  • Fail.

  • Huskerls your are just flat stupid just saying

  • This question is for anyone

I grew up in the country where we had a lot of room and many dogs. Anytime we got a puppy we always had a place to put them for the night that they could be with the other dogs. Well now I'm on my own living in the city with my girlfriend and I'm wondering where to put my puppy overnight until she's crate trained? Do I put her in the crate anyway? Set up the bathroom for her? Get her a doggy bed for the floor?

I won't have her for about 3 weeks. Just getting prepared

  • I tried crate training our little pug when we got her couple years ago and it just never worked. I personally hate crates. I know people leave their dogs inside a crate while they're at work or school and it's not a good idea for it to hold its pee and poop for a long time. Hell, even crating it at night it's not a good idea. You have to build trust with your dog without a crate.

  • So how long is okay to leave a puppy in a crate? I leave for school around 6:50 am and get back around 3:30pm. Is this too long to leave the puppy n there?

  • @brunette096 definitely. Your puppy should never be in a crate for more than a couple of hours. If it stays in the crate too long it will defecate in it and it will learn its okay to sleep in there own feces.

  • LOL "happy as a clam" can clams even be happy?

  • But where are you supposed to put the puppy like at night time then if it takes several days for it to go in?

  • In the words of Homer, "SQUEEKY, SQUEEKY !!!HEHE!"

  • I gotta say, crates...not really my thing.

  • Crate Training is good for high Stamina puppies (so when they are 3 months old they are not always hyper!

  • what if you have 2 puppies..should they be in separate crates or can you put them in the same crate if there is enough room?

  • If your short on time

    Make time!

Like honestly your instructions are clear bit not that clear!

  • @dianeejanee yea, and you said you need to keep them safe by putting your puppy in a crate....... but it can take a week? wtf am i supposed to do in the meantime? lock him in a closet? the way i see it, the dogs needs to go in the crate by the end of the night. the easy way or the hardway.

  • @duranate

in the meantime...you accept puddles, you keep things that can be chewed out of the way...ie you accept that this is a PUPPY and live with that fact! If you aren't prepared to accept that, then you should not be taking on a puppy, period.

  • Commercials seriously have crossed the line. -,-"

  • See I need help cuz I just got my puppy and she crys all night how do I fix that?

  • simple video, i like! great for a first time dog owner!

  • my puppy is only 8 weeks old. He doesnt wine when hes in the crate or when i leave him but still doesn't go in voluntarily so i have to put him in at night or when i need to get in the shower so he doesnt go the bathroom in the house and he just wines a little when he needs to go. i always repeat good boy until i close the door and he lays down. he seems fine but is this bad? I'm working on getting him to go in on his own of course but until then i do have to put him in by picking him up.

  • @omerplater you're doing it right, over time your puppy will learn to go into the crate on his own

  • @hellos123321 Thank you. he goes in on his own now and is learning everything so quick! hes my first puppy so i'm just trying my best to do things right. I see so many people who mistakenly mistreat or harm their dogs just due to the lack of their knowledge on how to train dogs and how they think.

  • mine is fine go in and me shut the door , but as soon as i go upstairs he begins to cry and smack himself agaisnt the crate and he wont stop... what should i do !?!?!?!

  • @Kikyo361 haha. laugh at him and post a video on youtube, thats what this website is for.

  • i need help! i have a 5 month old chi and made some bad decisions in housebreaking(potty pads) and i was wondering how i could use a crate to correct this so he goes outside, also he doesnt like the crate bcuz we used it when we first got him, we would put him in it when we left to go somewhere, how can i reintroduce the crate as a good thing??

  • how man times do u practice this before putting him in for the night?

  • thanks

  • i think so

  • @PointeDancerMaddie88 Will she continue doing that for the rest of her life? is there any way you can train her not to? I just got a puppy and am really struggling with that...

  • When I was training my dog, I had to go into the crate myself, then she followed.

  • @PointeDancerMaddie88 u got to teach him to like it

  • I didn't train my pup this way and she has negative view of it now how should I fix this?

  • we keep our golden lab puppy in one beacuse she will chw everything!!! but she doesnt like sleeping on the cold bottom and when we put a small blanket/towell to warm it up she chews it up!! any advice??

