  • LaChiusa's version has a much more accurate look and feel that suits the piece. Lippa's has good music, but his lyrics are kind of... meh. Lippa can write music, but his lyrics tend to be banal.

  • This has a better book, but Lippa's has more fun music.

  • Eartha Kitt is amazing

  • AMAZING

  • 2 tracks done for the wild party so far, more on the way

  • WOW the awesome Eartha still giving me goose bumps

  • I just love Mandy. He's so awesome :D

  • Off Broadway cast is soooo much better!

  • @allthings01 not sure if you already know this, but most of the Wild, Wild, Party Off-Broadway cast videos on Youtube are from a different show from the same source material. :)

  • I didn't realize it until just now, but that's Reuben from Dead Like Me!!! I suddenly like this 20x more.

  • What is the song that Eartha Kitt is singing? Is it on the cast album? Where is there a professional recording of Eartha Kitt singing it?.....My ears must be blessed! haha x

  • @MrKandyLife

Its called When it Ends and you can find this cast recording on itunes- just make sure the album has the same design as the one on the playbill shown at 0:02 :)

  • OMG did anyone else notice that the 2nd lady was the lady who did the voice of Yzma from The Emperor's New Grove. :)

  • @NathanMan100 Eatha Kitt. Go bless her. :) If you want a blast from the past, check her out singing "Ushka Dara" and "I want to be Evil!" Her personality is a total force with which to be reckoned.

  • I think they're both fantastic in their own ways. Their scores are both great in different ways. Lippa's has more of a driving eclectic feel. LaChuisa's is so wonderful in conjunction with the period. The books are the same way. While I do love Lippa's version, I think LaChuisa deserves a hell of a lot more credit than he gets. I say long live both versions!

  • Does anyone know the possible genre of "Queenie was a Blonde" (0:05) and "When it Ends" (2:15)? I really dig the mood there.

Other than the general "broadway" of course. Thanks.

  • Adorable Eartha

  • Eartha MFING KITT

  • To all the Lippa lovers - I agree his show had better character and a few standout songs, but "When It Ends" puts his entire production to shame, esp. in the hands of Eartha Kitt.

  • @amazinggarrett1 Agree

  • A fitting premonition for 9/11 or what?

  • I love the beginning. <3

    It sounds autotuned though D:

  • what the hell happened at 00:30 ?

  • I honestly hate this version, but I LOVE Dolores' song.

  • im sorry but the music and lyrics in this version are just really lame. Th eLippa version is musical genius. His sound is innovative and brilliant. The talent in that cast was a million times better as well. I can't believe this made it to broadway and Lippa's didn't...

  • Legends never die!

  • Ew.... why did they auto tune them? It totally took me out of the performances.

  • @Grade00School Nobody was autotuned. This was a live performance. This was a medley of songs from the show, and typically Broadway casts have less than a week to rehearse in a new theater for the Tonys, let alone new arrangements, which is why both Toni and Eartha have moments where they go for the wrong note.

  • Eartha Kitt was FABULOUS!!! (Toni Colette wasn't bad either) - Liked he Show. Good to see this clip. Thanks!

  • I wonder how grateful Vanessa Williams was that she got pregnant and had to pull out of this disaster.

  • this sucks...i'm sorry the lippa version is so much better

  • what is the name of the song from 3:37-4:12?

  • i love Toni! and Mandy!

  • this version sold out...it's way mainstream Broadway...the other is a lot darker and way more believable.

  • @neoshadow9898 This show did not do very well on Broadway. It was an open-ended commercial run that closed after just 36 previews and 68 performances. It did not sell out. It did not pay back its investors. It did not receive very good reviews.

  • LIPPA'S IS SOOO MUCH BETTER!

  • Ugh, Toni Collette would've made a MUCH better Roxie than Renee Zellweger. And she would've been in the film if Rob Marshall had his way.

  • @ggfanjase that is absolutely true!!! I have said that for years and now here's the proof. I am such a fan.

  • After watching the clip of Ms. Collette on Rosie performing Low Down Down, I have to wonder what sparked the change of wig? I think her wig is much better in the Rosie clip.

This show was incredible from start to finish. Three times.

  • I do agree that this is a half-decent musical in it's own right (if not a bit unfocused, in my opinion). It's just unfortunate that it is still overshadowed by the fabulous Lippa show that is still considered-well-better. And though I ADORE Mandy Patinkin in every single note, he just doesn't feel like the right type of singer for Burrs at ALL. Certainly, the sacrifice of 'period accuracy' that I've heard Lippa's accused of, is made up for by the fact that it is MUCH stronger and better written.

  • @ANoteFYI I agree, although I love Mandy something fierce, I always see Burrs with a lower voice. I personally am a fan of the Lippa show, I would like to see revivals of both though.

  • @ANoteFYI and the amazing 'Contact'

  • what year is this???

  • @tattletalestrangler1 It was B'Way in 2000

  • Eartha Kitt for the win!

  • The presentation at the Tony's was a disservice to the power and muscle of the actual production. The best thing about this clip is the remarkable Eartha Kitt. Toni Collette was far better in the show itself. I went 3 days after this appeared on the Tony's, the week it closed. It was remarkable.

Lippa's had better character development and a few stronger songs, but weaker arrangements that didn't evoke the time and place. This Tony clip is nothing like the show, which was a-ma-zing.

  • does anyone ever perform this version of the wild party, like at local theaters or colleges?

