  • It is on iTunes . Lookin at it now . 1995 pop one hit wonders , type that in

  • Great song. Brings back warm memories to hear it.

  • Now, I ask you, people:

    WHY. ISN'T. THIS. ON. iTUNES?

  • March 12th, 1995!

I turned 10 and I get to listen to this and now I'm listening to it again because it reminds me of turning 10.

  • She knows what she's doing alright!!

  • Music then kept things real, real expression, real emotions, real soul, real passion and keeping it close to da roots... Instead of throwing some Dirty Dutch Electro rubbish shit into it like what Black Eye Peas did... I guess INTEGRITY dun pay da bills no more... It's really sad to see even Usher and Chris Brown succumbing to dat stupid Dutch Noise...

  • no one here seems to consider it a negative that instead of rhyming she says "yeah" for every second line.

  • 7 people don't know

  • OH THIS REMIND ME WHEN I WAS A CHILD

  • Some people don't get to really appreciate and really miss out on things because they spend too much time focusing on the furniture instead of actually looking at the friggin' house if you know what i mean, this is a damn good song sang beautifully by this woman regardless of her look.

  • She looks like Nick Cannon lol

  • This chic is a man by the way!!

  • I remeber this song from when I was a litte kid in the mid-90s. Now I can fully appercieate it.

  • she should consider growing her hair long, she really looks like a man. in fact, she looks like a man with make up and earrings. sorry.

  • I never fully appreciated this song back in the 90s. Listening to it now, it's sounds amazing.

  • wow i heard this song and the mall and i swear music nowadays doesn't touch me like 90's

  • A 90s highlight for sure

  • Been looking for this song for 5 years! JEAHHHH

  • I never saw Dionne Farris before this video. She really is cute! : )

  • awesome, amazing song!!!!

  • its often the most simple music that is the most catchy. This song is a perfect example of just that

  • I remember having a little girl crush on Dionne and when I see her in this video from back then, I still do :) It's her energy, spirit and smile--she's beauty.

  • I never get tired listening to Dionne Farris...what an amazing voice!

  • I love you so much Dionne Farris! When are you coming to South Africa???! You are talented and may you blessed! Your number one in S.A

  • Thiis song is from the album Wild Seed , Wildflower. I think it is the best album I have ever heard. It is perfect in every way. I dont even know how I come to that conclusion? It just is !

I listen to, write, produce and mix so much music that sometimes I have had enough. But I never get sick of this Album. I would buy her next CD in a second.....

  • This song still kicks ass. When her voice flies it gives me goosebumps.

  • I wish more black people made rock and roll again.

  • There are more a few around. The industry doesn't want it right now, so many of them are underground.

  • she's so damn cute

  • what the heck happened to her?

  • i LOVE THIS SONG SO MUCH...DIONNE YOU'RE THE BEST!! BEAUTIFUL VOICE...

  • this is what you call a good pop song

  • What a nice song... I remember the first time I heard: First took my attention, that great voice and the chorus almost at the end... the sync of all. Superb !!!

  • Comment removed

  • The first time I heard this I thought it was Fleetwood Mac. Sounds just like them, and they could do an excellent cover of it.

  • lol fleetwood mac ? really?? i dunno if it sounds like them but they could do a excellent cover of everything i think lol

  • I just heard this on the radio dthis morning, took me back to a wondderful place!!!!

  • Why isn't this song on I-Tunes? Tried to buy it, it isn't there and that makes me sad. Good memories. I used to have the cassette single to this. :-)

  • Love love loveit!

  • I've always ioved this song, that voice just sounds amazing, and fine pretty sister. The 90's produced some real sounding music!

  • The 90s are a lot like every other decade in that respect

  • Thats not really true,in my opinion some decades produced better music then others.

  • Wonderful song, with slide guitar to die for. Brings back beautiful and painful memories of a stupid affair with a total bastard. You know who you are.....