  • I thought crates were made of wood, not metal. I think they're just afraid to call it a cage

  • @blacklanternz there's many different types, yes it's a cage, so what? Honestly whatever works, puppies are HARD work

  • @izzie889 I know. I have a puppy and a kennel/crate/cage that I put him in when we go to sleep. I was just commenting on how it's a little weird that we don't just call them cages, maybe because that sounds mean or something. It is a lot of hard work but it's paying off.

  • she said don't let it wander around the house (as the dog is walking around sniffing) lol

  • Helpful void thanks

  • You said that a pet carrier works just as good... is this enough for a small puppy that wont get bigger than 10lbs? I dont want to buy both the crate and carrier. Thanks!

  • LADY UR FULL OF SHIT

  • @niggadiztheJETZ then what would u suggest?

  • hey i believe that Melanie is a really good trainer. She uses positive reinforcement.LOVE the video!!!

  • my new yorkie puppy cries and cries when she's in her wire crate i don't know what to do she wakes the house i know i need to show her tough love but it makes me sad any advice

  • Want more good info surf over to My Puppy Academy

  • Im in desperate need of help, i recently adopted a 9 week old English staffy

i bought him a tonne of toys and puppy pig ears, and i got him a big play pen, cause i have to leave him every now and then, but my problem is that whenever i put him in the play pen and leave him he cries and moans and parks and it scares me am i doing something wrong? i feel like im doing some kind of animal cruelty iv read all about puppies in play pens and i know i need to ignore it but do you have any tips?

  • @sxclatina4lif I have a tip and you might already know it... ignore the dog. The dog won't hate you for it. H'es just got to get used to being by himself or in my case he will end up growing into and adult and bark non stop while your out shopping and the neighbours while send compaints and letters to your suburb council.

  • @sxclatina4lif im not a dog expert, but i think your dog is not used of his environment. As tip i can give u to put the play pen next to your bed the first to weeks, and everthing he cries or barks u should thouch him (dont know the exact word in english) but rub your hand above his head. So he doesnt feel lonely, because at that moment he could feel like its a strange environment. After 1 or 2 week, u should put the play pen at the place you desire. Hope this will help you, goodluck BARK BARK:P

  • This is the worst video i have ever seen on youtube, go train cats or something !

  • Can anyone answer what I do with the puppy the rest of the time that we are building up her tolerence for the crate. I still have a life to live, sleep to get and a job to go to and I need to have our puppy comfortable in that crate right away. Does anyone have any suggestions?

  • @KVandendriessche get a gold fish

  • Crate training does not speed up the housebreaking process. Regardless of the training method, puppies do not develop full bladder control until they are about 6 months old. It is counterproductive to crate young puppies in the hope that they will "hold it" because they are physically incapable of doing so and will be forced to urinate in their crate after experiencing great discomfort while trying not to soil their bed.

  • My parents new puppy is out of control chewing everything in their house she can get a hold of. Will this stop it????????????????????????

  • I'm with katielynn5532: Crates/cages are a lazy owner's way of teaching a dog. The sooner they're outlawed, the better.

  • I am trying to crate train a puppy for the first time. I dont understand what you're supposed to do if it takes "several days" before you can leave the puppy in the crate with the door closed. Does he live outside? Does he live in a playpen? Right now Im getting him used to the idea that he can wait a while and I will take him outside myself.

  • Thanks for your videos!

  • what's the breed of this dog?

  • i crate trained my red heeler at 4 years old, in 4 days, he did awesome now he uses it as his security blanket, if hes scared he goes in there and lays down, takes naps in it, if im home he doesnt have to go in it, but he chooses to sometimes, i even was able to go outside to take some trash down, and when i came back upstairs he was laying in his crate with the door open, because he asociates me being out of the house with him being in his crate! hes so much more relaxed now.

  • thank you so much for this!

  • what type of breed is your dog? Looks like the perfect breed for me!

  • @MBH3Production corgi's are awesome

  • @MBH3Production its a Corgi :]

  • Would it be the same for a pet taxi cause I cant get a crate.

