First of all Jennifer Lopez did a INCREDIBLE job in the movie acting as Selena, she was hired to do the part of Selena because she had quite comparison but this doesnt mean that Jennifer Lopez is trying to be Selena, she is an actress and that is her job. At my point of view she did an amazing job due to the fact that trying to act as Selena,her moves and fit into her outfits must be the most stressfull and hardest thing ever and she looked beautiful in them. Selena had her beauty and Jlo aswell

I give Jennifer Lopez major props because unlike the other actors in the film who had the real people to refer to, Jennifer Lopez had none of that. I don't know why people have to hate on Jennifer Lopez? She did a great job in the movie "Selena" and it not only propelled her into stardom, but it helped Selena's story be known by many more people. I just watched this movie 2nite! I love this movie and jlo does an amazing job playing selena. I got so teary eyed @ teh end when she died. She died on my bday march 31st....i was 8 yrs old when she died.

SalviiChicah, Did you know Constance Marie auditioned to play Selena?! She wound up getting the Marcella Quintanilla role, in which, she did a great job. I think Constance would have made a beautiful Selena, too.
I heard a rumor that Salma Hayek turned down the role to play Selena!! Hayek's reason was that it was too soon. Selena died in 1995; the bio film came out in 1997. Hayek would have been an awesome, beautiful Selena, too!

As far as height, movie magic could have made her appear taller. Famous male actors who are short in real life have been known to use elevated shoes or stand on a crate for filming.
I want to make it clear that Jennifer Lopez was awesome in the role.

the seamstress who did the outfits and was featured here, came on Christina and spilled the beans of how PADDING was used for JLopez since she wasnt as full as Selena..espec in one of the 1st scenes filmed..the white pant concert... the girl who played Suzette, Jackie G--needed no padding :)

@aznnikki808 exactly...the reason: GREGORY NAVA..he chose who who wanted to read for the parts, like when he called JL to audition after a nationwide casting call..the dad didnt want JL and had another girl but GN suggested JL for his personal reasons...thats why them girls were PISSED that they had a nationwide casting and the director practically gave this role to JL, who wasnt even a fan or knew who Sel was...but she knew it would help her career!

Selena had smaller eyes but a bigger mouth, Jennifer's face is more balanced that way. But they are both gorgeous Latin women, but Selena had a nicer smile, hands down! They're body types are very similar tho, both curvy and gorgeous and both with an amazing show stopping booty! JLo has bigger but and hips than Selena did, but still very similar.
