  • The sound of thet 59' LP gives me chills...

  • one of the best!!.

  • i read an interview with mike in a guitar magazine and he said,"dylan told me to stop playing all that b.b. king shit and come play rock n' roll on my album".

  • i studied his licks on the first paul butterfield album. and there were licks o' plenty, too. like roy buchanan's 'second album'. dylan and mike turned folk music into rock n' roll on dylan's albums from 65'. they went live with it at the newport folk festival, where it met with mixed results. contrary to popular belief, the folk purists who were 'booing' were doing so more because of the poor sound of their equipment as opposed to feeling that dylan had betrayed them.

  • Yeah!

  • Epic!#&***>>%%>}+++

  • goosebumps and little tears

    thanks bloomfield!

  • He is a guitar legend.

  • If you play music you need style. This guy truly has it!

    Nice shit.

  • First time I heard Mike B was on Dylan's Maggie's Farm, I said..."who the fuck is that playing lead?!"

  • Not quite sure how 6 people can dislike this. Not enough like Polka for ya?! Piss off!!

  • I need to start doing hard drugs so I can hit the peak of bloomfield and hendrix. Only the good die young so if you're still alive you obviously SUCK

  • He makes a lotta media created legends look tame.

    This is real.

  • he's brilliant, i felt the blues coming from him, but if i heard him without knowing who was playing, i wouldn't say, "oh, that's Bloomfield" i'd be inclined to say someone else. theres a bit of bb king and chuck berry in there.

  • Bloomfield and Hendrix were the top two axe men of their day! Arguably, they still are! And to the mental defect below, with his wormfood remark, you will understand better when you hit puberty!

  • He was so amazing, I knew him back in the day (I was a neighbor of his), GREAT blues player. Such a loss

  • hey worms, come and enjoy ! heheheheh! worm food heheheeee

  • @sylicone221 Tehehehehe! Ur a twittering little bitch. Grow a dick and grow up

  • does anyone have tabs for this?

  • Peter Green, PAUL KOSSOFF, enough said

  • Bob Dylan called Mike Bloomfield the best of guitarist he has ever heard. I'm guessing that includes better than Hendrix.

  • "Mike was the first to introduce me to heroin. He said you could kill you life without feeling anything. He said you could cut off your legs from the thigh down without feeling anything. He died a drug related death in 1981." -Linda McCartney

I may have messed that up a bit.

  • NICE....But,there's more to life than a bridge pickup....too tinny...sounds like a solid state amp too...love the keyboards....

  • @beeman47 you are entitled to your opinion but i suggest you get a hearing aid!

  • @delazzuro

    .....thats hilarious....and cute..... a Man Crush !

  • The sexiest guitar ever heard!

  • Ah, the 'ol Fillmore freak-tone....

  • IMPRESIONANTE.....SIN PALABRAS

  • Total feel good tune. Happy fingers dancing on the neck of that les paul. Wish I could get a vidio of some of this live.

  • This music is timeless, I enjoy it now as much as I did 40 years ago. It takes me somewhere amazing in my mind, like it did then.

  • i like this guitarist , but johnny winter is a shit

  • @Nicoguays Try listening to Mike Bloomfield`s Super Sessions, it`s the Good Stuff.......

  • AHEAD OF HIS TIME!

  • underappreciated guitarist

  • @Thralllinian right?? thats what i said

  • this is ON FIRE stuff.....music to do hard drugs by, jk,,,,,(kinda) no really.......you don't NEED any dope it's all here. Firebreathing TONE so delicious it's like a big fat cheeseburger from heaven when you're hungry as a wolf after a long winter. hits THE SPOT.

  • Mike had a great clear, rich tone, very clean playing....CLEAN, no filler, no 5000 note manic shreds, every note means something in regards to the harmonics & the mood of the piece. He doesn't thorw a bunch of crap on the road to get from point a to point b, everything matters for this guitarist & I'm glad to be inspired by him.

  • I agree dapoetmaster, except his playing with Dylan and later at Monterey was manic and shrill (probably due to youth and too much speed) By the late sixties he had mellowed and found his sound( probably due to experience and smack)

  • Donald (Buck) Dharma from BOC is another great player that knows the value of his notes & doesn't spend them foolishly...he's my personal favorite guitarist tho I never try to emulate that style, I have my own style...just appreciate his skills as I do Mike's.

