BEST ANSWER on this subject: I do not like to get in the habit of saying one style is better than others. In regards to karate as a sport-I believe tournament compeition, that while it has some benefits, it does create a mindset and habits that will not work for actual combat. I also agree that when you can not attck the joints, eyes, throat, fingers, groin, etc that a true martial artist would not be able to effectively use their style.
Does anyone know Master Wong's [Michael Wong] lineage? Who did he learn wing chun under? This doesn't seem to be the traditional mook jong form so i was curious.
Quiz: I always would like to know this answer: In a real fight to defending his life, who has the winner's advantage? A master of karate with full knowledge of kata's bunkai and makiwara experienced or a Wing Chun master trained in wooden dummy (mudjong).
Sifu Wongs demonstrations of the MJ sets are superb! If I would of known, I would not have purchased the Pan Nam version from Shu Peng! All well learning is always the goal.
I've trained in numerous martial arts all my life, including wing chun kung fu. Your postings are the best instruction videos on wing chun by far, on youtube. There's no 'bs' and I like the way you teach in an honest / straightforward way. A true sifu and I thank you for being so generous in teaching 'real' wing chun kung fu for free on youtube. You are a credit to the martial arts community IMHO sifu Wong.
im in the middle of your dummy form.. Thank you Wong Sifu for givin me an opportunity to learn from YouTube.. Everything is well explained and shown.. It's so clear to understand.. It feels like im your student:) lol.
yea yea we know yip man was the best but he is dead now and we need to learn it somehow. Master Wong knows wing chun and demostrates it, so we still can learn it.
I love training on these Wooden Dummies. Very good essential tool to practice form! There are people though like 58belvedere that think training on them are for sissies. Guy looks like he's on juice and acts like an e-thug threatening people who use the wooden dummy. Some people will never grow up and learn what Martial Arts are about.
@TheMartialArtsJedi When I say "self taught," I mean he learned WC without an instructor, likely through books, videos, and seminars. I got his Chum Kiu DVD, and I know he doesn't go very deep into theory, only into application and some energy drills. I know that his Wing Chun is not Yip Man version, but I'm curious to know where he picked up JKD, which IS from Yip Man Wing Chun? Where'd he learn? Students (i.e. paying customers) deserve to know his credentials.
@Takethisnamebitch Hi, I'm pretty sure he was taught by Austin Goh, or if not taught, his technique is almost identical, perhaps if he his self taught, this was his main source? But Michael Wong's Wing Chun is very efficient, and I think he concentrates mostly on the application just for these videos, which are aimed at people both skilled and new to Wing Chun, so he cuts out the jargon, if you will? =)

Master Wong is cool and all, but the more I watch his videos, the more I'm starting to think he's self taught. Maybe it's because I'm trained in the Yip Man system, but I've been taught that you're not supposed to "stick to the dummy." Also, you don't just slap up on the arms; you push up and forward. Slapping up does absolutely nothing. More and more, I'm starting to think Wong is not truly a "master." My apologies to those followers who are offended.
i made three wooden dummies last summer, okay quality. if you have tools and find a downed tree you could make one yourself with basic instructions from the internet.
Me and my big brother made a good wooden dummy out of a tree trunk and some round wood i found. It took about two hours to make, and it's just as good as the ones you can buy online, only diffrence with mine, it cost FUCKALL.
@AirsoftPractice A man at my dojang made two of them. It only took him a weekend i think. There reallly nice and simple to fix. Look up some kits or somthing and make your own. It might save you a lot of money. :D
