  • @Gvanillavodka King Edward II of England was born in Caernarfon Castle, N. Wales, UK in 1284 & he became the very first Prince of Wales. He became King on the death of his father King Edward I in 1307 but he was unpopular with the Establishment due to his homosexuality although he had married & fathered a son. Edward was cruelly murdered at Berkeley Castle on 21 September 1327 after five months' confinement in a vile, stinking, putrid dungeon, death due to the vile use of a red hot poker.

  • The Berkeley family were away from Berkeley Castle so they were unaware of what was going on with poor Edward II? For five months????? Yeah, right......RIP, dear Edward. You were a very brave man of England, but to marry the dreadful Isabella was one almighty mistake as it all turned out. I hope she is still in torment in the Fires of Hell all these centuries later.

  • I've read that during his trial, Mortimer was gagged to prevent him from speaking at all. Anybody know if that's true?

  • lol a red hot poker up the jacksie!!

  • I just looked in my family files and it turns out that I'm related to most of the Berkeley Family. King Edward II is my great x23 grandfather...OoLaLa!!!

  • @camirockshard shure you are lets see theproof

  • I cried about the knight and the little kid that has beaten up to death...May both of them and anyone else who lived such a tragedy rest in peace.May the eternal sun shine upon thee :(

  • Was Edward the 2nd proved to have died by murder or was it just conspiracy theory? I'm not certain. Even the plaque in the room say "traditionally" suggesting that the history is not certain.

  • this is the bird :-)))

  • its beautiful the castle. id loved to visit the place.

  • Verry nice Castle

  • lol @ the bird falling down the chimney stack

  • What a horrible way to die!

  • It goes like this......everything that has and will happened is stored within the very aether of time and space. With a ley line in place it strengthens the reply or the energy that once happened. Berkeley Castle is beautiful indeed. I ntoice the wooden rails around the pit are new. They weren't there a few years ago.

  • castles are not the only thing to be haunted. I know.. I've been dealing with an intelligent haunting for years... one in particular has followed me for the past 15 yrs (we think it's my brother who passed away when he was 7, 3 months before I was born). he died peacefully. Anyways..

    Thanks for sharing this.....

  • y lie for

  • I agree! The castle is beautiful! Only why is it that castles like that are haunted by ghosts? That's the part I don't understand! Sooner or later I will know!

  • Hey, Hailey!

It could be that the stone is of the type that "hold memories". Couple that with the fact that most castles have had many deaths and wars happen in and around them, and you could possibly have a good mix for hauntings. Residual seems to be the most often occurrance, but there are some active "intelligent" hauntings as well. Usually someone who met a violent end.

  • Castles also tend to be built on "ley-lines", or lines of power. There also tends to be a large water source in or near a castle. These, along with the type of stone and happenings can all play into a haunting.

  • Beautiful Castle! Just gorgeous!