  • We're performing this version in a few weeks at Warwick University. I'm playing Eddie. You should come see it if you can make it. Its gonna be WILD!!

  • Who could think Toni Collette has such a voice?

  • @honggiangvogia The list is "Queenie was a Blonde", "A Wild PArty", "Welcome to my Party", "When it Ends", "Gin/Wild". Hope that helped.

  • does anyone know or hav a list of the songs performed here?

  • does anyone have a list of the songs performed?

  • @CrazyTuber13

    "Queenie Was a Blonde"

    "Wild Party" (title song)

    "Welcome to My Party"

    "When It Ends"

    "Wild"

  • i think the lippa version has some great songs, and is certainly fun. however, he seems to be riffing on golden age musical theatre when the show is about performers and musicians in the 20s. lachiusa's version is totally in the 20s, and also captures the dark seductive lyricism of the poem. it's not about a fun party, it's about a WILD party, where scary, life-scarring things happen. both scores make you want to go, but only lachiusa's shows you the consequences.

  • i agree that lippa's is better if you can't appreciate the superior musicality that is the LaChiusa version. don't get me wrong i like the lippa version, its fun and poppy and super catchy and a great vehicle for 2 male and female leads. LaChiusa is more of an ensemble show and requires that the actors be true musicians as well as actor/dancers. they're both great and DIFFERENT shows

  • Personally, I appreciate Lippa's version more. I think it's far superior, but when you get down to it, it's comparing apples and oranges. They are two completely different shows with similar stories. It's not fair to say that one is better than the other, even though most of us are guilty of doing just that.

  • @Rktang85 "i agree that lippa's is better if you can't appreciate the superior musicality that is the LaChiusa version." - couldn't have said it better myself.

  • What song is this?:)

  • I absolutely hate this version Lippa's is wayyyy better it's a shame it's such a "secret" show it should be more popular it's phenomenal

  • i like lachuisa's version mush better, i feel like the music is truer to the story and the times the musical is set in. i like lippa's ok but i don't get a sense of the twenties when listening to it. also i think there is more of a narrative in the music of lachusa...ps the Broadway version had eartha kitt so that makes it better automatically.

  • Lippa's was soooo much better! I'm surprised this made it to broadway when Lippa's didn't.

  • @PyroDefysGravity Don'y be stupid this was the better version . You know it was.

  • I agree. This one sucks lol

  • Lippa's is a lot better, it's composed better. but this is still good

  • TONI COLLETTE!!

OMG! I didnt know she could sing!

    :D

  • Lippa's is better. Just sayin'.

  • @sogreekchiclucky13 There is something seriously wrong with you.

  • yeah. I love patinkin and I often found him quite charming, but his singing falsetto just doesn't do it for a macho character such as Burs...

  • I think this version's score is darn near flawless, but the Lippa version is very good as well. La Chuisa really captured the wild side of 1920s music styles and the build-up of the more disturbing aspects of the story is shocking. The moment when the mayhem really starts takes my breath away every time.

  • does anyone have any videos from this wild party version.

i would love to see and compare with the off broadway

i also think that people like the off broadway version better because the music is pretty much better. i have heard the broadway version and got a little bored listening to it, but that doesnt really mean that it is better overall

  • is queenie a bigger part than kate?

  • yes, considerably.

  • Yes, queenie is the lead

  • yes

  • Personally, I think I like this version better because the dark, seductive tone and how much more focused on the 1920s setting really appeals to me. When I see this, I think of a combination of The Great Gatsby and Chicago which sounds genius to me. I've always loved the 1920s culture.

  • Also, the storytelling in Lippa's is a little... weak. And George C. Wolfe and Michael John LaChiusa are geniuses and theatrical giants.

  • This musical is such a trainwreck.

The Lippa version, on the other hand, has moved me like no other musical I've ever been exposed to.

  • The Lippa version is boring.

  • i like the lippa version too

  • I like some of this music better but i like the story of lippas better,

  • I wish they would have ended that last bit with the ending of the first Queenie Was A Blonde.

  • GIDEON!!

I knew he was in musicals but I didn't know he was in this one....this is why i love youtube :D

  • are the characters the same as in the versoin of lippa?

  • is that Rube from Dead Like Me?

  • Yep. Isn't he amazing!!!

  • She was considered for the role of roxie in the film chicago but producers said no because she was not a well known enough actress!

  • Much Love Eartha.

  • what a gem you have been, dear eartha..unforgettable...missing you so much! rest in peace!

  • the only good thing about this version is Eartha Kitt.

  • @enabeleno I disagree Tonya Pinkins as Kate was great & Marc Kudisch as Jackie really did a great job.

  • Lippa's is so much better...

this music is not as good and pretty unoriginal

the performances in that from Julia and Idina are near impossible to beat as well.

    This just kinda bores me

  • They're both great shows. I resisted the LaChiusa version for a while, and gave it a chance and I like it as much as, if not more than the off-broadway. I still think they're both great shows, though.

  • is this lippa's....the composition is just weird

  • no it is not Lippa's it's LaChuisa's

  • i like the offbroadway version so better

if they wouldve put the off broadway cast on broadway with the lippa version it would probably be still running

  • ughhhhh i hate this version so much

godd the other version of wild party is sooooooooo much better.

i mean this sint 'bad' persay

but idina menzle and taye diggs are in the other on

and i like the compositions soo much better!!!!!!!!
