hunger is true fear, love can't feed you she is in love with the fisherman but he is also poor so i would go to a man who would feed me and my baby than starve to death.
Moral codes were even more strict in those days, so just imagine how difficult it would have been to go against them. When you are starving, with no one to come to your rescue, you do what any living creature does to survive. you steal, lie, even eat other human beings. After all they don't get government help in those days and most of them have seen family and friends starve to death.
freeradical1234. heaven forfend that you should ever find yourself in a similar situation, you would soon find your morals flying out of the window or you would starve.,
The American colonists had the same problems and didn't learn from those who had been managing very well there since time immemorial, typical European arrogance.
I just reliezed that Lt Clarke was doing his hand salute wrong! I should know even though Im not in the Navy yet. but he is sooooooo sexy! I feel really bad for him!
@SimonCowellfans1 I dont. He is sellfish, lustful, and extremeky tempermental. so he kept mary in his home.w/e. he physically abused her and elizabeth and owes them.
I just have trouble seeing the romantic side of the clarke/mary relationship.
I love marys character.although she uses that solder she done it to stop her kids from starving.she puts her children first and i think anyone would do it if they were in that situation.release she has the guts to stand her ground for her kids.
true.. but when she had sex with the prison guard for food, she cared for just herself..which was ignoring her morals. It would also encourage such behaviour among prison guards... Anyway.. I'm just being overtly analytical ;)
@ReiNohara if you or i were in her position and have been through what she's been through, I'm pretty sure we'd be selfish and use people as well. If anything I admire her perseverance and courage.
@ReiNohara Lol when you have been wretched from your family, starving for three years, witnessed the rape of all your friends in a horrific gang rape and then see everyone around you dying then come to us and tell me you wouldn't act the same to ensure your and your childrens survival. Don't be so naive sitting in your air conditioned house with a ready meal on your lap
@xRoastiex I don't know how many years ago I made my comment, and I'm sorry if it upsets you. But it was my opinion (I think I'm allowed to like or dislike a historical figure /character), and I think your judgment on me is harsh, just as assuming I live in a house with AC and a 'ready meal' on my lap. You do not know me as a person, you only know that I wasn't sure if I liked a character or not based on what I saw. So please, if my comment offended you so much, you can always report it.
I motice the elie aren't sttarving.

is it just me or there were children shown (dead)?
They look too old to be there. The most they could be is three, right??? They look like pre-teens and teens, how did the editors miss this?

@pokerface132 You do realise that children could be sentenced to transportation as well...?

that soldier guy has every right to get used, what they were doing was inhumane.

Some of Britain's forces salute palm up, but yes, in the U.S. Navy they salute palm down.

I'm not sure if I like Mary's character, she uses people :(

look at her situation, if she wanted herself and her kids to survive she needed to use people.

@ReiNohara its called survival
B4IRUTUARU16 2 years ago
Okay. I respect your opinion, but I believe that if we all think of our own needs disregarding others very little can be achieved in a grand scale.
ReiNohara 2 years ago
@ReiNohara yes and its called the selfish gene. theres a book explaining it.
when your very existance is under threat your primitive instincts kick in.
i agree with you :) we are all human, and together we can achieve greatness.
B4IRUTUARU16 2 years ago
@ReiNohara but look at her situation! As much as we hate to admit it, we would do the same things if it was neceassry our childrens survival

@ReiNohara I agree - but she was a survivor. I have to say if it was me in her position I probably would've done the same x x

@ReiNohara Imagine yourself in her shoes. Two children to look after, wouldn't you use people to protect them?
