@drumondo His claim for Queenslander lies with the fact that he played for the Brisbane Norths Devils, a few Brisbane based feeder clubs and the senior school team (he finished high school in Brisbane). Officially though, his first senior footy (over the age of 16) was for Newcastle Hunter Sports High. Maybe he thought that it didn't count or maybe he was just converted when he moved to go to school up there.
@MoNercy tonga, inglis and falou where all approached by the QRL and told that they would not get a run with the likes of gaz, coop's, tahu, gidley, lions and the rest of the NSW backs already having played SOO before them, so they should play for QLD, its been going on for years
@TheBackrower Inglis' tenous link to Queensland is probably the most blatant poaching. But it's fair, I suppose. Every NRL player wants to play SOO. I'm sure if it was me, I'd also choose to guarantee start for the Maroons instead of waiting for a spot in the Blues that may never appear. Besides, if a Scot who first played in Darwin can play for NSW, I suppose anything's possible. xD
SOO is less about where the players are from and more about the high-quality footy and the passion of the fans.
@MoNercy Who was the Darwin person to play for NSW? Fatty vautin is a Palmerston boy. The true shame in all those guys converting is that it takes the recognition away from all the coaches and volunteers and development staff that made him. friends of mine have gone onto SOO international and all the honour’s and it’s a pat on the back to the junior club and coaches along the way i know people who run camps in the Bowraville/ Kempsey area are pissed cause they took it as a thanks for nothing.
@TheBackrower James McManus. Very true on the point about the developmental side of things. You can make the point for McManus that NSW was the first 'state' that he played for, so I suppose there's a logic to that. And guys who were born in one state but raised in another are perfectly within their rights to play for their 'second' home (e.g. Sterlo, Peter Wallace), but guys like Inglis and Folau who were born NSW, spent their early years here, I wonder how much pride they really feel for QLD.
@MoNercy mate there is no pride left. and as a result of these people picking and choosing sides or when they want to play, they are pushing the die-hard real fans away. and we only have these fairweather numbers. we need better control of selections and REAL BLOODY SCRUMS!!
@TheBackrower Proper contested scrums would be great. I used to play flanker in a rugby comp - no better feeling than winning against the feed and quick-picking it and barging through unsuspecting defence. Either that, or ditch scrums altogether.
More control over selections - great idea. Something like the Indigenous vs. All-Stars wouldn't go astray. The selectors could pick out 25-30 players and the fans do the rest.
I probably wouldn't be complaining if NSW would just win a bloody series.
@MoNercy Yeah i know, and contesting the scrums also brings back the real front row forwards. For me it’s not as much the result of the game in origin, but rather the physicality of the contest. And of the last couple of years that has been missing, i think it left with the passion.
@07bucchr Truly so. The only player still playing Origin that was involved in the last series win in 2005 is Minichello, and he only made the cut due to injury to other fullbacks. Look at the Maroons, and they had players from 2003 in great touch - Lockyer, Smith, Civoniceva, Hodges. The only positive is that the Maroons will go through the same thing NSW did a few years ago and see a lot of players retiring. But whereas we've lost Johns and suffered ever since. QLD have Cronk to replace Locky.
@ManUtd2560 i no what u mean i remember 2005 and 2006 like it was yesterday and i arrive in australia in 2007 and rugby did no look this oldschool from 2009 and up SOO is so much more modern bring back the old stars like mason, fitzgibon, badeus, ryan hoffman and brett stewart.
Let me tell you something Ricky Stuart you already know...State of Origin, you pick your Best 17...Nothing has changed from that, your over complicating things...Losing Game 1 close doesn't confirm your view is right, it further stresses the point we needed Hayne and Idris...With the Game in the balance QLD went to there Strike Weapons...We had nothing, we had our Big Guns Hayne and Idris out...Two guys most likely to break any defense...Swallow your pride Stuart...Pick whats in front of you
@1love1world1cause sorry to burst your bubble here buddy, hayne has had a shocker of a year this year. his only good performance this year was in round 26 where he had a blinder and played exceptionally well. however this was versing the titans so it doesn't really count.
if you want a hero, billy slater is the best fullback in the world currently and every game he plays amazing and is always backing up everyone. darren lockyer - legend. and neither of these guys are stuck up pricks like hayne.
@johmedis EVERY player has his quiet/off games.....where was Billy Slater when The Storm got slaughtered and humiliated 40-0 by Manly in the 2008 Grand Final.
@shyjames83 I'm not berrating him for not being in form in the '09 Grand Final. I simply explained why people say he's overrated. How about not jumping to conclusions?
@shyjames83 To who? I actually said the exact thing (worded differently of course), so, you'd look a right mug if it was to me... Oh, it was. It said my name. Tsk.
@MonzieCS whats that got to do with him? i'd like to see you jump in a blues jumper and save the team against what it arguably the greatest QLD team of all time.
@pigboy564 fancy having a legend not picked for origin or the test squad during the prime of his career. Not because of injury or suspension but purely on the fact that he's playing like shit, he's overrated and finally people are starting to see right through him. Josh Dugan and michael gordon are far better fullbacks for NSW and billy slater poops all over hayne. Lol legend. Wally lewis andrew johns these are legends and only reason they never made rep sides was injury/suspension/retirement
@flashing101 from wat i believe he was able to play for fiji due to his background. He was eligible for Australia but didn't get selected so he played for fiji but now since he one of the best in the game he plays for australia coz he gets selected..i culd be wrong but thats my understanding
@flashing101: When it comes to Origin, it depends on where he played his first game of organized Footy. If he first played in Fiji, he wouldn't be eligible for Origin however, since his first club was The Cabramatta Two Blues, he is eligible to play for NSW.

wow that had to be one of the shittest attempts at goal i have ever seen, seriously he should have been able to kick that easy. And another thing i dont understand was that the NSW selectors were clearly told that Jamie Lyons DIDNT want to play State of Origin, yet they still picked him.
@VinJizm agreed, so many people go nuts over anything he does even the negative things "OMFG OMFG jarred hayne fell over!!!! HES AMAZING" there are far better players on the park
Gee, quite a few of these Origin reps players play for the Melborne Storm. Man they must have a good "culture" at that club to attract so many talented players....
@Tehui1974 Seeing most of them were picked for Origin, it looks like everyone is telling the NRL to go and flog itself. Fair enough as far as I`m concerned. I`m a league fan and just want to see the best players in Origin. If the NRL office was hit by a meteor I wouldn`t shed too many tears. Put someone in charge who has a clue. Tommy Raudonikis, Artie Beetson, Bert Newton who gives a shit. Has to be changed.
it was so obvious! especially after that grand final, i felt so bad for the parra supporters and players because it was just so easy to see the melbourne storm had more than any reasonable amount of rep level players for the nrl salary cap...
@Tehui1974 Ha, yeah the melbourne $culture$ attracts a lot of talented young players who want to be part of that $culture$, man, just have to love that melbourne $culture$, bellamy is a hell of a coach to create that winning $culture$

@Tehui1974 HAHHAHAHAHA what a comment bro.
it was so obvious! especially after that grand final, i felt so bad for the parra supporters and players because it was just so easy to see the melbourne storm had more than any reasonable amount of rep level players for the nrl salary cap...

@Tehui1974 Ha, yeah the melbourne $culture$ attracts a lot of talented young players who want to be part of that $culture$, man, just have to love that melbourne $culture$, bellamy is a hell of a coach to create that winning $culture$
