I consider only my guy friends as boyfriend material. If I tell you "You understand me," that means I'm relying on you. I'd rather have a boyfriend who can also be a friend when I need it, someone who knows me--not just a guy that I rely on for free dinner. Really, the only thing to worry about would be the "losing what we have" bit; but, if you're worth it and determined, the friend zone is a blessing, not a curse.

If the girl you like is a friend, the only way to get out of it is to start dating other girls and forget about your friend. This may give you a 50% chance with her due to her noticing other girls find you desirable. If nothing happens, then who cares and move on immediately.
