An over-rated artist all the way, and if I met him I wouldn't ask him anything. I met Gene Clark in '67, a genuine amiable guy and straight out. Crosby has bad vibes.

David. You are a witchcraft practicing son of a bitch! Your record company puts curses and spells all over your music. People, you don't believe me. You tube "John Todd".
@NightlightsFlame That's the exact thing he says that annoys me! Does David not understand that, even though there was a lot of bullshit musicians had to endure in the '60s/'70s, because of those certain things he's downplaying they made the best rock music EVER! Sure anyone can play producer nowadays, but who's got the EAR for it. Where are the Lou Adlers? The Terry Melchers? The Gary Ushers? The GEORGE MARTINS?
CSN were a fantastic band and CSNY were better! I do not understand how anyone could say that CSN without Y were not great! What I liked about CSN&Y, that has nothing to do with music, was "identity". After seeing bands they had been a part of continue with the group name and totally different identity (Byrds, Hollies) bothered them a lot. CSNY had to be 4 specific people! Any fan of CSN should read 'Long Time Gone' which is Crosby's autobiography for a lot of details.

@grandmachristine42 - Typical for people who focus so much on the "image" instead of the "message." David was a true artist because he knew musicians (and artists in general) are nothing more than messengers from land of disillusionment, hardship, and heartache. A song's success is not always measured by how much money it can make people. It's whether or not it remains relevant. This is what drives true artist to the brink of insanity and probably why David hit bottom so many times.

I see David's view on the "digital age" but it's pros and cons. The Byrds, or Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young were challenged. They had producers and engineers to steer them in a good direction if their own direction was too far fetched at times. They need to be highly respected for the role some of them played. Some classic rock wouldn't sound as good as it does if it weren't for them.
i guess loosing your hair is probably the worst that can happen in terms of looking old....and i don't think crosby cares how he looks....i am sure he knows that he looks like a scarecrow ....getting older is not a reason to stop caring about one's appearance
Man, what a wonderful spirit, still as humble, happy and brilliant as he was in the 60's. He may be older now, but he's still youthful at heart. Great man :)
he was right at the end of this vid......"and if its any damn good somebodys gonna notice".........hmmm...........sure have been a lot of people that have noticed davids music throughout the yrs ....maybe cause he's damn good? I personally think he is damn good :)
I disagree; considering that he is still alive at 68.5 (as of April 1, 2010) when so many of his musical peers died in their 20's, and that he is eloquent, I think he looks and sounds great.
Doesn't that sound like 'creative wisdom'? :-) Just before this I was watching Grace Slick's interview, and I wonder if we'll ever start sounding this philosophical... His composure as he speaks is marvelous.
He looks old because he is old and, at times, has had a hard life! Most of us are going to look like he does at that age.l think the long hair ages him all the more.I am his age and don't look like a spring chicken either. Youngsters, enjoy ur youth because it is a very fleeting thing!
@dbrinkm1 Oh, no, he looks ancient, but he's always looked older than his chronological age. Most people I know who are his age look at least a decade younger. He still sounds great though. I disagree about youth being fleeting. Given that the avg lifespan is only about 75, most people experience major aging only during the last decade or two of their lives.
@dbrinkm1 ok i'll do that. :) (I'm 13) I know him for touring with David gilmour back in '06 and I am so bummed that I missed their shows in Los Angeles. i love Gilmour so much.
@dbrinkm1 some people just don't age well......especially people who spent a lot of time sun bathing. I have a friend who would spend every spare minute lieing down in the sun or hanging out on the beach. We are both 58 years old.............he looks about 75 years old. I have only had about 10 sunburns in my life and I look about 40. Also helps to restrict the drug and alcohol intake
@inkey2 I know..I used to be a Pharmaceutical Rep. and called on Dermatologists in S, Calif. My father was a GP & Surgeon in San Diego. Remember well seeing many patients with skin diseases and Cancer related to Sun exposure. Any Dermatologist well tell you NOT to sunbathe....Gods speed...dana
@dbrinkm1 The concern for cancer I understand. The "i look beter than they do" - don't get it. Appearance is a facade. It's not what the person or the music or the message is about. Please listen to the message and the music and look at the heart of the human being.. Physical appearance simply DO NOT MATTER!
wow he looks old? etc., etc., what has happened to humanity, this guys a freakin musical genius. You should approach music as if you were blind, from a place of purity.
it's a whole other experience that way.
Long live music and especially Rock and Roll no matter who writes and performs it and no matter what they LOOK like.
Infamous is right... Too bad he did not mention how he'd have Essra Mohawk, who wrote CL's "Change of Heart," play her "I Have Been Here Before"which was the uncreditied inspiration to "Deja Vu."
@Byrds1967 I've seen an interview with the Croz where he says he would really like to play with McGuinn again, but that McGuinn is somewhat resentful getting back together again... :(
God has kept you around for a reason. Thanks for being an inspiration to so many. We can look at your life and know that for every sorrow there is a joy to come. Patience and wisdom are priceless!
Like any job, there is good and bad with the work and the surroundings. Crosby is an artist and a professional entertainer. It's not the best friend of raising a family, but other jobs have this down side, too. Huge fan of Crosby's music, and I consider his album "If I could only remember my name" to be a masterpiece and my personal favorite. He works with many different people and is simply worked brilliantly. We all have faults, and substance abuse is David's. Prayers and peace to you, David.
When I met him on a plane in 1973 and sat down to talk to him I told him I loved his solo album. He said "oh, so you were the one who bought my album" :) very self depracating. He was really sweet to me. I was all of 20 years old...
I would really expect Crosby to SOUND older than he does here. His appearance would lead you to believe that his voice would be gravely and gruff but he sounds like he's 25! I saw CSNY a few years ago; they all sounded exactly like they do on the old albums.
CSN&Y were trendsetters. You lived in 1968 you were in.
People who are still alive from that era still lament about those days because that particular brand of music spoke to a wide segment of society. Name one band that seems to bind society today? Most bands don't last on the charts. You don't hear Benny Goodman all day long do you? Let's give some credit to where it is due...CSN&Y will live on for a long time coming because they continue to teach our children well.
Amazing to me that he can speak as well as he does'. I read "Long Time Gone" a couple yrs ago and that dude did some serious free-basing for a LONG time. Grace Slick is a sharp cookie too. I have noticed how much more intelligent 60's musicians are then the Motley Crue, Guns Roses, Poison, Ratt, 80's types. At least the 60's people had substance, And Then did drugs.
Cowboysfan, I couldn't agree with you more. I think John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Jimmy Page, David Crosby, Greg Lake, Grace Slick, Ian Anderson and so many others from the 1960s all make 99% of the musicians over the past 25 years look like idiots with all surface and no substance. I wonder if good music will ever return. I have major doubts. When these folks are dead, it will be like Beethoven and Mozart and Bach going away. It was great, and now it's over and it sucks. End of story.
It's ended in someways, but music is for living emotions. I'm 32 years old and grew up with that amazing music. And it's gonna lead me till the end. My end and not its end. Peace, Paolo.
What a life this man has had. Was just listening to Laughing, from one of his solo albums in my car. Had to go to youtube when i got home and look David up.
He 's a good speaker, if he was running for president, I'd vote for him! At least he appears to be an honest person!( not to mention, a great musician)
Thanks for posting this! Great interview.. Croz has always been a passionate supporter of music on the 'net.. He was one of the first musicians I heard about to 'Log on' in the mid 90s..
wow, his voice is still amazing. that is ridiculous

