Can"t get enough of this beautiful video. I playi this at least once a day. Love the audience reaction and Corelli's smiles. I always play "Dicitinciella Vuje" after: I can then face whatever my day throws my way.
Here, the opposite to what I have stated before about the aria "Nessun dorma" is true: Whereas the great Corellis ringing crystal tone is simply too hard for this soft, almost timid song of worship, Mario Lanza's melting timbre is just right... Like in any aspect of life, the sentence "horses for corses" also applies to operatic voices...
@100musicforever - Have you heard Tito Gobbi sing this? Lovely. Yet I admire Corelli too. Each are wonderful in their own way and we should appreciate them as individual artists. It's a great privilege to have their recordings left for future generations.
When this man had sung, it had been SUNG !! Sorry, but in my very humble opinion, there never has been a technique, a singer's voice, like this one. I fear it is a dying art.
with all due resperct to Corelli, he is my favorite opera tenor, he is not quite fit to sing Neapolitan songs, yes he sounds gorgeous but rather showing off his technique then his feelings(He is still better then Del Monaco in this realm). The best opera singers who sang Neapolitan songs were, to my point, Schipa and Gigli. Opera singers usualy don't know how to sing simple songs, they transform it in to another operatic aria, caring again about projection
Obviously,Gigli and Schipa were the best canzonettas singer...they were unique...their technique suddenly diseppared when they were face to cafe with the spirit of people...Caruso and De Lucia,too...Corelli belongs to another generation,Sir...gorgeous,magnificent,unique,too...but his generation was golden generation..not platinum...Do you understand the difference?
I repeat, Franco is one of the best tenor voices ever given to our planet, and if you are a fan, then of course there will be never a critical note from you.
0.36 sciolillo-is not pretty, his neapolitan is wrong sometimes Dammillo(o should not pronounced, on 1:43 diminuendo is clear show off(Listen guys, he sais, I can do it longer then anybody)
Clearly he is not a master of songs, but the king of Opera
@Cesaare ...what you dont't understand is: this diminuendo might be al little too long. But he was the only! spinto singer in the world who could sing it like that. No other tenor, not even Bergonzi could sing this phrase with such a diminuendo (Di stefano could have done it, but he was clearly not a spinto). That is the real miracle with this phrase. So you don't understand, what this tiny little phrase means for all spinto singers in the world. It is just an unreachable sphere of artistry.
@dg6da What you don't understand that art is higher then technique. Diminuendi or other artistic and technical tricks are to serve music and not to make show off of them. I'm a huge fan of Corelli and know his art very well, but Corelli sometimes granstands, like in Parma performance of Cavaradossi, where he holds High note(A) indefinatly.
One part of audience starts bravoing(vocalists) and other booing(musicians). To be a true fan doesn't mean to to like everything your idol does, because that turns into a religion, sooner or later:)
