  • @SarahET85 it's like someone flipped a switch

  • What year is this?

  • It was 1985 I think.

  • they must be taken in haaand....!

  • The Smiths are one of those bands that was definitely meant to be! Everything they've made is so perfect!

    Long live the Smiths!

  • This crowd is incredibly amazing. The band ain't too bad either. :-)

  • Excellent live performance of this song.

  • Superb.

I love aw the wee noises morrissey makes :P

  • I love meat, but I love The Smiths too!!!!!rsrsrs

  • The guitar is freaking amazing

  • amazing! im downloading every single smiths video off youtube onto real player, every gig :D hopefully they are all on here! i wonder if there are any that aren't on youtube? :S

  • God, how'd I like to go back in time and experience this concert!

  • people shourd read the smiths at university this's really a great form of art(music)!!!!!

  • but not mister smith only. also misses patti smith!

  • Marr was barely 21 here? Insane. So insane.

  • @gillart im 21 going into 22 in a month. he achieved so much..FML

  • @gillart Andy Rourke and Mike Joyce were 21 too.

  • GREAT CONCERT, PROBABLY SMITHS BEST

  • Incredible: I must say it, as much as I dislike Morrissey's attitude about meat, Morrissey indeed produces some very good music.

  • Marr is a vegetarian also

  • Don't mind vegetarians; I dislike militant (anything)s.

  • I LOVE ANDY ROURKE!!!

  • I love this song!

  • andy rourke is a "machine"...

the ultimate groove machine....what a huge bass player....

  • ...and a heroin addict, i've read.

hence his brilliant and sometimes impossible bass...

    great, great song!

  • Incredible bass line!, ¿Who said that Smiths is only Morrissey/Marr?

  • I'm all about that dance at 2:04!

  • yes poor editing at 8.55... rather disappointing if you just watched the whole vid.. but great performance nevertheless

  • WTF, the video skipped over the bass solo part...fuck that.

  • never seen Moz with so much conviction!except for Meat is Murder......Fantastic perfomrance

  • lol that dance at the start is so random. very good live performance and the crowd is good as well...

  • Buff! Acabo de ver el vídeo de esta canción en su concierto en paris, y el final es tremendo con marr dejando su guitarrita y bailando al estilo morrissey!

Es justo el segund vídeo que aparece en la derecha

  • Johnnie Marr, what a god

  • 300.000 people in that concert in Madrid in 1985, for free. What a pain not to be there Those party days are gone. Sigh

  • 300.000 well actually that's impossible because it was in the palacio de deportes, that can hold 15,000 people, but great concert though

  • Indoor live concert? Sure that's the reason why you can see beginning the video, people in the trees (there must be the only place in the world where the trees grows indoor without light). Applause. Hahahhaha, awesome you little boy

  • the best band of ALL TIME maybe along with New Order/Joy Division

  • i love the smiths

    i love johnny marr

  • what a fucking dope ass song!

  • sounds as good or better than the recorded version.

  • "Barbarism Begins at Home",ain't that the truth!!!

  • Still cant get over how popular these were in spain

  • Pure quality, pura calidad

  • hahah its like morrissey is just having a seizure right when the song begins:-)

  • moz is the best

  • Morrissey speaks to my soul.

  • thats a lot of boys with brown hair...

  • best guitarist ever, bar none.

  • johnny marr makes a slight mistake at 2:21

at least it proves he is human!

  • at 2:23 ;) hehe

  • at 2:22

  • 2:22 i'd say lol

  • It's just an audio problem, Johnny is not human he is a GOD

  • U know,Morrisey seems like one of those high off life kinda guys,he could be origional and out there without the 80's amphetamines influence.(at least as far as I know)

  • does anyone know the set list for the madrid show?

  • William it was really nothing/Nowhere fast/I want the one I can't have/How soon is now/Handsome devil/ That joke isn't funny anymore/Shakespeare's sister/The headmaster ritual/ Rusholme ruffians/Hand in glove/Still ill/ Meat is murder/ Heaven knows I'm miserable now/Miserable lie/Barbarism begins at home/This charming man/You've got everything now

  • this is the most fun song to play on bass, ever.

