Shame there is no mention of the Amiga? With four channel stereo sound and 4096 colours in 1985 it made everything else at the time look stupid in comparison. I remember when they tried to relaunch the Atari 2600 in 1988 with a few new games and couldnt believe how dated it looked compared to the Amiga games at the time.

It introduced a real character and a story you actually cared about. That was the big deal.

We know Mario always saves the princess now, but that's forgivable as they're some of the best platforming games ever.
