Of the pianists who recorded all Grieg's Lyric Pieces, Gieseking was clearly the truest and best. Gilels was also excellent. Mark Farago has not yet recorded all of them but matches and sometimes excels them in what he has done. Still none of them at best could hope to do better than Grieg himself. Even here April 11, 1906 (the year before his death), struggling with rheumatism and frailty and so weak it took him several tries to get through it, he gives the finest performance I've heard.
beautiful. My teacher is making me learn it but i love it. i cant play it as fast but i have all the notes down. I hope i can learn how to play it fast =)
thanks for posting this great quality vid. now i know how fast its supposed to be!
I don't know how you get a hold of these roll recordings, but you are a blessing to this lover of classical. I especially love these Grieg pieces and the pieces by my favorite composer, Debussy.
Thank you very much. You are indeed a credit to YouTube and an asset to this lover of classical. Thanks.

Listen to Walter Gieseking if you want to know how this really should go.
He knew more how to make all the notes sing.

@pianonine Or listen to Grieg playing it himself (here as a piano roll, or also on my channel as a live recording)...

Grieg is my favorite composer. It would so cool if he was still alive today. :)
