I tried the whole electronic thing while force pushing the doodoo rock. I still prefer holding paper magazines. I can't for some reason force push one out while holding an electronic device.
what's the point of having all those "digital" titles? when amazon ever goes bankrupt or dies out.. where do all of your hundreds or thousands of books go? they sure as hell won't be sitting safe on your shelf.
I have an Iphone and downloaded the app for stanza and ereader, believe me after reading a couple of chapters i did feel so sick and dizzy. i bought the kindle and it's amazing. "IF" and a big "IF" you read a lot, the kindle is for you, BUT if you just read one book a year, then stick with your Iphone ereader app.
So, imagine I buy a thousand books through Amazon kindle (my collection of books is roughly several thousand.) Imagine that I buy these books and then Amazon hypothetically goes down the tubes, or fails or whatever. All those books go bye-bye and I have "NOTHING" to show for it. Nothing can ever take my TANGIBLE books away unless some apocalyptic event occurs in my library.
Yes, and what happens is Amazon (the company) fails and I have a bunch of e-books? What, I can read them on my computer now.. wow, that really sucks? The books are much safer on my shelf. Amazon has a better chance of failing as a company than the books on my shelf ever being lost/damaged.
Yeah, then what? What if I want to read the book in 10 years and the company is no longer there and is unable to service the device if something is wrong with it? People said Circuit City wasn't going to go down.. look where irrational thinking got them.
And if the Kindle breaks, and there is Amazon to replace the Kindle.. then... I just wasted thousands upon thousands upon thousands of dollars in e-books that are now.. useless? Oh wait, I can view them on the computer.. joy /sarcasm
well you do know that know one is putting a gun to your head and making you get one right? so just dont get one, and if your not getting one why r you complaining?
Well, I'm a risk evaluator.. and the chance of Amazon going down is considerably higher than someone putting a gun to my head.. based on where I live.
Yeah.. I would almost agree with you, except that it's virtually impossible for my library to sustain any fire damage. A fire would somehow have to work it's way through many walls of poured concrete before it got to my books.

Commercial support... you know, in most cases it as much as no support at all.
As for commercial quality: All those great 30 USD programs that are commercial. Does that make them any good? No.

How about uploading free books to it?

Works great!

free books would mean ILLEGAL. nothin like supporting your favorite author by stealing their publishings
AlaskanPipeWorm 3 years ago
"Free" (as in cost) books has nothing to do with illegally obtaining books. There are an almost uncountable number of freely available eBooks.

Well, there's no need to buy books from Amazon's store in order to use the Kindle. Lots and lots of free (legally) books out there.

but they stay on your device. you dont ever lose them even if the company goes away, which i dont think they're going anywhere.

thats perfectly fine, your books will still be on your kindle. you can back all of your books up to files on an sd card and your computer.

yeah your kindle could break. Your bookshelf could also catch on fire. At least you have digital back ups of the ebooks.

they won't be sitting on you shelf because they will be safely burned into 1's and 0's inside your kindle's flash drive.
