As a Bible professor once taught me any text taken out of context is a pretext... so in answer to all of Paul and his dress code comments. Please do not dress in a way that is distracting in church... No bald heads ( happening in a certain sect back than) If you actually read about the women of the Bible not just comments Paul made here and there you would see that they had a prominant space in the Bible including Pricilla and Aquila (hubby / wife possibly one of the writers of NT)

Light ( Gen 3) water( Gen 6) and air (Gen 20). Why MUST it be accepted as an accurate historical event, and not as an instructional parable? If parables are good enough for Jesus to put into the NEW Testament, why couldn't they be good enough for a parable based on a severe local (not global) flood, and put into the OLD Testament?

@petion2010 Continuing..Paul was all about how Christian should behave in bad societies in ways that did not bring ill repute on Jesus. Women as property and slavery were societal, not Biblical, concepts. Paul was teaching them how to behave in those conditions. Christians in rigidly Islamic countries have to be careful how their behavior is viewed by society as well. This is what Paul was addressing, not approval of those conditions.

@1angel10777 We can't have it both ways. Either the Bible is a collection of FACTS and MYTHS, or it is a scientifically &historically acurate report of specific events. In the Flood, Yaweh kills all the bad people. Innocent babies drown. Humanity soon returns to a wicked condition. In the parable of the Sower and the Seed, Jesus explains why Yaweh does NOT just kill off the bad, and let only the good survive.At the Passover, innocent babies died as Yaweh shows how SPECIFIC His killings can be

To me, the funniest part of the Bible is after the Flood waters recede, and God suddenly realizes that He forgot to give LIGHT the correct physical properties, so He tells Noah from that moment on , that light, shining through droplets of water vapor, WILL refract into the colors of the rainbow. Check it out! Back on Day One, it's "Let there be light!", and it is good. the Bible says so. But, not good enough, and it takes God CENTURIES to admit His mistake. I admire Him for that, OK?

@BanjoMikeGregory That doesn't necessarily mean that light didn't have those properties before that time. That just means that God was taking something ordinary and making it into a symbol of a covenant.

@BanjoMikeGregory Well technically speaking if it didnt exist back then then its not necessarily wrong. After all, you cant say something is wrong if it was never created in the first place. There were no "correct" physical properties because at the time those properties didnt exist, or they did but everything that needed to happen for rainbows to exist hadnt happened yet. Whose to say that the reason a rainbow didnt happen was because it couldnt, or all of the things needed to make a rainbow -

She is hilarious & while I don't follow her religion, she is a beautiful soul. What the Bible is talking about is that women should dress & look like women, and men should dress and look like men. Many are SO into vanity and dress to impress. It is humility and the things of the heart that is important, not what you wear. So about the braiding of the hair & jewelry, it's not that you can't wear them, just don't go overboard and make your appearance of great importance. Focus on the heart, the Word of God, and your relationship with Him, that is what our focus should be.

Well, the ancient Hebrews were directed on how to dress. Then again, they were to be different from their neighbors however they could. In modern times,however, God's people get away with just following cultural norms on how to dress as long as they maintain some modesty. As for dancing, it depends on why they're dancing and how they do it. King David did a victory dance on one occasion, so I don't think it's outright wrong.

Deuteronomy 22:5 ESV/A woman shall not wear a man's garment, nor shall a man put on a woman's cloak, for whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord your God.

One of the things to remember, for Biblical clothing directions, is that what you wear projects a certain image to the world. For instance, in Timothy, it wasn't that the gold and braided hair and such were wrong in themselves. It's that they projected a certain image to the culture around them. Most of Paul's restrictions could be distilled to: Don't dress to impress people with how important you are, or don't dress like the prostitutes do. A Christian is to direct glory to Christ, not to self.

@dunfalach Yeah! the same societies that kept women locked at homes and treated them as properties. The same Paul that said that women should shut up and not allowed to speak in the church assemblies. Oh by the way, slaves should obey their masters because that's the just thing to do in the eyes of god. You do realize back in those days only widowed women could move freely in that region and women had to be completely covered like Taliban. Sorry, I take very little advice from iron age men.