  • @dapoetmaster yea no doubt,he had soul and didnt look to "show off" like a lot of metal guitar players.i like tasteful metal solos but i can do without "many notes" just to prove something(like they are as good as many many guitar players but not even close to the tasteful greats).

  • @dapoetmaster I agree ......Roy Buchanan, seems to have the same feel also....just sayin'.

  • @maak657 yeah, that magical phrasing where every note says something, and there's not just a million repeated fiffs in different keys; like say, s.r. vaughan.

  • @1skullduggery you must be crazy. You cannot judge SRV.

  • this is fucking tasty.

  • aye rekon sum ppl shud say wut dey fink and ova peeple shud speek der minds but lyk a dno lol ova ppl shud just fink for themselves insted ov getin uva peple 2 fink for dem cus its lyk wot so i dnt av a brain so wut y dnt u shut up n di bitch

  • I have never found this anywhere but on my vinyl of it! too bad the sound quality sucks. I need to get super session on CD or something portable

  • Amazing

  • see that! now instead of Skippy you are (freethinker) lol! I only make nicknames up for people that interest me by the way!

So whats the skinny? whos to blame Mr free thinker?

  • don't be a square! DIG

You come to a video and start cappen on fans of Bloomfield and Beck and you get our opinions...you asked for it! Skippy

  • cool... mostly sound carpet only done by 4 instrument, invitiv to let you drop into it, not like today´s distinguish separated artificial sound with try to needle you of every aspect your soul...in picture speaking ;-)

  • He played clean...

Today's guitarist rely too much on effect pedals.

  • hahahah just sad — the comment about scales...

  • The only thing sad is that you bunch of dicks idolize some moron who had limited ability. Be your own inspiration; nevermind these bullshit guitar players, they all suck! The worst of which was Jeff Beck; complete turd on ice.

  • tothatextent!

You must be a blast at parties lol

geesh Jeff Beck sucks? wtf.. be your own inspiration huh? look Skippy its fine to give credit where it is due..And to say nice things about people you admire! Try it sometime..It may turn you into a human being lol!

  • one more thing fella!

    your shoes untied.

  • One thing to you: kiss my ass!

  • Well get me a ladder and maybe I can reach it, ya high and mighty jackass lol

  • You are just a Lemming. You can not think on your own. You follow the crowd like a sheep. Learn to think with your head and not your ass. And for that you do not need a ladder.

  • lol a lemming! OK buddy your a bit out there...You do know the appreciation of music is in the listeners ear right? I know us guitarists are opinionated but lol come on guy you are a tyrant. I suppose If everyone doesn't think for themselves and come up with your opinion they are a lemming huh? Give it a rest Skippy. Go to Starbucks, talk to the little kiddies tell them what to believe, Us adults prefer making up our own minds about who is great and who is not, My opinion is you are not great.

  • Who is Skippy? And what is this about kids at Starbucks, where did get that from?

  • Are you the fella who says Jeff Beck sucks? If so..Then you are Skippy and the only people who would fall for your be your own inspiration and stop following the crowd horseshit., are purple haired tattooed teenagers who want to be individuals at Starbucks. Understand now? Remember! you are unique just like everyone else dude. you got an opinion just like everyone else's. we all think for ourselves, just like you SKIPPY. We just don't come up with the same conclusions.

  • No, not everyone is entitled to an opinion. A 'God Given' right to an opinion is what got the economy and political structure in trouble that we are seeing today. People like to talk about shit they know nothing about, which is just wrong. People get suckered by 'big names' and can't critically analyze things for themselves. You got suckered.

  • wow bring politics to a music page...wow just wow! so what are you a commie or a capitalist...a Dem or a Rep...an independent or a libertarian? do you blame the Reps for the problem or the Dem's..the socialist or the capitalists?

    who is to blame?

now you peeked my interest who is so worried about the politics of this country to bring them to a Bloomfield video? telling folks they cant think for themselves!

whats you deal I'm listening...freethinker man

  • aint none of em lol

  • so lets say we take the pentatonic minor away from the blues, what do we have left? not much ..... its incredible how stupid ignorent people like you are free to speak your rather simpel mind without having to pay the rest of the world a fee for stupidity. He is a bluesman, the blues IS pentatonic minor (and some major mixed in if your any good) so simpelton its actually rather logic that he doesnt use metal scales in this song now isn't it?

