend.

  • literally 6 months to do the casting!! omg, is that just with George being nerdy and perfectionist or is it always like that?

  • Mark Hamill still looks pretty young. You wouldn't think he was in his 50s!

  • @Perranporth Same thing with Will Shatner Its almost shocking to see that he is acually 80 when he looks a lot younger

  • @ackbarfan5556

Oh, man, is 80 already?? It's hard to imagine that LOL

  • "but we can't turn back, fear is their greatest defense, i doubt if the actual security there is much greater than on aquiliar sollace, and what there is is most likely directed towards a large scale assault". hahahaha LMAO. great quote...

  • Sheesh...Lucas did so much of this from scratch and with little outside help. What an incredible drive to go through all that work. It's amazing to me that he even completed the first Star Wars film...stuff like this would have stressed the hell out of me and I would have quit two weeks in. We'd best be thankful that he pushed so hard to give us some of the greatest movies ever made.

  • Lol! That's why the guy is so rich!!!!

He could have spent his life stacking supermarket shelves but went after his dream :o)

  • @Panthera0nca but then the prequels came and the great film maker became a business man, not knowing that he was destroying his own creation. he fell to the dark side.

  • Yep, George is a real trooper, apparently he was feeling pains in his cheast while filming this and almost led him to a heart attack.

  • It surprises me that Lucas made it through making the first Star Wars movie, let alone the next five, and that the studio didn't shut the movie down.

But he followed his dream, and it payed off, part of life is taking risks

  • @TheShockMaster Were you not watching the documentary? Little outside help my eye. Lucas had so many incredible people working on this film; he alone is not why Star Wars turned out so great.

  • @Filligan Yes, but there's no doubting he was under a lot of stress.

  • @TheShockMaster Impossible to disagree with you, ShockMaster. And still, loads of people throw verbal shit in Uncle George's face... it's a damn disgrace, they have no respect.

  • @TheShockMaster i agree and not to be inmature but thats what she said

  • @TheShockMaster lol lucas did have a mild heart attack do to stress during the filming of the first movie.

  • noone can bet harrison ford at han solo, he IS han solo. same goes for luke, leia, luke and all the other characters

  • you said luke twice

  • you also spelled beat wrong

  • kurt rusell did the auditions better than solo :p

  • thank god for gorge being a nerd if he wasent maybe he wouldet have made star wars

  • Loved the actual cast but, Kurt Russel was actually pretty cool as Solo. Hamill was perfect though because he was so , musical theatre-ish:)

  • umm... did you watch this video "Darthlozer?" Russell "reads" the part of Solo. May the force be with you...

  • yeah i was thinking the same thing. Harrison was awesome, but I think Kurt would've done great as well.

  • It's funny to see the auditions for the roles. I couldn't imagine anyone but Mark Hamil playing Luke.

  • I'm the 1000th viewer! (I'm sorry, I truly am, but I just couldn't resist)
