  • Black Gospel is full of meaning and honor, George just really gets beside himself plus he use to sing this song also

  • Great clip! I NEVER get tired of listening to it. These guys are awesome and Isaac Freeman just rocks it with that booming rich bass. His voice has a lot of presence and volume even without amplification. Great vid!

  • I've seen the Fairfield Four on a special with John Fogerty!!! Great stuff. Here is my little gospel song.

  • Awesome

  • Ha Lets ALL DIG A LITTLE DEEPER!!!!

  • Gracias

  • The Fairfield Four is one of the best classic Gospel groups of all time. This was a fabulous performance - I just can't get enough of Dickie Freeman, one of the best basses ever. Thanks for posting this.

  • I agree with hoover 4000. If anything this audience appreciates the Fairfield Four more than others because they are also all singer of 4-part harmony. There is genuine respect for the music being sung. Thanks for posting.

  • Genius

  • I'm not a "sit there and cry to a song" kind of person but this totattaly reduces me to the most happy tears i've ever shed. Truely immortal music.

  • Best group ever...yes, ever

  • Best line of the whole video, "MMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmMMMmmmmHHHHhhhhhhmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!"

  • Aré the best

  • wow! they sure are having a great time

  • muito 10 esse quarteto

  • Man! I just Love this Video, I watched this with my Family when I was young! so great, I cant get over how Low the Bass can sing!

  • fantastic!

  • I am not a practicing Christian, but I am a musician; therefore I know a good sound when I hear it. These guys rock, and it don't matter if you're Christian, Buddhist, Taoist, Muslim, Jewish, black, white or any other denomination/race you wish to acknowledge or mention, this SOUNDS GOOD. Enough said.

  • Younce was pointing to the tenor, Rev. Willie Richardson, when Richardson turned towards him. Younce was just letting Richardson know he was the MAN. That kind of tenor singing was hugely influential on the 1940s and 50s white gospel quartets. The members are Left to Right: Rev Willie Richardson, Robert Hamlett (I think), Wilson Waters, James Hill, and Isaac "Dickie" Freeman.

  • The Spirt was is the room that day!!!

  • THATS MY GRANDAD willi richardson LOVE HIM RIP TO U GRANDAD I LOVE U WITH ALL MY HEART ALWAYS PS THATS WHERE I GET MY VOCIE FROM I WANT TO BE JUST LIKE HIM

  • @NissaKissa1 my condolences to you and your family. i've loved/listened to the fairfield four for many years. I have their cd "Wreckin' da House'....and i truly love hearing these gentleman of gospel wreck "Dig a Little Deeper"....the live performance on that cd is untouchable. I sing baritone/bass and can't touch what I hear when these gentlemen sing......especially love the accapella harmony......this is what I call sangin'!!

  • @NissaKissa1 You were truly blessed to have him as your grandpa. Everytime I see a video of them I just want to hug him. Are any of the members in the group that performed in this video still living?

  • actually george was having a great time not by the bass, but by the tenor that had a really entertaining way of worshiping :)

  • Has someone the lyrics?

  • George is obviously reacting to the tenor. They are looking right at each other.

  • someone has the lyrics? I could`t understand some phrses..

  • now THAT is bass singing. I'm happy so say im a bass singer in my church, but I hurt my voice tryin to get THAT low. impressive, he puts me to same

  • I just don'y understand how 11 people could dislike this song and group! I think we need to pray for them.

  • The Bass singer's name is Isaac 'Dickie' Freeman if anyone wants to know. :)

  • "He points at him." "HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!"

  • The bass singer is nothing short of amazing!

  • It was an honor to be in the room when this historic video was made! Those guys were awesome! To sum it up in one word...WOW!

  • that is awesome!

  • @xjimmybxable I concur. Gaither says just the word black like he's mocking ebonics and the crowd looks like they're watching a minstrel show. If they truly loved this music they would have been moved spiritually rather than pointing fingers at the performers.

  • I dont belive in god...but, my friends, they are truelly a gift to us all, and they are amazing!

  • OMGOODNESS Isaac Feeman is RIDICULOUS!!!

  • I hate that they had too be called a black quartet group. If they were white they would not have been labled. Enjoy music without describing race or style.

  • @rickames - 'Black Gospel' is a genre name.

  • wonderful music. love from turkey! i like fairfield four...

  • OMG THAT BASS IS FANTASTIC

  • Were not gonna know they were Black? GREAT MUSIC!!!

  • There is only one universal language in all the world and that's music! You couldn't sing this anywhere and not grasp the attention of others or make them smile!

  • lol, everyone who was not clapping is a liar!

  • This group has been very much loved since the 1940's by all as they were featured on WLAC Radio, someimes each morning. My father, Willie Lewis, was a one-time member, and Rev. Sam McCrary's 4 daughters, The McCrary Sisters, now have a rendition of this song on their new CD, Our Journey. They are amazing as well and can be found here. Watching many of the singers around them here over the years, this is the kind of fun they have when they get together. Nobody was making fun.

  • Paarabéns muito lindo.

