  • aare sharabi mera naam ho gaya...

  • Meena Kumari's own life had tragic similarity with the role of Chhoti Bahu played by her in this movie. An unhappy married life that led to alcoholism and ultimately cut short her life. She had enormous charm on her face with large expressive eyes and a mesmerising smile. A woman of unblemished beauty of her time. Although I consider Waheeda Rehman as the most beautiful actress ever to appear on the screen with most perfect feminine features.

  • The girl shown helping dress up Meena Kumari in this song can also be seen in film Pakeeza. Just before the song "Thadre rahiyo banke yaar..." she is washing paans beside the pool then gets up and hits her head with a pillar. She can also be seen in movie "Dil hi to hai " dancing with Nutan and Saroj Khan in the qawwali "nigahen milane ko ji chahta hai"

  • Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, former Prime Minister of Pakistan was a great admirer of this movie.

  • @orientlover1 - Late Mr. Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, one of the most respected names in Si Lanka too.

    May his soul Rest In Peace.

  • @Mahagedara2 and what do they think of his son-in-law now???

  • @orientlover1 - We Sri Lankans respect and honour all our friendly neighboring country leaders [present and past]. As you know, Indian and Pakistan are very special to all of us.

    Thank you.

  • geeta dutt and meena kumari alchohol was never ur friend.. neither were they ...

    rip legends.

  • could i get the translation into english pleaseee?

  • @Vina410 - Can some one help, please?

    Thank you.

    Yuan.

  • @Mahagedara2 The song's a bit old world and classy..a direct translation would not make sense. One has to understand the culture, ethos and the dialect..I can try, but the translation would probably not make much sense. Thanks for this song though its one of my all time favorites :)

  • @0musing - You are most welcome my dear friend.

  • @Vina410 I will try to give you themeaning wordwise so that you may understand the words as well. Piya (My love) Aiso (so) jiya(heart) mein(in) samay (enter) gayo re(gone) Ke(that) main(I) tan man ki(body and mind's) sudh budh(consiousness) gawan Baithy (is lost). My love has so occupied my heart that I have lost consiousness of my heart and body. Har (each) aahat(sound) par(upon) samajhi(thought) woh(he) ay gayo re(has come)jhat (quickly) ghoonghat(veil) mein(in) mukhra(face) chhupa baithy(hid)

  • @Vina410 More (mine) angana(courtyard) mein(in) jab(when) purbaiyya(eastern wind) chale(blows) more dware( my door) ki khul gayi(has opened) kiwariya(eachpart of the door). when the eastern wind blows in my courtyard and my door is thrown open . maine jana (I thought) ke aa gaye(has come) sawanriya(dark love) more(my) jhat(quickly) phoolan(garden) ki(of) bagiya(garden) main(in) ja baithy(went and sat). I think my love has come quickly go and sit in the garden of flowers.[Repeat first part]

  • @bxj55 you have misunderstood word sejiya as bagiya. It is phoolon ki sejiya and not phoolon ki bagiya. Sejiya is dimiutive of sej=bed especially for bride.

  • @Vina410 here is a line to line literal translation on this song:

    The love of my sweetheart has so possessed my heart that I have lost all sense of my body and soul;

    Upon every footfall, I think my sweetheart has come, I immediately hide my face behind the veil;

    When the east wind blows in my courtyard, it opened the door of my house. I thought it was my sweetheart who has come, I hurriedly went on the bed of roses;

    ( see the remaining part above due to shortage of characters)

  • @Vina410 ( the remaining part of translation)

    I have filled my hair parting line with sindoor ( red lead) and beautified myself for the sake of my sweetheart. For fear that no one may cast an evil eye on me, I have hastily put kajal in my eyes.

    ( Black soot mark on face is supposed to ward off evil effects: translator's note. Thisis not the best of translation but will help you understand somewhat the meanings of this song) Orientlover posting from Lahore.