  • @lala9322

    It depends on SIZE

  • I have a new puppy and really love playing with him. I also teach my puppy using really nice method from my friend Charlie he is available @bit . ly/cgfERC

  • @randpropz thx i will try it

  • my puppy yaps when he is in a small place

  • @kelly2k20 : I have a new puppy and really love playing with him. I also teach my puppy using really nice method from my friend Charlie he is available @bit . ly/cgfERC

  • just shove the mut in there and shut the door lady lol

  • @twigs1nr Thats Not Funny.

  • @twigs1nr lol

  • Yeah...I might get da plastic airline crate for my chihuahua I might get!...& thankz for the tips! :P

  • some Dogs from shelter are go in crate...:(any tips???How to brake it ...

  • My Puppy is 7 weeks old when we had chosen at 4 weeks we took a blanket to the mothers owner and asked them to let her dog lie on the blanket now our puppy loves her crate so much that we have to close the door to keep her out, she whines to go in there and lie in the basket. the smell has probabley gone now, we have had her 3 days and she runs all round the house but knows where her crate is and just goes there to chillout

  • Hilarious!

  • what do i do if the dog starts whining when i leave it in there? i have class and so i wont be home all day long. i dont want my frenchy thinking that the crate is a sign of me leaving or him being all alone.

  • @perfecttargets Don't leave the dog in the crate until he starts whining. If he starts whining in the crate, that's a big setback. It's learning that the crate is a confinement device rather than a happy home. Don't let it happen. You should be able to tell if the dog likes being in the crate or not. If it doesn't, train some more before closing the door. The general principle is to reward wanted behavior, but passively prevent unwanted behavior rather than trying to correct it.

  • ...dont need a crate at home. For transportation it is ok.

  • are not* lol.

you know nothing about your dog btw, he ever tell you he doesnt like small places?... or even watch the video?

" good things happen inside his crate"

if your mother told you that every time you went into your room as a child you would get candy you would do it and like it.

  • You need to understand that dogs are pets and not kids. proper use of the crates is great for puppies

  • @XMonsterXRawwrX ur clearly ilogical. How is training your dog to not potty on the floor by putting him in a crate inhumane? Your dog would hate it because he is not trained. Crate training is the best thing for a dog. Not only does it teach him to hold his bladder, but teaches him control, protects him from getting into things he shouldnt/hurt himself..and when u travel hes already used to being in a crate.

    Wake up plz.

  • dogs - by nature- dig small holes that are cosey and private. some may call it a "den". a crate is just a recreation of this. youre dog would Love a crate if he/she learns out to use it. you probably spoil youre pet so it would be nearly impossible to train your pet to use one now. and puppies need a pack leader. if everyone is on the same level as youre dog, eventually youre dog will try to take the Place as leader, and run youre household.

  • It's a fruit cup

  • what dog is that? jack russel???

  • no its a corgi

  • The dog of queens! lol

  • my JRT goes into his crate when he bites or misbehaves its in our kitchen and he also sleeps in it withe the door open so he can run about in the Kitchen and all his toys are there to he wont sleep in his basket lolwe bought 1 for 35 pound and it was a waste of money =[

  • Never use your crate for bad behaviour. not a good plan.

  • I can get my pup to eat his food in the crate and drink his water in the crate, it's just when I leave him alone, he starts to cry and tries to claw and chew his way out of the crate. I'm worried because he might really mess up his own teeth.

  • I tried this method with my Yorkie pup and it worked like a charm!

  • ok I have a minature american eskimo/pekingske and he is about 3 mon Now I have been trying everything to get him to stop jumping on me or kids or anyone. He wont sit he just runs off. • my puppy is young she bites me and chews on my shoes.i put puppy pads in the crate and she uses the bathroom in there during the night.she uses the bathroom where ever she pleases.she is sweet when she sleeps.but she pees every second of the day.and is stuborn

  • ...i wish my dog woud be so stoic as urs hes just the teribles dog in the world i do anything for him and hes just like biting me and everyone ,my frieds my familie, tearing all the shoes and everithing that its new for him, jumping on tables and stuff like that he never calms down always doing wrong stuff i can punish him but he never learns....tring some other metods like training him with the positives but i dont works hes realy a dog from hell...

  • Barto is sooo cute. :]

  • I did similar techniques, but I used a different type of "crate". What do you do when after all this is done and the puppy is comfy in the thing, but when you leave she starts crying? And at night?

