Back then, the only reason to go to Chuck E. Cheese was the wall to wall video games. I don't think I ever ate a single slice of pizza until I started taking my nephews a few years ago.
Nowadays, it's just a depressing place. A shell of the awesome place it was in the 80's.
@goosebumps2002 Chuck E. Cheese was first Pizza Time Theatre, then Chuck E. Cheese's Pizza Time Theatre, then just Chunk. E. Cheese. This commercial is from 1981. So yea, I'm right. ;) Anyone remember Billy Bob's Showtime Pizza Place?
@SaturdayMorningAlive It was Showbiz Pizza Place and I remember it well. Never had a Cuck-E-Cheese in my aera that I know of til the Concept Unification. I hate Chuck-E-Cheese and still do. But my son loves it. So what can I do? lol
@somethinsuavetheater Ah yes! I said Showtime when in fact it was Showbiz in the earlier post. Thank you for clarifying my mixup. I remember going to a CEC Pizza Time Theatre some time in the mid 80's (I was 6 or so) and it was fun times (first time I played Super Mario Bros on the arcade cabinet. Now Chunk E. Cheese isn't as magical anymore....
@SaturdayMorningAlive I remembered playing Dragon's Lair at Showbiz Pizza. I finally beat it this year. lol. Lots of great times and memories. Esp of The Rock-afire Explosion. Have you seen the Rock-afire Explosion Documentary?
@somethinsuavetheater I cannot say I have seen the documentary. But it sounds interesting. I think ill watch it soon. Thank you for sharing your memories and stories.
dude i tottally remeber this place when i was a kid! I remeber there being lots of games, a play structure that went up to the ceiling, and a ball pit! oh how i loved the ball pit! then things started to disappear...first the ball pit, then the little kids section, not the whole place entirely! the only think left untouched from my childhood is the showtime performance...sigh too many lost memories...
@KittyKatz547 I remember going to the 1st one at town & country san jose & they had tunnels that you had to craw to get to the dark black lighted video game rooms & all the lights turned off like a theater -_-
I remember going to Chuck E. Cheese's when I was just ten, feeding the Super Mario Bros arcade machine tons of quarters. Now with most games being rigged "games of chance" and win tickets to worthless cheap prizes. How I miss the old days.
Oh my gosh, that place drives me nuts! LOL Too dang noisy, and kids running around everywhere unsupervised. And the pizza's lousy, too.
Whatever happened to Shakey's (or was it Straw Hat) where they played the Little Rascals/Our Gang comedies and the pizza was great? Now THAT was a pizza parlor!
When I used to go to Chuck E. Cheeses it was quite different than today, today most of the games you find there are ticket games that cheat you. Back then they had some awesome classic games that you just put a quarter in to play them. Not to win some cheap toy. Super Mario Brothers/Duck Hunt was one of my favorite machines back then. And the pizza was pretty damn good but im sure it sucks now! Thanks for the comment.
It was Straw Hat Pizza. They'd also show Mighty Mouse shorts on the big screen projection TV.
Once, when I was a kid, I brought the hate of the entire pizzeria down on me. I insisted on watching The A-team over the final episode of Three's Company, making a huge racket to both my parents and the staff. Of course, being the only kid in the place, my request would take precedence over anyone else. That was probably the first time I ever heard of the word, "abortion".
Holy shit lol