  • yup... a lot of smiths songs are really cool to play on bass.. andys basslines were great

  • Totally agree!

  • ´great freaking guitar sound

  • great job!!!

  • chrispoirer-

who are you to judge i find him very attractive actually just because he wears glasses doesn't make him a nerd its not his fault thats pretty shallow and learn to spell his name right

  • I don't know what this guy said, but nothing could warrant a response like that. He can judge whatever the fuck he likes, just like you're judging him. Really only idiots say "who are you to judge". I call those wah comments. Are people with some official capacity only allowed to judge? NO.

He should learn to spell Morrissey, but in the meantime you should learn to structure your sentences.

  • excuse me?! but i think i know how to talk! i do know how to structure sentences and i know exactly what i'm saying so i don't think this is any of your business! And fine if you don't like that, well i'm only sticking up for my favourite artist, there's nothing wrong with that!!

  • Isnt there a subtle paradox to this whole malarky?

  • I don't know how much money I would have paid to be in this madrid free gig of the smiths. I have seen morrissey, but the only musical dream I still have is to see the Smiths.

  • their version of headmaster ritual was a joke and completely sucked.

  • their version of headmaster ritual was a joke and completely sucked.

  • Harsh. Be honest.

  • I would...

  • Boo Radiohead!!!!!

    Yay The Smiths!!!!

  • i dont know wether to give you the thumbs up or thumbs down. ive never read a comment that i could agree/disagree with so much. two great bands

  • I'm girl and I love Morrisey..I know tons of girls who like him and there were tons in the audience when I saw him live..so stow it.

  • omg....this is so hot...

  • What's Radiohead got to do with The Smiths?

    I like Radiohead though.

    Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah....The Smiths.

  • Barbarism Begins at Home: A 7 minute excuse for Morrissey to strip at the end.

  • I don't mind that haha

  • Me neither :D

  • This song is fantastic! Bass tone on this video sucks though......shame cause i can play this...

  • Who cares about Radiohead?

  • exactly

  • @Fattighjon i do. =D

  • @Fattighjon Wrong!

  • Yeah but radiohead is overrated garbage and mozzer is god

  • genius

  • Do they need the massive gap inbetween songs, what are they doing?

  • it was only the THIRD encore.

  • this was third of five encores.

  • Still, there was no gaps between the encore songs

  • being that this was a free concert festival, perhaps it was the officials telling them to keep performing if they wanted to. or maybe morrissey just likes to keep the crowd impatient.

  • The latter sounds more ostensible

  • Maybe nowadays all the 'technical' stuff is perfect, but then it wasn't?

  • You need to go to more concerts by more bands. While bands like Radiohead or Pearl Jam don't have gaps between songs or segues most of their songs together in a live setting, bands like The Smiths and Dave Matthews Band do have gaps. It's the artist's choice how long a break they should have or need between each live song.

  • I'd pass up 1000 radiohead concerts to see all four smiths perform 1 song.

  • You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.

  • brlbrllrlrlrlbllrlllblrlbrlbllblrlblblllrbllrrrbrlrlrllbrlrlllnoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!

  • marr's ending is brilliant indeed and rourke's bass is hypnotic. i love listening to this smiths song live above any others....

  • If you're calling him a nerd because he wears glasses, that's pretty shallow. Also, he was celibate, which could have played a role in it. Regardless, nowadays I think he has plenty of female fans, as he's become quite successful in America

  • Just to clarify the first point - you call him the 'biggest nerd ever' but provide no reasoning or backup for your claims. If you knew him personally and concluded this, ok. But that's probably not the case. And if you know him by his music you would see that he's more of a hopeless romantic type character, which I think are the more interesting partners for non-shallow girls. Alas, he's celibate (probably the main reason).

  • well im a girl and im absolutely infatuated with him he the most deepest sexiest most inspirational beaaaauftiul man EVAAA!

