Gundam Wing is always going to be my favourite series out of all gundam series. It was the first series that got me hooked on the franchise, it was the first international series that went to the western world, and it had 5 characters that viewed war differently and you can connect with them. Also each of their gundam had no same weapon. I meam seed, destiny, and 00 they all fuckin had a beam saber, shield and gun. Its nice to see a different variety of artillery.

@SpazzyMcGee1337 I imagine it's because the Japanese were introduced to the original Mobile Suit Gundam and Gundam Zeta first (not to mention all of the other Gundam spin-offs). There's a lot of Gundam out there and Gundam Wing is actually an alternate universe spin-off that bears little resemblance to the original series which the Japanese were both familiar with and fond of.

Also? They did not have this kickass intro to help hype them up ;)

To give some perspective, before Gundam Wing, almost every anime on TV was like the 4Kids edit of One Piece. Characters who were gay men were made into women. No one died, they were either revealed to be robots, or were "sent to another dimension". Everything was simplified and sanitized to be kid friendly.

So a lot of anime fans were jaded about the idea of anime on US TV. Then GW came, with its moral ambiguity, character deaths, and whatnot.

Suffice to say, we couldn't believe it.

Anyone else like me who was a full fledged part of anime fandom even -before- Gundam Wing hit TV? You know, watching stuff like Evangelion, Tenchi, VHS fansubs, etc, back in the 90s?

If you weren't in my generation of anime fans, I don't know if you could comprehend how huge a deal this was. The idea that Gundam would ever show up intact on American TV was unthinkable, and -every- anime forum on the net was talking about it. I was on a SAILOR MOON forum, and people were posting a GW thread.

She never rambled about her ideological family, only made allusions to Zechs and what they must have strived for.

I like how Gundam Wing and gundam series.. IE Japanese, dont believe in the BS TV today believe in.. If you're all the same age as me.. around 20-25 you'll remember that Gundam Wing Aired just before 9/11... this Series taught me about real world politics.. how the conflict of our world today was represented in the Gundam Series.. I agree that kids should learn about these "violence" and understand the struggles countries go through these days. That's whats happening in the real world..