  • love it at 3:29 when the bass singer points at george younts like here a go do this LOVE IT

  • This is the Best Black Gospel still alive and singing. We miss the members that have gone on over Jordan, but this video is TOO MUCH. The devils backside gets sore every play.

  • I grin like a madman everytime i watch this

  • haha very funny

  • One of my all-time favorite videos. It automatically puts you in a good mood... no matter what. Can't help it. Priceless! Great post. Thanx

  • One of my all-time favorite videos. It automatically puts you in a ggod mood... no matter what.

  • the best black gospel groups ever

  • **fun of

  • I cant help but feel like this group is being made fun by some of the audience...

very very sad if i am correct....

because the performance is amazing, and the Fairfield Four are AMAZING!

  • @xjimmybxable no they were not being made fun of. everybody loved them

  • @xjimmybxable: You, Jimmy Babble X, are an example of what happens when young Millennials spend too much time twitter-texting and "hanging out" online, instead of mixing about in the flesh and blood world--where the ability to read and learn human motive and emotion can only come from engaging the full spectrum of humanity--You look a man in the eye, man to man. None was making fun of these men. They were caught up in an inspired human joy that trancends race. Could you not fully discern that?

  • @xjimmybxable I know it seems like they're laughing at him, but I can tell you as an A Capella singer that when you hear a sound like this it just brings out the joy and laughter in you, especially to see the old saints rock hard like this! I wish there was a "Love" button!!

  • @xjimmybxable that is the dumbest thing i have ever heard you must have never been to church and see someone get excited about the spirit......

  • @xjimmybxable They ran into that initial reaction frequently in their career. I say "initial", because that reaction usually lasted about as long as it took for them to sing the first stanza. I had the privilege of seeing them numerous times during this iteration of the group, & they were universally loved - once you'd heard them sing ;).

  • @xjimmybxable I don't think so at all. I think that people are just MESMERIZED by the groups "unusual" musical abilities and theirs is just a spontaneous reaction.

  • @xjimmybxable ~~GRACIOUS......NOBODY AND I MEAN NOBODY IS BEING MADE FUN OF OUT OF THE AUDIENCE.......THEY WERE REJOICING, SMILING, LAUGHING, SINGING AND LOVING FAIRFIELD FOUR.........GRACIOUS.........DON'T JUDGE

  • @xjimmybxable How can you say they are being made fun of? That crowd just acted like they are hearing good gospel for the first time!

  • @xjimmybxable

No I think they love it completely

  • @xjimmybxable no way they love it.. no way they get that type of standing ovation ... these are people who love God and love gospel music

  • if i can just say one word about this group it'd be WOW!!

  • I love this so much

  • legit.

  • whats the name of the man on the far left

  • @gitrdunseith

    Rev. Willie Richardson

  • Absolutely fantastic finish! The modulation into the last chord is absolutely genius!

  • @jckssvp you have missed the entirely missed the point.

  • thatz my friends grandaddy the one at 2:20

  • You know, you always here those deep voices of the world and you think "oh they just messed with that" or "no one can go that deep, its impossible" but theres something about seeing and watching it that makes you go "Hey! Thats the real thing! WOW!"

  • Isaac Freeman is one of the BEST bass singers there has ever been!

  • Watch the Fairfield Four on John Fogerty's 110 in the shade

  • Love the Fairfield Four, been listening to them for years. Love the Gaithers for doing these "homecomings". The Gaithers have been singing and producing for decades. And everybody else you see in that clip is a gospel singer

  • Go to 1:44.... White people getting owned in 3...2...1...

  • @willdrumforfoodtn HAHAHAHA

  • 10 people forgot to turn their speakers on

  • ...and this my friend, is music.

  • what is this music style called? it s magic

  • This music can flip you Christian.

  • aman aman

  • I am impressed. I have never heard of this group but I just stumbeled on to them and I love them. Go Mr Baseman!!!

  • I wish they would come sing this at my church.

  • a real southern smile

  • Bill Gaither!!!!!!!!!!!:D:D

  • All the white folk clapping on 1 and 3! LOL!!

  • @mootbooxle bwhaahahha, right and i ain't never seen so many hair pieces in one place

  • Is it just me but is George not going nuts over the bass singer but over the tenor who keeps screaming those high notes? I've watched this video hundreds of times over the years, and I've always been confused by Bill's comments.

  • @Gilligan346 same here!

  • @Gilligan346

It's me as well, if that's any reassurance, Gilligan. Where George is sitting is closer to the teno than to the bass, and he points in his direction. The only thing that could make you think George is going crazy over the bass singer is that you can hear the bass singer throughout, even when the camera's not on him.

  • @Gilligan346 you're correct....I've watched it many times as well.

  • @Gilligan346 You're absolutely right. I've often thought the same thing.

  • @Gilligan346 I am also confused and agree, he goes mental over the tenor.

  • @Gilligan346 I know, right?

  • @Gilligan346 yeah plus i think George just loves the great group!!!

  • Thanks hoover. I've been looking for this.

