I think most of your misunderstand the significance of this man. In terms of practical historical significance, Yue Fei has little to deliver. His role is perhaps more important to us later generations of Chinese.

For us, he is the quintessential symbol of patriotism, loyal, and honor. It is not accident that his words 还我河山 were the most popular slogans in the War of Resistance against the Japanese.

All Chinese should idolize this man.

2. Chinese is not my mother tongue. But I think he is refering to his emperor- a fatuous Song Dynasty Emperor.

3. He should have had led his armies back- overthrow the system and set up a new dynasty and then chase the Jurchen away.

1. to return (after destroying the jurchens etc) to the court of the emperor to report his success, or

2. to climb a tower and commune with heaven

i think 1 is more likely.

also, he didn't overthrow the system because he was loyal to the idiotic emperor to a fault.