  • Dear Douche-Face. First of all the Penatonic Minor is not Blues; the Blues Scale is Blues - hence the name. Secondly, you should learn to use your mouth when you talk; it kinda smells when you talk from your ass as you have been known to do.

  • you fucking idiot the blues scale is the pentatonic minor with only 1 added blue not. But Im sure you knew that already. and im sorry? did I offend you?

well I guess its because your just such a fucking cock smoker :D

  • First of all we have a communication problem. You need a spelling lesson. I have listed some words for you to practice:

    Ignorent is actually spelled: ignorant

    Simpel is actually spelled: simple

    Simpelton is actually spelled simpleton

It is kind of laughable when you are insulting someone's intelligence and you can not spell the insults that you are projecting. Anyways, you still stink and have no idea of what you speak of.

  • you obviously understood what he said though if you were able to correct him. Its youtube not high school english..........fucking deadbeats

  • what a tuss! thats like saying if you took his guitar off him he would have nothin left, stick your scales book up your ass

  • What are you doing writing things on YouTube? I guess someone must have left the gate a the retard home unlocked.

  • cos theres no way there could ever be internet access in a retard home. How long did it take you to come up with that? its shit, just like your original comment.

  • So sad...so very sad and pathetic. I guess Lightnin' Hopkins should have study music theory?

  • Lighnin't Hopkins was shitting as well. I would not suggest that asshole get a book on scales though. As he probably couldn't read.

  • is there any place on the web or in books it's possible to find the chords and notes for this song, i cant find it..

  • Listen and play it, best way really. Because you can keep you can always hear how your lick/phrase/run sounds compared to someone like Bloomfield.

    Therefore...

You get better as you strive to play the guitar with some finesse instead of just getting the notes right.

  • mike bloomfield was the best and most fluid blues guitar player

  • there are guitar virtuosos who have the technical skills. Then there's Mike Bloomfield with so much soul and uncanny artistry. Thank my lucky stars I heard him live with Butterfield.

  • Technical skills, yada, yada ... what's the point in the Dimeolas, Malmsteems playing these patterns so fast ... the sameness of the notes .. in the end, it's a great technical show, but it doesn't say anything. Contrast that with Bloomfield, who just bleeds the human condition ... RIP Bloomer from a fellow ChicagoGuy. The world of musciality lost when you left us Bloomer.

  • Can't agree with you completely but you are definitely correct on Bloomfield bleeding the human condition. But there is alot of atonal soulessness that goes with today's music. Much is the shame.

  • Couldn't agree more Theeontheoffwing.

Why i have much love for both Bloomfield and Peter Green.

  • Al Kooper jammin' the Hammond....

  • If you see this album...STEAL IT!

  • He gives me chills.

When he moved to SF I got to see him play regular shows & jams big places

& smal clubs he was amazing.every time.

So much talent & heart & soul.

    He was a virtuoso.

With reespect to the great Brtt blues guys they had to get a record to hear the music that Mike from Chi-Town lived.

He was the real deal & who else was Dylan going to get to go electric with & change R&R & Musical Worlds with on lead guitar but Mike Bloomfield in 1965.

  • I remember my Dad playing the Super Session LP for me back as a little guy in the late 70s... I still love this album, RIP Mike.

  • grat song

  • Eric who?

  • Sampled by Diamond D on Stunts blunts & hip hop

  • Check One, Two No one to run to...

  • I'm so glad that people still remember Mike Bloomfield I saw him in SF live in the 60's. Really a shame he's dead.

  • @emeraldsstar87 He ain't dead, bro, he's just playin' in another venue.

  • i love mike bloomfield i think about him all the time about how he could bring the rolling thunder affect to the guitars.. a true musical genius..

  • @rotolo i believe you meant to say "effect"

  • Well said. TVS!

  • Michael OD'd 27 years ago. What if he had lived?

