  • Our Jack russell on the other hand is as good as gold can walk off the lead anywhere and shes gentle with everything (even cats). What am i doing rong?

  • Hi,ive gt a patterdale and he was 6 in november we also have a jack russell aswell whos the same age,was gonna ask for some help as ive always had trouble with the patterdale on walks because his constantly pulling (the dog goes like he could pull a Tank) and he will pull for miles i cant let him off because he trys to attack other peoples dogs. The thing is that his a good dog indoors (he knows sit,lay down, come, move, and when to go on alert when i make a certain sound)

  • That's interesting to know. Patter certainly has a strong pull already, though he's only little. I'm working on getting him to heel, and he does it indoors for a couple of yards, but outside - too many distractions at the moment. I guess it needs constant work and repetition. And liberal application of treats at the right moment.

  • Yeh ive noticed its also scents he will follow scents the whole walk,so i started walking him in the middle of back roads where no cars or grass was and he pulled a little less,id definatly say to get him nuetered because they become over dominant.

  • Oh also is yours a Nuttal breed?

  • I don't know what Nuttal is. Patter is half Patterdale (hence the name) and half JR.

  • Nuttall is named after the person who bred them to what they are today.

Brian Nuttall has more than 50 years of experience working and maintaining this breed. His grandfather was a gamekeeper and bred working terriers. Brian's own strain of terrier started with dogs from his grandfather, and later as with many of the great strains some of the legendary Breay Buck strain was introduced. Cyril Breay and Franck Buck have had some of the biggest impact on the modern Patterdale Terrier.

  • Ah, well I have no information on ancestry, and the breeder I got him from was deaf, so I didn't ask for too much information from him :)

  • Lol :D you plan on using him for any hunting?

  • SO super cute!! yay. precious little guy.

  • What an awesome dog (:

  • Yes, he is - I'm just concentrating on not spoiling him now while he's still llittle!

  • I love the name, and he's so adorable! I look forward to seeing more of him =]

Also, I'm going to second my appreciation of your floors, even if they aren't pee proof.

  • Thank you ff! No doubt he will be appearing on this channel again.

  • lol youre going to have your hands full w him

    btw, gorgeous floors!!

  • Thanks - the floorboards came from Wood Recycling, that's why it's all multicoloured - must be unique I think! Too bad there are little cracks for the pee to drain down.

  • So cute.. :P

  • Aw, what a nice little dog! I should do some videos of my kitties =)

  • Adorable.. :) I still miss Barney.. but when things have settled down a bit with my son, we hope to get another dog! It won't be another terrier though, much as I LOVE terriers.. This one is full of mischief, but then again, so are all puppies.. but they don't call terriers 'terrorists' for nothing!! If your dog goes missing you WON'T find it in my place.. 'whistles innocently'... :)

  • I didn't realise you'd lost Barney. Sorry about that. Terriers, yes, I'm mad, shoot me now - but I wanted exercise motivation and mental stimulation...

  • Barney is still about.. just no longer with us! He was turning very aggresive, and when he bit my father-in-law so badly it sent him to hospital we realised that we had to return B to the rescue.. it was NOT an easy decisison to make, and normally we wouldn't have, but would have tried other ways, so we could have kept him. But things aren't normal, and we could not, and can not, give the time to Barney that he needed.. but it broke my heart, Barney was 'my' dog after all..

  • That's sad. But you're right, they do need a lot of time. I'm at home most of the time, so I'm very lucky that way. The rescue people wouldn't let me have a terrier, which made me realise how very much work you have to put in. So we're starting as we mean to go on - puppy boot camp :)