  • for some reason this song was stuck in my head...didn't even know who performed it....only knew a few of the words, but Googled it til I found it...glad I took the time, great song! Soulful!

  • Awesome song! Brings back memories!

  • I just found out this song was co-written by William DuVall, the new lead singer of Alice in Chains...

  • riminds me of juinorhigh lol

  • LOL!!!

Me too! You must be coming up on 30, or almost there...

  • I just caught the endin to this song in the car...& had forgotten all about it ....This was all over the radio back when it first came out....Reminds me of this little blonde & one great summer in the early 90's at the lake....Man Great Times ...Thanks for postin it!!!!

  • I love this song but WHY is she dancing in the men's bathroom? Lol

  • I guessed that much.

  • I wish she were bigger!!!!

  • Damn this song brings me back to 1995.

  • hell yeah i was 13 in 95. I loved that year Dangerous Minds, melon colie and the infantile sadness, Batman Forever. I miss the 90's

  • love it

  • Excellent artist and song...passion is my fav!

  • When this song first aired on the radio, I was a very happy man. Now I am old and broken. Every time I hear this I am reminded of happier times. Thanks for posting it.

  • love thiss!!

  • I remember when I was a kid this was the first time I heard a black woman singing rock music. Farris made people realize yet again that racial barriers are easily broken with good music. I think this is one of the best songs of the 90s.

  • Me'shell Ndege'ocello was another woman who performed around the same time for the same purpose.

  • love this. pop music like it used to be.

  • We've all been there and its like she's taking the words right from our mouths! Such a great song!

  • I don't normally listen to this sort of music very often, but I have to say that ever since I heard this song, her voice made an indelible mark on my mind, I just couldn't forget it, it's not everyday we have the privilege of being able to hear a talent like this, thank you for posting it here on YouTube

  • great voice picket from arrested develoment were is she

  • This is the first time I've ever seen this video after longing to hear it on the radio year after year. Nothing more fulfilling than seeing another of my conscious sistahs with undeniable self respect, not lowering her own standards by exploiting her body. What an example for all women, encouraging them to acknowledge their value and not fall for the bs anymore!

  • You don't know how much this song means to me. I am so grateful for you posting it.

  • i love the song just don't understand what she is talking about...lol

  • my take -- the song is about a manipulative ex-lover. One who says one thing and does another. That realization leads to the decision of a breakup and the lover tries his/her old charms to patch things up. But it's "not gonna work this time."

  • exactly what I thought it meant, fuzzyprism!

  • 1995 baby. Jr. High. Good times!!

  • this album leaves a big, happy memory for me. It's a shame that radio never figured out what niche she belonged in... dummy radio execs.

  • Maybe Dionne Farris is in that group of artists who were "one hit wonders".... just had one cd.

Or maybe she just wanted to do something else and the proceeds from this song helped her do that.

    Doesn't matter....it's a Great Song !

I hope she's doing alright wherever she is.

  • She's still making music. you can find some of her videos on here. She's got long hair now.

  • What ever happened to her?

  • TheLj1000 , I totally agree with you! The chords at 2:10-2:47 are gorgeous!!

  • Big Thanks to the those whose posted very postive comments. Twice today I view music videos or just videos on youtube and the N word and other hateful comments were posted. It beautiful to hear from sane, healthy , intelligent , people.

  • Thank You, Dionne...I Never get tired of this song....Great lyrics !

  • I second that baby!

  • Love this song. Takes me back to hs. The new lead singer of Alice in chains co-wrote this song.

  • how sweet she is

  • This is really a great song.....I love the lyrics.

  • Real talent is timeless, this song never gets old. Thanks Dionne

  • I'd like to make a comment about the comments on this video. 1st of all, thank you all for the intelligent dialog. So few times on youtube do we ever get this kind of conversation. I am pleased that everyone is conscience of the treatment of true artistry. I myself can only do what comes from my soul, spirit, and heart. Someone said, the 'suits' don't have the time for that. If you're not half naked, as a woman of any color, you can hang it up! Only the people can change the course of music! D:)

  • Dionne, why is this not available on ITunes? They have the video, but not the single. Any ideas? Can you get it on there?