  • He would of made Jesus weep

  • wow, gotta download some of his albums right away! Thank you for posting this, you fished me.

  • This ROCKS!!

  • It's so bloody good. Gets me groovin every single fuckin time

  • wow .......sublime!!!!!!

  • Wow!!! Awesome power from Mike...

My favourite tune by Mr. Bloomfield is 'Maudie' from the album Living in The Fast Lane which includes incredible vocals by Frank Biner, Mark Naftalin with a brilliant Piano solo, Mike himself chips in with a groovy Organ solo.

    Check it out!

Would love for someone to post 'Maudie' onto Youtube!!!

WARNING if you are going to buy the album:

There are two versions of 'Living in The Fast Lane' and one version does not have 'Maudie' on the album so check first.

  • Let's lighten up and listen to Shuggie Otis

    play Bootie Cooler on Youtube.

  • Fantastic tone and attitude.Always Michael had this recognizable phrazing.

You can't copy that...thats in the blood.

Thats why he was one of the best.

    He was himself.

  • Divine!

  • He knows the guitar, the guitar knows him, the guitar looks him in the eye, he look at the guitars headstock, and Mike says "lets do this".

  • It's sooo undescribable to listen to Bloomfields guitar playing, just discovered this album on an online shop. I will buy it.

  • The sound of P.A.F's as only Bloomfield can make.

  • Bloomfield had the best tone of any blues/rock guitarist. We all know about his prowess as a lead player, but just listen to those chords from 3:37 to the end. Does it get any better than that?

  • this dude rocks

  • You left us too soon Mike!

  • IS IT JUST ME OR DOES THIS ROCK LIKE A MO FO SISTER F'ER? just me then.good

  • This song is godly.

    GODLY!

  • man, he just makes the guitar wail

  • The chord progression is incredible. Especially at :26.

  • NOBODY plays guitar like this... the feel, the taste, the creativity of the passages, the lurking power behind the next riff. 'nuff said.... NOBODY!

  • "the lurking power behind the next riff" Lovely way to describe it.

I'd say the only chap that fits into this category would be Peter Green.

  • good stuff

  • Totally AWESOME! James Gang & Jimi Hendrix versions rock out too, but this is sooo phunky:) !

  • I'm very into this song right now, the guitar is great and overall it's an awesome jam! I've been listening to it everyday for a month.

Anyway, would you guys recommend me some more jams that are as good or even better than this? Maybe more work from Mike Bloomfield? I really like the Blues jams but I can't make a collection.

  • you can buy the album "super session" by Bloomfield,al kooper and steven stills.

  • get the super session though bloomfield only plays on half of it, my labors is a great cd with some extended jams, bloomfield best playing is probably on the butterfield albums though.

  • check out east-west... by the paul butterfield blues band. bloomfield is in it it is awsome

  • type in "Hendrix blues jam" your bound to find som sick stuff...

  • nothin better than the first Butterfield Blues Band Album. It has nothing to do with jams but, damn, the best Bloomfield I've ever heard. If you dig extended jams try Allman Brothers Band's Live at Fillmore East

  • Mike Bloomfield is a legend, his work on Highway 61 revisited is awesome too. Thanks for posting this!

  • THE SOUND OF THIS LES PAUL IS UNIQUE.

  • listen to this all the time....

  • Ah.......shades of Chi-town a looooooong time ago:)

  • Yo, thats interesting ijd12, i didnt know that but i am sure its true, so, thanks for laying out to the dumbasses who know nothing but what there told.

  • They were the Paul Butterfield Blues band and Mike was playing in Chicago long before Clapton or Hendrix ever thought about pulling off those lix. Learn your history bunch of fucking idiots

  • I'm sorry, did you say boring? I couldn't understand you since you had a mouthful of dick.

  • I'm glad that you think so. I'll let you slide since you like Jimi Hendrix and you hate The Jonas Brothers like I do.

Of course that's a slide not involving any KY jelly. I am a hetero.

  • I saved a whole day of sun and oxygen from a summer day in '68 . Been savin' it for something special.Wanna share ? Don't tell them other guys , cause I only got so much , you know ? 67 was so depressing... how many times are you gonna bomb Hanoi? I'll be at the green tonight. See you there
