ahhh 9 tre... the year i got my drivers license... sparked my 1st L and drank my 1st 40oz....and illmatic dropped....there will never be a more dope time in hip-hop (IMO).. Tribe was still going strong..WU emerged . gangstarr.. ILLMATIC Dropped..,WHAT???
I'm a huge fan of Nas and Elzhi. I own every album Nas ever released and it's been a pleasure to listen to him as an artist. I can't lay the same claim to Elzhi, however I do own all of the released Slum Village albums and one of his solo joints. I'm not a big fan of downloading anything but this truly a classic of a classic. There are still great mc's in the game!! They still exist and Elzhi is one of the best.
All hip hop is sampled so to say someone is not original is kinda hypocritical its not like he stole verse he didn't even take the original beats... Hip hop is way different bcuz I feel a rapper with the talent of elzhi can/should get to nas level but we are in a "dark age" where Wayne and Drake are da best rappers smh... Elzhi ain't what's wrong with hip hop
I personally don't think elzhi is better than nasty but he is a beast... I find nothing wrong with paying tribute to great albums I love da idea honestly... I want to hear it more... If anything is wrong with the "young cats" its not having appreciation about great hip hop
@FDAPO shut your tiny fucking mouth asshole and fucking listen to yourself. Respect? The fucking song is called Represent. Keep taking that medicine. Because in no way did Elzhi say that he was trying to be better than Nas in this. This is the shit that he grew up on and was inspired by and there's nothing wrong with him remaking it. He did a fucking incredible song. I'd take Elzhi's flow and rhyme scheme any day over Nas. I'm not putting this next to Nas but the flow on this song is better.
@GemSh0t elzhi copied nas flow and rhyme scheme on this song, listen to how he starts each verse..and he did it on his other songs to...Nas isnt dead and hes still rhyming, stop paying tribute to him..just like how rakim was mad at nas for paying tribute to rakim. just come up with ur own shit already
@4BadKarma Oh your're really going to tell some kids you heard a remade album cuz Elzhi gets no shine on his own. The dude is a biter and is violating straight up by doing this. Create your own shit. You young cats is why hip hop is fucked up. You all take recycled shit and accept it as great. What's next? Is he going to remake Rakim's "Paid in Full" or "Follow the Leader". This shit is straight up corney. The cat needs to do his own joint and quit biting other peoples material.
@Noomega18 thank u thank u..this dude fashawn and jcole need to stop this shit...get ur own beats, ur own samples, get ur own rhyme patterns...Nas accomplished more with illmatic than elzhi will in his entire career..nas set trends elzhi copies them, plain and simple
@robin8110 yea you could, though it's unlikely having a newborn listening illmatic...wish my parents had glued headphones to my head only playing illmatic
I really liked the Ain't Hard to Tell beat..... But wow, the original Respect beat rapes this, as well as the Remix.... You just don't remake a classic like Respect. How the fuck does someone think they will make a beat better than DJ Premier and rap better than Nas?
@FDAPO Obviously they didn't remake this thinking they would surpass Nas and Preemo, It's a tribute album to the GOAT, Elzhi must have a lot of respect for Nas and the great producers who worked on Illmatic. It's only healthy, he ain't tryna outshine no one. Plus this is a worthy remake, some of those remixes on illmatic to stillmatic had weaker beats than this if i remember correctly.

this shit proofs that nas is one of a kind. Elzhi does a great job but comes nowhere close to the skills nas had on those classic beats

This is that shit you'll tell to the neighbourhood kids when you're old, like "i was there when elzhi released Elmatic!

@Noomega18 sorry man.but you sound pissed off.
this is an ODE to illmatic, not a copy!
El made enough shit of his own which is also fantastic to listen to, but this is just a way to say "that nas album, illamtic, that was that real shit"
I'm actually glad he made this, just to recognize Nas as a legend.
and about that "you young cats" i'm not like 'why is hiphop fucked up'...i mean it isn't!
commercial music is fucked up, but that ain't hiphop! THIS IS!