  • I like what the guy does to Cynthia Clawson at 3:51

  • I love how he says "what".

  • @nailgun27 cool Hwhip.

  • can i get an AMEN?!

  • I love it when bass singers are in TUNE--i m sorry but i dont like modern christian CCM music as much---this stuff actually started the sound of 50s rock and roll type music---it sounds like black gospel groups from the 1930s--gospel music like this is ALL AMERICAN

  • I HEARD THE FAIRFIELD 5 WAY BACK WHEN THIS WAS A NEW VIDEO... I, TOO, WENT BONKERS WHEN I HEARD THEM... ESPECIALLY THIS BASS SINGER WHO IS IN THE GEORGE YOUNCE AND J. D. SUMNER CLASS... I LOVE THEM!

  • This is why I listen to gospel!

I grew up in a church that sings a-capella, and this is magnificent!

  • I love this group now!! Amazing the man that sang with the bass wow i went crazy with George Younce!!!!!!

  • One of my Absolute Favorites!!!

  • I read somewhere that the "Four" does not refer to the number in the group; rather the parts, tenor, alto, baritone and bass.

  • Isaac Freeman is the bass singer. One of the best gospel basses there has EVER been. Also, George Younce points to the lead, not the bass. Younce is another of the great gospel basses.

  • @actored1 actually george does point to the bass after isaac hits that low note @0:50.

  • Look at Geoge Younce Break Out into a Holy Ghost Fit!!!! Awesomeness!!!!

  • some of the best acappella music ive ever heard

  • just listening to this i can feel all the heart they put into it! fantastic!

  • love it....can listen/watch this over and over and over!!!

  • sounds like one of my family reunions

  • I keep watching this video just 2 see George's reaction. I have never seen him so happy in any toher clip or video i have ever seen of him.

  • Fantastic performance! Rollbel, .....lighten up. Everyone is clearly having a goood time here!! Refering to someone as black or white .....is not equivalant to a racial slur. Does it look like anyone in this video is upset or offended?....just the opposite I would say!

  • no one loves music more than a bunch of musicians...

and if you've never been to a southern black church on a hot summer Sunday morning, you ain't never seen how much worshippin' can be crammed into one building in your life!

  • this is incredible! i love it

  • Great group, but I thought the screaming was a little to showy....

  • I just luv 2 watch George in this video, he looks like he's in Heaven

  • Wow dat is some bass and base xD

  • Is Bill Gaither a bass singer?

  • The man leading sounds like my granddaddy. It makes my heart beat so fast when I hear it because it's his kind of music. RIP Daddy!!!!

  • I Like it!!

  • i love this so awesome ^__^

  • THATS CLASSIC!

  • HEYYYY!!!! man! lets have church!!!!!

  • Issac Freeman is the best gospel bass singer ever; second only to George Younce.

  • @actored1 I would say Issac is my favorite bc i like the style of the Fairfield 4's music, they are my favorite gospel group so of course i would say that. But if you are gonna say whos the best bass singer ever, im gonna have to go with JD Sumner

  • Thank you Jesus........Lets have some CHURCH! I feel like shoutin'!

  • 2:47-2:56. That's all I have to say about that! I love this group!

  • That gave me chills! WOW!

  • Doesn't MATTER who's in the Auditorium! Look at them ALL catch the SPIRIT! I LOVE THAT!

  • Bill Gaither is to be commended for being finding these guys and to put them on this viedo. What a tremendous blessing this video is.

  • this group has been singing for years, he didn't find them. They used to be the skylarks and have been singing all over the world. GOD Bless!!!

  • Us coroa boto a madera pra envergar...

  • Wow, love the bass. And a lovely song it is indeed. :) Thanks for posting.

  • wow im 15 and i love this kinda sangin!!!

  • I love this group. I have their cd; but, I don't have this song.

  • This is a group that everyone needs to hear in order to appreciate the quality of the black quartet. Thank GOD this is preserved forever! Thanks hoover4000 for loving God enough to share his gospel through the universal language of music.

  • They have a CD available. I have it and love it.

  • There was a guy at my church that could sing bass like that. He was like 6'5 and real skinny, but when he talked to you, it was like your soul was vibrating. His voice was just so deep and strong it was almost unreal. He could drown out the rest of the choir by himself when he wanted too. He sang with a couple of down south groups but nothing as famous as The Fairfield Four. He died of cancer around 10 years ago, to this day he is still the best bass i have heard sing live

  • Wow, i would have loved to hear someone like him. Thanks for sharing your experience

  • yea it was amazing. even today when ever i hear a bass singer i automatically think back to him in my mind in comparison. Isaac is as close as i have heard in a long time. Its a video of JD Sumner talking on here, his voice wasnt THAT deep when he spoke, but its something like that. is sounded like somebody had recorded somebody speaking and edited it to be bass heavy.

  • Bill Gaither doesn't realize that black gospel quintets are called quartets because there are four harmony parts plus the melody. We still love you, Bill. That bass singer is awesome, and so is the tenor. They're such a tight group.