I have a 2 mo. old that stays in a huge 6ft.x4ft. 42" tall play pen thinger at night and while people are gone. (she's a pitt/lab mix, she'll fill up most of that space soon lol)

  • @AwesomerLyricsNStuff Just let her cry it out... She will get used to it in about a week or so

  • im gonna buy a corgi.this is gonna help a lot thanks!

  • I just bought a Corgi a couple months ago. Cutest puppies ever...they look like little bunnies!

  • wow that was a tips they got their how a cute dog she have

  • Can someone please help me.

I'm purchasing a 2 month old Pembroke Welsh Corgi from a breeder.

The problem is that i work 3-4 days a week from 10am-6pm (8 hours). Should i buy a really large crate? What is the best advice for a situation like this?

    Thanks.

  • i would say dont buy a crate that is to big because then the dog has more room and may be able to use it as a bathroom as well. get it just large enough for the dog to be able to stand up and turn around comfortably in, and so they can do this when they are older and a little bigger also. You may want to "section off" some of the crate if it is bigger than the puppy needs at the moment, you could even use cardboard to do this! Hope this helped, and good luck with the new puppy!

  • Crate the dog only at night during bedtime or when you leave but when there are family members at home you shld. let them out.

  • any time i let her out she always leaves "mess aroun" she is a 2 year old small Chihuahua. any tips?

  • every time you let it out of the crate bring it outside always using the keywords "potty" or "outside" a dogs bladder is as easily routine trainable as brushing your own teeth.

  • Comment removed

  • Very, very well done....this is also a great method for house breaking puppies as well.

  • Thanks for this.

  • i just got a 3month old puppy and im really trying to crate train her! but every time i put her in the crate she cries and tries to get out, i feel so bad so i let her out, i know thats bad but i cant help it :(

i got the crate like 2 days ago and the longest she's stayed in there is like 30mins, can anyone help me out and tell when and how long i should keep her in there? thanks!

  • Are you putting the crate in a "family oriented spot"? Maybe the room you hang out the most in? Leave the door to the crate open and make it fun and comfortable for her. Toys, blanket, a treat etc. If your putting her in the crate and leaving, she correlates the crate with being alone or temporarily abandoned. It has to be a "cozy fort" , that she can retreat to.

  • Also, "Crating duration guidelines" as per age of puppy, should be as follows:

    9-10 Weeks Approx. 30-60 minutes

    11-14 Weeks Approx. 1-3 hours

    15-16 Weeks Approx. 3-4 hours

    17 + Weeks Approx. 4+ (6 hours maximum)

  • ok thanks! that really helps! :)!

  • little puppy

  • my puppy when i put him in his crate? or cage? i put food and water and a toy a pad for him to use the bathroom and i leave him there after i come back for him he cries i open then cage? or crate? and he does not even get out he stays there with the door open thats how i train my puupy to like the cage and not cry ( he cries at night alot and i have to train him to like the crate? or cage? lol

  • i have that same crate

  • what size is that crate there??

  • she did not say seven days she said several days

  • alright the dogs name is bardo not LITTLE PUPPY cuz all you say is little puppy

  • She said several...

  • yea

  • it was "several days",even dogs have better hearing then you are,

  • she said several days to a week

  • she said several, not seven :P

  • she said several days asshole

  • My rott-pit mix pup hates her crate. What should I do? I haven't left her in there for long, but she whines and howls for the whole time. Greats tips but honestly who has time to take a whole week to wait on your pup to want to go in her crate?

  • puppies r like babies.

  • Someone with the word 'baby' in their name would say that. This is a puppy training video. You're saying people who love animals have no life. you're an idiot.

  • Try confining your puppy in one room, uisng babay gates or doors, or in an Xpen while you crate train.

If you want your dog to learn its a good, safe place to be, you have to take the time.

  • Great tip!

What I do with my Yorkie puppies is put them in one of the playpen with an open crate at one end, a bed inside and the rest of the area has pee-pee pads and their food/water. If they want to be comfy, they have no chose but to go into the crate. And if you're dealing with an older pup, do the same but leave the room. bare with the whining because they will stop eventually. When they stop take them out and do it again a few hours later. Do that over and over and it will work.

  • @katielynn5532 Albsolutly true. My family has just bought a puppy but my parents don't seem to find the time to play with it and so im left trying to do my exams while also trying to raise a puppy who isn't toilet trained.

