@RatBowlz then he's just an idiot lol he milked the franchise until it was ruined. I think it was for money, but if you want to believe he was just stupid....go ahead
I know hind site is 20/20, but it amazes me that during the whole time Harrison Ford was delivering lines to potential Lukes and Leias, Lucas couldn't see him as the best candidate for Han Solo. Just that cynical edge to his voice would have been enough to convince me...
Mark Hammil may always be know as Luke (Or the Joker) But what a role to be know for, he plays the hero in one of the most popular movies of all time.
@DJeatsBAGELS Hey, I'm a huge Star Wars fan and a huge Harry Potter fan. Just because someone calls you a nerd doesn't necessarily mean they're a Harry Potter fan. I hate Jersey Shore, so that's that. Harry Potter, in it's own sense, is a cultural phenomenon just as Star Wars is. Harry Potter isn't bad or worthless, it spawned a whole new pop culture phenomena.
I don't think people realize or even appreciate the fact George Lucas symbolized the true American dream , he had control over his own creation - creatively and financially. Kids these days don't understand the concept of hard work and sacrifice in order to make your vision come true.
I hate it when kids say " I don't like Star Wars." I can't even tell them how Star War was made. I'm thankful my little brother likes the Original Trilogy and the Prequel Trilogy.
This 2004 documentary is called "Empire of Dreams: The Story of the 'Star Wars' Trilogy." It was produced by Kevin Burns and Edith Becker, and narrated by Robert Clotworthy. The 15-part playlist ID is PLBFFF374F493658D8. You can find it by searching my playlists, by LoudCitizen.
I commend Lucas for working under stress in the '70s and '80s, but the guy ran out of energy. Guys like Gary Kurtz helped to really solidify the first two movies. After that Lucas just hired a bunch of Yes Men to agree to any dull bullshit he felt like squirting out.
Watch Mr. Plinkett's reviews of the 3 new movies instead!!
@seekoober Indeed, that guy is both funny and has alot! of points when it comes to the new movies. It really is well.. sad that Lucas lost so much of his strenght and ability to ask for help from more experienced people, maybe the new ones would've been diffrent if he'd just got up from his chair more.
At the least the old ones will have and everlasting impact on us<3 What you can understand from Mr. Plinkett is that he to must've loved these movies alot.
TheShockMaster is wrong. Lucas had so much help during production of the 1st 2 movies. Gary Kurtz fought with him on so many occasions and outside writers were brought in to rewrite the dialog. Hell, Irvin Kershner directed the ESB and Lucas threw a fit because he thought Kershner destroyed his vision of Star Wars. People walked of the set because of how Lucas treated them.
No, the prequels are what you get when Lucas is in control of every aspect of production. It's a shame really.
@HarryPotter87 The beginning of each SW movie says "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away....". So it's actually in the past, just in a completely different galaxy.
@HarryPotter87 er.... huh? Chick Flick?? Look up the term and you'll see what it really is. It's not a fantasy adventure film that takes place in outer space, on multiple worlds, spaceships, with laser blast wars and gun battles and huge battle stations in the shape of an entire moon *stops for breath*
@tazgrento Well, none of the studios would've thought about merchandising back in the early and mid 70s - it wasnt done. I mean, there werent even toys based on big movie hits back then.. I think the biggest licensed merchandise line was superman, and it had been around since the George Reeves television show, so it was more associated with comics than movies... but movies were also just gritty and realistic, whereas SW had all the props of a comic book - and so, for merchandising =)
the last three movies are good but it's not as magical as the first three because they didn't have the struggles and the hardships during production. i think that makes the first three more amazing.
Everything was important in Star Wars from the characters to the plot, from art models to the early sketches. It surrounded our imagination, it penetrated us and not only did it change the world but it showed us .... anything.. is possible with a drop of imagination.
what the hell is that song from 4:23 - 4:48 when Lorne peterson is talking abot making the Deathstar. I know the music is a faster more subtle version of the original but i can't find the song! somebody please help me.
hey guys what is that tune/song from 3:47 till 4:15 i would really appreciate it if someone can reply to this comment and tell me what it is thanks :D
"but we can't turn back, fear is their greatest defense, i doubt if the actual security there is much greater than on aquiliar sollace, and what there is is most likely directed towards a large scale assault". hahahaha LMAO. great quote...
Sheesh...Lucas did so much of this from scratch and with little outside help. What an incredible drive to go through all that work. It's amazing to me that he even completed the first Star Wars film...stuff like this would have stressed the hell out of me and I would have quit two weeks in. We'd best be thankful that he pushed so hard to give us some of the greatest movies ever made.
@Panthera0nca but then the prequels came and the great film maker became a business man, not knowing that he was destroying his own creation. he fell to the dark side.
@TheShockMaster Were you not watching the documentary? Little outside help my eye. Lucas had so many incredible people working on this film; he alone is not why Star Wars turned out so great.
@TheShockMaster Impossible to disagree with you, ShockMaster. And still, loads of people throw verbal shit in Uncle George's face... it's a damn disgrace, they have no respect.
I can't believe as such a genius to begin with, Lucas ended up as such a greedy douchebag