  • looks like I will agree with the forum concerning why I do not listen to the radio any more and choose to download stuff from the internet...

Also you might want to consider this... there was this animated series on MTV about a sarcastic teenager[female] who was too intelligent to go along with the "mainstream" too bad though because I thought she's be a better role model for girl than some of there other vacuous vapid characters you see today....

    He name was Daria....

  • great song written by a great guy...Alice in Chains new member, William Duvall.

  • Always reminds me of Brandon Walsh's re-election loss for student body president of (ficticious) California University on Beverly Hills 90210. Also Valerie Malone. That was the show back then.

  • This is music. No hoochie with her ass and boobs hanging out or someone cussing and talking about "doing" someone. Good music!

  • LMFAO.

    Agreed.

  • Imagine what an artist can accomplish when she isn't pressured into becoming a prostitute. It's one of the great tragedies of pop culture that artists like this aren't given the time to build their fan base and find long-term success. But that would require vision, and the BUSINESSMEN are too shortsighted for that.

Oh well. Corporate Music's loss is Music As Art's gain. I bet Ms. Farris herself would say, "Two tears in a bucket."

  • Great tune, voice, moves, and they look like people I'd hang with. Nice to see some black hippies again. Hope it's okay to say black these. Don't mean to offend.

  • No prob man!! THIS is indeed music! I miss this lady and this song. Artists like her, N'dea Davenport, Michelle Ndegecello (sp?), Seal, Lenny Kravitz, Tracy Chapman...ALTERNATIVE SOUL AT IT'S BEST ! I know those artists HATE to be labeled and classified and pengeon held into a category anyway, since it's so so hard for them to find fair mainstream airplay, but I just called them "alternative soul" for the purpose of this comment LOL. I LOVE these artists!!! Brand New Heavies as well!

  • love this song. Love the way she stretches out the word time.

  • i know this sounds cliche but you dont hear music like this anymore, everything is so disposable and forgetable... if this came out today id be number 1 on the charts but in '95 and the '60-90s in general there was nothing but consistantly good music people definatley got spoiled for a song like this to now be a lost treasure.

the only reason this song would do great today is not just because its a great song but because it has one thing todays mainstream music dosent have... feeling!

  • no way this wouldnt be a number 1 hit these days, first off shes not hot, and shes not dancing around looking sexy, it may be better music but mainstream music today is NOT about good music, its about sex appeal, dont know why, its just the way were evolving.

  • and its sad and fuckin pathetic

  • ant that's why music is shit today

  • So true, and the only reason why mainstream is like that is because the labels have made radio force-feed us the nontalented artists' music down our throats, moreso within the last few years..even when people weren't requesting them as much. I read MANY comments online on how people do make requests for quality songs/artists, but that DJs dont play them but so many times in a WEEK, and that they're "assigned" to play the current mainstream acts. The fight to get real artists airplay is worse now

  • also, what a great voice....

  • nice... this is 90's music...love it!

  • Good song, love it. My wife turned me onto it.

  • I've played in a few bands over the years just as a hobby. I never quit my day job. Recently, the band I now play with acquired a female singer and our boss said we needed to learn this song and work her in. I'd never heard it before and it came out in 1994! Cool song. I was still used to playing oldies from the 50's, 60's, 70's throwback stuff. Very sassy tune. Now one of my favorite tunes.

  • I have been looking for this song, finally found it..since I forgot the name of the singer. It reminded me moments I was about to start my college in 1995 :)

  • I just ADORE how she's so into her own energy. Just doin her own little dance moves flinging an arm here or there when the feeling hits. I need that confidence. I know what your doin'!