  • Untrue; he has plenty of talent (look at latest solo album), and a personality that is far more interesting than the cliched rock singer (think Oasis). Morrissey has legions of Latin American fans, and 'random yelping' does not equate to a lack of talent or personality. It's just his style; he pioneered the transformation of music into an art form as the expression of his thoughts. Watch his interviews. If by real talent you mean Marr -- look at Marr's band, the healers -- they've done poorly

  • By the way, the last point was meant to illustrate that Marr needs a strong lead singer or lyricist with a guiding plan in order to create good music (he's a great support). Morrissey was much more important than you think - I thought like you initially. But listen to the Smiths for a while and you really start to identify the band with Morrissey

  • (And I by no means denigrate the importance of Andy Rourke or Mike Joyce - its just that Marr is, I suppose, the most danceable-to element in the group). I mean, the ending of this song is amazing!!

  • wow, no girls in the audience

  • danielkills..your a cunt!

  • Why was the rhythm section non-existant in this song? And the best part was cut of at around 8:59.

  • YES! what happened to that part of the song? it was so great, and then..it got cut

  • I think Marr's intonation is off.

  • look at some of those moron spanish trying to slam dance, hahaha. stupid.

  • The only good thing about this song's instrumental track is Andy Rourke's funk bassline. The funk bassline isn't even allowed to hold its own place and the guitar is overpowering and out of tune.

  • after watching this i might as well sell my guitar... johnny marr is a genius

  • wtf his guitar out of tune? the whole night? haha give me a break, he tunned it that way, it sounds perfect to me.

  • To be called " Guitar God" is almost an insult to Marr.

In this song he is beyond that.

  • This Is The Most Erotic Things That My Eyes Have Ever Witnessed!

  • i think the guitar sounds wierd becuase the video qality

  • love the beginning beat (intro), ohhh it is sex lol great band

  • Dude what you talkin bout Marr is playing really god. He uses a effect that makes that out of tune effect, Moz looks more away than ever:p wonder what he has taken:P

  • the guitar is not out of tune Johnny is just hitting a few bum notes, remember at this point in the Smiths career he was on more that a bottle of vodka a night

  • that is soooooooooooooo out of tune....and yet lovely

  • i think the guitar being slightly out of tune gives it an added sense of quirkiness even. makes the song even better possibly!agreeing with sangette marr is a musical genius as moz is an absolute lyrical genius. making up a half of what i consider to be the most genius band i've ever come across! anything but boring amazing1

  • curious, but why the cut at the 8:54 mark?

  • this song isnt boring you fag, its well cool!

  • another boring smiths song. wish they had more great songs like heaven knows i'm miserable now and stop me if..

  • Moz is OK, but Marr doesn't play good, apart from the beginning and the end of the song; he's a bit out of tune

  • Yeah he's a bit out of tune, but i think it's okay, adds a bit of charm, people who are contantly tuning their instruments are so uncool. Marr is an awesome guitarist.

  • its called chorus, pedal he uses its purposefully done.

  • 6,337 views eh? It's nice to know that (hopefully) 95% of those people now love the smiths!

  • makes you want to be a contraversial, celibate pop-star

  • the way he takes off his shirt.... I could watch that all day and fantasize about grabbing him off the stage....

  • That was so cool!

  • fantastic - got to see them for $35 in DC on Q is dead tour and it was worth every penny.

  • Just wtf was put in the water of Manchester?

  • the concert in Madrid was wikkid! 5 stars thanks for this

  • yeah! LOVE the song! wish I could sing it as well as good old Morrisey though...

  • i care,well done jo

  • jo thinks it shit

  • who cares?

  • Jo's opinion is insignificant.

  • 'a crack on the head! is what JO gets for askinggg!!!'

  • Andy bass, Smiths, no words. luvamazing!

  • THE best Smiths song ever!!!

  • one of the best smith songs ever

  • This is awesome! Thank you for putting it up. Barbarism Begins At Home is one of my favourite Smith songs! The sound and visual quality is perfect, top marks!