I've always loved his music. Very talented guy. I'm glad that he was able to overcome his demons, at least to the point that he's still with us.

David Crosby is not only a great musician/songwriter but he is a survivor.
I have a ticket to see him again in August and i am truly looking ofrward to it.

Prayers and peace to you, David.
soflaw 2 years ago
yeah,thumbs up for substance abuse!

@soflaw
When I met him on a plane in 1973 and sat down to talk to him I told him I loved his solo album. He said "oh, so you were the one who bought my album" :) very self depracating. He was really sweet to me. I was all of 20 years old...
IAMSARARIVA 1 year ago
I would really expect Crosby to SOUND older than he does here. His appearance would lead you to believe that his voice would be gravely and gruff but he sounds like he's 25! I saw CSNY a few years ago; they all sounded exactly like they do on the old albums.
goldsmice 2 years ago
Great musician but not "a wonderful guy" as the host says. It's a matter of record that Crosby was an egomaniac and a complete asshole

Can somebody tell me what song he's playing in the background please? It's beautiful.
Only just getting into Crosby, Stills & Nash, but I'm loving it all so far.

It's called Carry Me, from a Crosby Nash album.

Any friend of Graham Nash's is a musical hero of mine... : ) Thank you!

Crosby is an overrated artist.
He is best at singing high harmony.
As a solo artist, his songwriting is mediocre. Every once in a while, he comes up with a good one
dfblond1 2 years ago
your taste is purely in your mouth. only an imbecile would critique a talent so brilliant as Crosby's

At least the 60's people had substance, And Then did drugs.
cowboysfan782008 3 years ago 3
Cowboysfan, I couldn't agree with you more. I think John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Jimmy Page, David Crosby, Greg Lake, Grace Slick, Ian Anderson and so many others from the 1960s all make 99% of the musicians over the past 25 years look like idiots with all surface and no substance. I wonder if good music will ever return. I have major doubts. When these folks are dead, it will be like Beethoven and Mozart and Bach going away. It was great, and now it's over and it sucks. End of story.
Ayinger 3 years ago
I totally agree.

It's ended in someways, but music is for living emotions. I'm 32 years old and grew up with that amazing music. And it's gonna lead me till the end. My end and not its end. Peace, Paolo.

David is a fantastic human being and a dear friend. I love the song he's playing, 'Carry Me'
...it's a beautiful tune influenced by the diminishing health of his mother. And he's playing it on a guitar I built for him. Good stuff.

And yes, his voice is still awesome!
