After reading your book I find no town of Ulster. There could have been an Ulster Academy since there are a lot businesses with the name Ulster. The lake off of rte 193 is Lake Chaubunagungamaug with Bates Cove at that end of the lake. The closest big city is Webster, MA. So I think you must have fictionalized the town and lake as Ulster. I checked this out with Google Earth.

In order to make a video, we would need to hire a lot of people to play all of the parts and we would need a great many settings to cover all of the scenes in my book which take place over the course of a year. Personally, I find it cruel to send a child off to boarding school at such a young age. It must be a horrible experience, even if that child is not exploited.

Thank you for your kind words, but you speak of 13 year old's as if they were little puppies or something. If you read my book you will find that I was eager to go off to boarding school. In fact I have many friends who also were excited at the prospect of getting away from home and living on their own. So from my perspective, there is nothing inherently cruel about boarding schools at all.
The book had to be fictionalized because after more than 30 years, it was impossible to go back and find all of the people involved to get consent forms from them. There are legal issues that have to be considered in the publishing of a book. And I'm not aware of that statistic you cite. Nevertheless, there are plenty of abducted children who never return.
There are currently about 5700 missing children according to the Center for Missing and Exploited Children. These cases go back over a decade.

That is why I suggested that you read the book before drawing conclusions about it. In my own story described in "Boarding School" I lament on several occasions why it is that the authorities never happened upon us even though the entire population of New England, seemingly, knew right where to find us whenever they wanted to engage in the debouching of young boys.

Clint- I'm going to buy this book, simply because it resonates with me. I am still a High-schooler, and as a freshman I went to a 'Therapeutic' boarding school, a scarring experience. I agree with you, and support your openness on the issue. I have witnessed too many physical and sexual mishaps at crooked boarding schools and it must be stopped. The school I went to was called Hidden Lake Academy, which I no longer attend. Truly a sickening place. These things DO happen to normal people.

I don't think it is possible to totally stop abusers getting into these schools even though I know stringent Police searches are done on all applicants wanting to work in Boarding Schools. If you want to take a look at my old School then check out: The Royal Alexandra and Albert School. The School is older than the USA (251 yrs old) and is situated in 250 acres of historic parkland. 99% speak good of the school so it couldn't have been that bad. English Boarding Schools in those days were very strict and you could expect to get the slipper or the cane if you did wrong. We had to wear uniform at all times which included wearing short trousers until the age of 14. Prep was done each evening in silence everyday except for Saturday. These days it is all very different. I am sorry to hear of your terrible experiences at Boarding School. When I was 12 (1962) I was packed off to Boarding School here in England. It was a mixed school taking students (420) from the ages of 7-18. Today the school is the largest State Boarding School in England and I can only say it gave me confidence that was lacking in me.. Well, to begin with I survived. At this school, older kids abused younger ones sexually in an organized way. I was one of the younger ones. This story also involves a South American drug cartel, scenes in Boston, Worcester, New York, Ft. Myers and Captiva Island, plus info on the early U.S. cocaine trade, law enforcement , murder, arson and a never before exposed New England child prostitution ring.

I have learned language through my ears and not my eyes. The only way I can read is on a CCTV with a huge zoom lens. But since it had no bearing on my story, I left that information out of this book.

People have shunned me my entire life because of my poor eye sight and employers won't hire me. Well, I'm sorry. I'm not sure we're going to be able to communicate. Nevertheless, I'll try to answer what I think you are asking me. This book is a fictionalized account of a year I spent at a boarding school. That's what my publishers want me to say, anyway.
No, that's not at all what I'm saying. How old are you? A non fiction story would require me to go find all of the people I wrote about and get releases from them. That would have been impossible. So to keep my publishers happy, I had to "fictionalize" my story in order to get it published. That means that this book is based on real events from my life.
They did a lot of somethings to me and in my book I tell exactly what they used and where they put it. But you see, so long as you are not under age (becaue this book is quite graphic), I am telling you that if you want to learn more, you'll have to buy my book.
Some who are victims themselves have found my book consoling and liberating. Others have found it disturbing. What it is, is honest. But if you want something tamer which deals with similar themes, you could read my book entitled THE CULVERT. That one I think is ok for age 13 and up.

After reading your book I find no town of Ulster. There could have been an Ulster Academy since there are a lot businesses with the name Ulster. The lake off of rte 193 is Lake Chaubunagungamaug with Bates Cove at that end of the lake. The closest big city is Webster, MA. So I think you must have fictionalized the town and lake as Ulster. I checked this out with Google Earth.

FICTIONALIZED means that I had to change the names and other identifying details because it was impossible to go back so many years for disclaimer forms and because my publisher was frightened over the prospect of being sued. What I am trying to demonstrate in this book is that it is possible for young people to quite innocently become trapped by others and pressed into the sex trade in order to raise money for others. In order to make a video, we would need to hire a lot of people to play all of the parts and we would need a great many settings to cover all of the scenes in my book which take place over the course of a year. Personally, I find it cruel to send a child off to boarding school at such a young age. It must be a horrible experience, even if that child is not exploited.

In fact I have many friends who also were excited at the prospect of getting away from home and living on their own. So from my perspective, there is nothing inherently cruel about boarding schools at all.