  • Ms. Dionne is AMAZING!!!She's good people, too. She's got some gigs coming up around the ATL in July.If you get a chance,DO NOT miss her!!!I'm looking for a video of her ACOUSTIC take on this song.and not for nothing, but she is a HONEY too.TTATB(THAT Talented AND That BEAUTIFUL).

  • This sista is so dope,I'm ready for her new material.Dionne Farris to me predated what people label real music now "Neo-Soul.Along with Tony Toni Tone from Oakland they layed down the foundation and I think Groove Theory which featured future star Amel Larreuix. And my personal favorites The Brand New Heavies too.

  • This was at a time were real women were in music. Mid to late 90s. This came out right before Alanis Morrisette blew up, too. Dionne Farris should've been just as popular but maybe she was ahead of her time.

  • I hear this all the time at my job...this my song though

  • I hear this song all the time at Home Depot and the grocery stores, Now I finally know who does it. Good tune

  • Love everything about this video and song. It's awesome how they look like they're having so much fun just rockin out in a circle. I loved this song when it came out, and now years later I was reminded of it somehow and it hasn't stopped blasting outta my car since.

  • I will never understand why she didn't become a major player in the music industry. after she left Arrested Development. AMAZING SONG

  • Most likely because she wasn't IMMEDIATELY a multi-platinum selling artist. Good music like this takes time to get out and build a fan base, for the most part. yes, bands like Dave Matthews occasionally make it in an album or two, but most artists like this take time to build their fans up, who then are, paradoxically, among the most loyal and rabid of music buyers. Another example of shortsightedness making the public settle for less than the instantly successful. Myopic corporate assholes!

  • Great minds think alike (TWO THUMBS UP!!)

  • I know what your do in...

  • Just popped into my head and here it is..good lookin' Youtube!! Great Song!

  • Great song. Great lyrics!

  • dam this song never gets old.... i stil enjoy it just as much as when it first came out

  • "It's not gon-na work this tiiiiiiiime!"

    Love it!

  • Just woke up thinking of this tune, looked it up, and remembered how much i still love it... time has gone by fast... yeah, i don't even listen to the radio anymore - current music sucks balls...

  • I miss the funky side of rock and roll. You can actually enjoy bopping along to this song. What happened to fun, boppy songs? Oh yeah, rap, hip-hop and American Idol killed it.

  • Ah, quit whining. There's some wack rock out too.

  • Hip hop didnt kill it, no talented hack's killed it.

  • those were the days...

  • right on those were the days

  • One of my all time favorites.Could listen to this everyday.

  • i remember singing this song on the playground. talk about trippy!

  • Best & Most MEMORABLE song of the 90's, so cathy, gr8 voice, gr8 style ADORE IT!

  • damn this song is soooooo good!

  • yea music kind of sucks now. i grew up in the 80's went to college in the 90's those were great times for music

  • hey, i like this song! i heard it a long while back, had no idea who was singing it, glad to match the record with the singer. time is passing by so fast its scary.

  • I wish more Afro-Americans made rock and roll again...

  • i knw wat u doing yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • this is a good'n

  • This track was almost ahead of its time

  • Comment removed

  • WOW!! I've been looking for this video for god knows how long but forgot the artist that made this track...I was like 11yrs old (5th grade) when this came out....What a flashback...I miss music from the 90's

  • 80-90s BEST YEARS EVERRRRRRRRRRRRRR

seems that the more years pass by, the more music and people lose their touch!

I really miss those years, even though i was a kid.

  • i love this woman!!!!!!!! this song brings good memories

  • love this song and one of my favorite albums ever. plus...the reprise of this song to end the album features another underrated artist...paul barrare

  • Yeah, this is a great song. Seein' the reflection of the lights in her glasses always tripped me out. Long live the 90's!

  • MAN!!!!! This was the JAM!!! Dionne is the truth!!!! I miss good heartfelt, music!

