  • Nice! keep them coming. I'm just getting started... Check out my channel and let me know what you think. Make it a Great Day. ;)

  • Nice.

  • lol i've been using a pvc pipe this whole time xD i've been training with it for 2 years and never once had a real bo staff to use

  • @phrozenshadowflame Awesome! that's the whole idea of a staff, use what is at hand.

  • @phrozenshadowflame ehh its alsofun once ya get use to the weight ofaspud bar and do such things with it.

  • That is good for show, but it wouldn't be effective in a fight, due to the constant turning. Although if you modify it a bit more, I'm sure you will be able to put it into fighting form. Good Job, by the way.

  • i discovered that to, but it was a while ago maybe 2-3 years, good job :D

  • He makes it look very easy..lol

  • Good job. I discovered that technique on my own as well. How long have you been practicing Bo staff?

  • A few months I guess

It's a warm weather activity for me and between work and family, I don't always find time

    thanks for the comment

I should post some newer stuff soon, maybe some staff work in the snow :)

  • What's that bo made out of? I can do this with my bo, but not as easy due to its weight. I think mine was made for strength training.

  • This is my own home made heavy wooden bo. I made about six of them, some lighter and some heavier, this is one of the heavier ones, it's 6 foot 4 inches long, I also use it to hit and smash targets.

It is pretty dense pine, not real light pine, but heavier stuff, the grain is pretty tight.

  • eteune, you are doing well but you are chasing the bo too much. the Bo should be moving around you, not you moving to it. keep your feet planted more and use your core to rotate around.

the problem is when you try to get faste the way you are doing it you will lose control of the bo. also, that bo is way to large for you to learn with. you should try a 50 inch foam rubber bo until you can get the basics down. large bo's also aren't always better but they are heavier and slower.

  • I appreciate your comments but

    1. this was done over a year ago and was my first try at this move.

    2. 50 inch foam bo? really? I prefer a real bo of standard dimension, not a fake bo that is of no real use as a weapon, just my opinion. If you can't use a real bo, then you cannot really do the move.

A 76 inch bo for someone who is 72 inches tall is not too large.

But, I will work on it again and use my core to rotate, that makes sense to me.

    thanks again for the comments

  • personally, I think everyone is getting to used to skinny, short "comptetition" bos that are too easy to manipulate and look cool, but useless and not a real bo

  • @eteune I agree to a point. But when was the last time you found a nicely weighted stick of perfect height laying around when ur about to get into a fight? IMHO a broom stick, clothing rod, or metal pole of some kind are what you would be likely to find in a 'real' situation. Anything past that is idealized, in one way or another (unless you walk around with a 'real bo' staff?).

  • Dracklen,

I was responding to another person's comment about training, not what you would do in a real situation

and a broom handle or a metal pole is MUCH, MUCH heavier than current "competition" staffs (which was my comment)

I agree with you completely about using what you find lying around

In fact that is what I train with, not a perfect height/weight bo, but something I pick up cheaply, not a professional bo from a martial arts place!

see my vid on making your own bo staff for $5 ;)

  • wow your good:) is there a reason why you would use a heavy staff is it for power or is it easy to swing? good video.

  • thanks

I used this staff because it was $6 at Home Depot

Do a search for "make your own bo staff" and you will see my videos on how to do that.

I actually just bought an oak one for $20 at a martial arts store in Cleveland, but until then, I just made my own from home improvement stores.

  • it just keeps the spin motion going, it's a bit harder to keep it spinning smoothly in this way

  • You rock. Do you teach? Do you mind if I ask which state?

  • Well, thanks for the compliment, but I do not teach, I just try to share ideas here. I use this as exercise and to learn something new.

    I'm in Illinois.

  • *Whispers* Money.... lol I'm in NJ.

  • hehe, nah, I taught myself/learned all this stuff for free, so even if I was good enough to teach, I wouldn't charge anything

  • Your like Choson Ninja somewhat lol. You looked at ebooks/videos or just plain old books to learn?

  • Well, I studied a little bit of Kung Fu and Tai Chi while I lived in Asia a long time ago, but now I just study other people's tutorials on YouTube and try things out.

  • A thing about kung fu:

MOST americans think kung fu is fake or just a pile of crap and are getting too fat to see that it's good for you.

What I'm saying is that kung fu and Tai chi is a great martial art.

Btw, I'm italian, somewhat japanese and was born in america.

  • good comment i agree :)

  • these videos are great, thanks.:)

  • Good idea. I'll try that variation out the front tomorrow. If I clonk myself in the head it's YOUR fault! :)

  • haha! from what I've seen you've got better control than I do, but make sure you catch the 'clonk' on video and post it!

  • You definatly have a talent with the bo Ed!

  • Hey, thanks man. Well, I'm getting a start on it anyway. Got a loooong way to go.

  • Cracking good video!