The book had to be fictionalized because after more than 30 years, it was impossible to go back and find all of the people involved to get consent forms from them. There are legal issues that have to be considered in the publishing of a book. And I'm not aware of that statistic you cite. Nevertheless, there are plenty of abducted children who never return.

Clint- I'm going to buy this book, simply because it resonates with me. I am still a High-schooler, and as a freshman I went to a 'Therapeutic' boarding school, a scarring experience. I agree with you, and support your openness on the issue. I have witnessed too many physical and sexual mishaps at crooked boarding schools and it must be stopped. The school I went to was called Hidden Lake Academy, which I no longer attend. Truly a sickening place. These things DO happen to normal people.

I don't think it is possible to totally stop abusers getting into these schools even though I know stringent Police searches are done on all applicants wanting to work in Boarding Schools. If you want to take a look at my old School then check out: The Royal Alexandra and Albert School. The School is older than the USA (251 yrs old) and is situated in 250 acres of historic parkland. 99% speak good of the school so it couldn't have been that bad. I hope your book is a great success by the way.

Having said that I did hear of a Housemaster caught abusing the boys in his House, he was at the school when I was there but thankfully in another House.
English Boarding Schools in those days were very strict and you could expect to get the slipper or the cane if you did wrong. We had to wear uniform at all times which included wearing short trousers until the age of 14. Prep was done each evening in silence everyday except for Saturday. These days it is all very different. I am sorry to hear of your terrible experiences at Boarding School. When I was 12 (1962) I was packed off to Boarding School here in England. It was a mixed school taking students (420) from the ages of 7-18. Today the school is the largest State Boarding School in England and I can only say it gave me confidence that was lacking in me.. At no time did I ever encounter any evidence of sexual abuse to any student. ,,,,,,,,,

My... aren't you clever. What a smart and sassie thing to say. Yes I do have trouble spelling. The reason for that is because I am legally blind. I have learned language through my ears and not my eyes. The only way I can read is on a CCTV with a huge zoom lens. But since it had no bearing on my story, I left that information out of this book.

Another clever response. If you run spell check on pretty much any program, you get suggested words in letters which are too small for the visually impaired to see. You say lighten up. People have shunned me my entire life because of my poor eye sight and employers won't hire me. So perhaps you could educate yourself a bit more on the subject before you offer any further glib remarks.

i am from england york and have bin in bording school since i left for higher education last year, and fuck all has happend to me, they r the best type of school that helps 2 round produce good well rounded people !

Thank you for your comment. I'm not sure I understand your last phrase, but the evil of which I write has existed around the world for centuries. It is my hope that a clearer understanding of what it is like to live through such experiences will cause the public and our authorities to become more engaged in the fight against such abuses.

That's my point. Governament won't do much. It seems like this kind of people get cover up from higher positions. Just like catolic church was hidding for decades (if not longer) what it's priest were doing to many young boys around the world. Until it got on TV few years ago, but "buzz" around it faded away very rapidly.Was it coincidence? Think not. That's what i am trying to say.

Thats insane! there are some sick people out there, The number is like a punch in the face! what I dont understand is that there are people like yourself trying to do the right thing by bringing the problem out in the open so something can be done and there are all these other so called do-gooders that label you in a negitive manner and make things hard for you! in turn, all there doing is turning a blind eye to the problem.. i may be wroung but thats what i think!

You are right to be horrified. The more I dig into this subject, the more revolted I become. I have come to the conclusion tht in some instances authorities are complicit. Check out the Johnny Gosch links on my website and get a copy of my book and then let me know what you think of it after you've read it. In college you can spread the word.

i would but your book but im only 16... i dont think that i would have a problem reading it but if it is a graphic as you say, i may find it hard to get a copy. as soon as im old enough... i will read it!

If you are only 16, then I would prefer you to wait until you are older before you read my book. On the other hand, you could read my other book entitled THE CULVERT which deals with similar themes and is not really graphic at all.

If 800,000 is correct (each year) each year in 1 out of about 30 households a child is missing? There are about 70 mln minors in the USA and the most have at least one brother or sister. Hard to believe.

Well, I'm sorry. I'm not sure we're going to be able to communicate. Nevertheless, I'll try to answer what I think you are asking me. This book is a fictionalized account of a year I spent at a boarding school. That's what my publishers want me to say, anyway.

No, that's not at all what I'm saying. How old are you? A non fiction story would require me to go find all of the people I wrote about and get releases from them. That would have been impossible. So to keep my publishers happy, I had to "fictionalize" my story in order to get it published. That means that this book is based on real events from my life.

They did a lot of somethings to me and in my book I tell exactly what they used and where they put it. But you see, so long as you are not under age (becaue this book is quite graphic), I am telling you that if you want to learn more, you'll have to buy my book.

Some who are victims themselves have found my book consoling and liberating. Others have found it disturbing. What it is, is honest. But if you want something tamer which deals with similar themes, you could read my book entitled THE CULVERT. That one I think is ok for age 13 and up.

I see. Well now that I know how old you are, this will be my last response because I'd prefer not t carry on conversations with children. BOARDING SCHOOL is a muture book written for mature people. I do not suggest that this is a book for you until you are at least 18. Best of luck to you.

I havnt read the book..i just saw this vid...I live in Ireland,and there is one boarding school,i dont think it takes boarders anymore but now my friend goes to it...Very posh!!I might just buy your book:)