  • hi can you look at my vidios becuse i have tained my dog to do some tricks i think you will like them x

  • Hi. Can a dog crate be placed outside? The crate is about the same size as my couch, it's BIG... should a puppy stay on the leash for the entire day? (not tied up somewhere but with the leash on and me holding it)...thnx in advance..

  • my jack still eat the sheets went his is in the crate how can I fix that oh smart one

  • can my puppy poop in the crate?

  • ye but ud have to clean it up depending on what you do

  • this vid is kinda helpful...

i'm getting a female puppy soon. i need name ideas for her. she is brown and white and medium sized. i am looking for names that start with "B". our ideas so far: Brandi, Bobbie, Blitz, Bliss, Bella. PLEASE HELP!!! thank you

  • Since it is spring season, you can Call her Bahar, it means spring in Persian language.

  • We already have a 5 yr old Boxer, and we're getting a new boxer pup in a few days. Will my new pup whine all day and scratch the crate to get out and play with our older dog? Should I seperate them while crate training the pup?

  • hi. you don't have to take my advice since i have never had boxers. but i would say that your pup will most likely scratch and whine especially if your other dog is not in a create (you probably get her/him already and know this). but i would say that you might wanna separate them when training the pup. that way she has less distractions and won't feel like she is being punished while the other is free

  • really liked this vid - thanks for sharing

  • this puppy is so cute

  • it's nice how in all ur vids ur prepared for all ur vids! GOOD JOB! and my puppy is crate trained lol

  • Thats a tight dog

  • anyone else finding teh sound quality of this video to be choppy?

  • i am

  • GSD = German Shepherd Dog

  • I have work with dogs for over 10 years and this is all wrong! The comments and some of the video... Crates are great but a dog should NEVER be in one for more then 5 to 6 hours at the most... I could go on but you people should call a trainer or talk to your vet.

  • jordanrivers1, i have to say you are wrong. i feed my GSD 2 times a day in her crate. when she gets ready to eat she sits by the dog food, then i go dump the food then call her to come eat. then about 30min later i will take her out to do her business. ive had her for a year and she will not go in a crate unless its the last resort

  • ok i've heard this term a lot "GSD" what does that mean?

  • Comment removed

  • that's the whole point of crate training... so they won't use the bathroom.

  • My puppy wasnt crate trained at his breeders house, but he loves to sleep in his crate without me having to train him to like it, is this odd? or is my dog just catching on quickly?

  • not odd at all. my 7 1/2 week boxer is sound asleep in hers right now. when i showed her her crate the first time, she didnt even hesitate to go in, immidiatly just went in and lied down and fell asleep. Dogs naturally love enclosed places to sleep. For example my pup will go sleep in between 2 stacks of pillows and poke her nose out just enough to breath. So im guessing the crate acts as the 2stacks as pillows for her.

  • thank you sooo much! I learned a lot from this video. Im going to start crate training again,I tried crate training before with my previous dogs and failed..Since i now know how to do this im starting now.

  • GO TEXAS :) thx for the help

  • Thanks =)

  • what do you do during the day when you can't watch him and he doesn't go in by himself? at the moment my puppy is being put inside at night and he's ok with it but I'm worried he will have bad feelings towards it later, as I have to place him in there sometimes during the day

  • my dad is letting me keep my new 6 weeks old puppy under one condition. he needs to be in a crate in a garage. i agree with crate training but i dont want it placed in the garage. i think he will get to lonely and cold. any sugestions where else i can place the crate?

  • maybe in your living room or kitchen would be good

  • in a quiet place so that your dog has somewhere to go when it needs a break from all the ruckus in the house. in a spare room or in your room where it's quiter.

  • Thanks

  • Is there a reason why these videos are only 2 minutes long?

  • I have a quick question. If I have two puppies around the same age, can I crate them together. They typically sleep together anyway outside of the crate. Seems like a natural thing to do but I wanted to ask some people who may have more experience trying this. I would typically on be crating them for about an hour at a time so I can get some work done while I am at home.

  • it depends on two things: one, if they get along and two, if they're small enough to fit in the same crate

  • we just got a puppy a couple months ago, and he used to hate his crate. Now every night he comes in his crate and naps on his own