  • I love this song! Wish the vid was just a tad clearer, visually.... the audio is great, tho! Brings back great memories from '96!

  • great song....great vid....everyone in the band is getting into the song

  • Dionne Farris is one of the most underrated artists to date

  • this needs to be reposted with better quality.

  • Great song, but 209/249 is a PERFECT song!

  • What a great song! This really, really rocks! A very pretty and talented singer this one is! Good stuff..

  • wow, the song, the singer, the band, the video...such good energy.

  • i was pregnant when this song came out. no wonder i love it! i heard it at the casino last night (ya'll know casinos play the best damn music, right?) and i just had to sit still and listen and just be glad for a great song. i called my sons' father sat morn and asked him who sang it and he said "something like michelle farris" lol... so i googled the lyrics "its not gonna work this time" and Dionne Farris popped right up! I'M SO HAPPY!

  • 95 Thirteen Years already

  • yep, summer of 95

  • i know what you're up to and it's not gonna work this ti----iiii-----iiii----iiiii---mme...not gonna work this time...alright now...

  • I love this song and I love this sista. But I have one question, what is this sista up to now?If anybody knows please let me now.

  • yo bro!!! have you heard about arrested development? greetengs

  • back in the day.....when music had a meaning!

  • LOL! I was just a kid when this song came out! Brings back fond memories. ^.^

  • love her!

go dionne - remember you in high school - go BRHS!

  • 90's true 90's !!!!

  • all the best dionne greetings from Poland

  • This song rocks!! God, it brings back good memories...I remember precisely what I was doing when I first heard it back in '95: I was in the car with my highschool friends driving back from a visit to Ind. Univ., where we were leaving for college in the fall--wow!

Great music always withstands the test of time;)

  • this was the joint in 95

  • it's a mystery to me why some artists become popular and some don't. This song is great! It's got it all! hard rockers and R&B fans can equally get into it, so why isn't there more music like this?

  • Simple: Because we have a very one-sided record business that pushes over-glossed, overrated, and overexposed nontalented artists down our throats by paying radio stations so much to play their music every minute..to the point where the (dumb, teenaged) listeners think "it's hot' and request the song/artist...all the way up the Billboard charts. So the labels think "alternative soul' and "neo soul" artists like Dionne Farris "won't sell" if they promote her. Sad...and SHITTY.. but true

  • hell yeah

  • I've always loved the lights in her eyes in this video.

  • I remember when this album came out. She had trouble getting it produced because the record companies said the public wouldn't be into this style of music. I'm so glad she did it. I love this album.

  • Beautiful song!!!!! Wonderful!

  • Loved this song so much back in the day when I was in grade school. However, I haven't heard this song since then. I had always wanted to know who sang it, now I know. Now, the world seems like a better place, the grass is greener and the days are more wonderful now:)

  • Love this song!!

  • Great artist, also associated with Arrested Development. As others have pointed out, it's a shame we are kept away from great artists by the insipid music industry who force-feed us crap like Coldplay and Badly Drawn Boy. Yuk.

  • What happen to her? I saw her on BET tonight with Tavis Smiley, years ago (it was in 1999) Macy Gray was on the show as well. They were talking about Hip Hop, Rap, R&B, Alternative Rock, and the music industry as a whole. Dionne also said, that her follow-up album/CD was due for release in early 2000. Oh well, guess that didn't happen. It's damn shame, she shouldn't have been a one hit wonder, with a voice like that! The sista can blow!

  • I saw that episode (I think), as they spoke at LENGTH about the difficulty that labels had with artists like them (as well as Lenny Kravitz, Michelle N'degeocello, N'dea Davenport, Seal, Tracy Chapman, etc.) in terms of wanting to pigeonhold them into a certain genre or sectore of music, for marketing purpose..and how that was the labels' excuse for not

  • it almost sounds like country

  • huh?
