  • Love the sweet sounds you bring out of those fenders.

  • nice, expressive guitar playing.......beautiful Tele tone!

  • 1:47 but dont only listen to that part of the video. wow...new favorite guitar player

  • What a sweet amp..portable, clean, tremolo, and reverb

  • Again, I dwell on this video and this gentleman! Mr. Campilongo, I am such a fan! Wahi'

  • healing music he's doing..............love it

  • This relatively unknown guy overplays all that legion of wannabees of the guitar stablishment. Tone, virtuosity...a must..the kind of guitar players will keep you buying records for a lifetime. Long life Jim Campilongo

  • I tried a new princeton reverb at a local guitar store. It sounded way harsh beyond belief. I couldn't get a usable sound out of it. I guess the speakers really need to be broken in. Then I plugged into some new vox and a fender tweed amps, and they sounded perfect out of the box..

  • man . . . this guy can play . . .

  • first fendermusical channel review i fully enjoy !!

first time i hear jim campilongo ...

    cheers !

  • Lots of reverb...

  • Je connaissais pas ce guitariste, charismatique et intéressant.

  • That Princton Reverb sounds just like my HRDx3, would you say it has a very simpler tone to the HRDx, U make it sound so much better than me like.

  • Jim and his playing.... so unique!

Pre '67 Brown and Blackface Princetons are amazing!!!!

I own and have owned lots of boutique and vintage amps, but since buying a 1966 PR 5 years ago I feel naked not having this amp with me.

It really has become my sound.... Best recording / giging amp amp ever!!!

  • Does it have to be cranked up to sound good or can it be used for homerecording as well?

  • @triclops8 depends what you want. It gets awesome cleans even at .5 ... if you want a nice overdriven sound you have crank up the volume... Humbuckers will overdrive at lower volumes and single coils you need to go 6-8 for the volume. This amp is LOUD. Really LOUD. Great great cleans though. (I borrowed my cousin's and played with it for about a week). Campilongo is not kidding with his Pete Townshend thing.

  • damn it... I want one real bad now !!!

  • Wow, great inch of grit under them strings there. Hey, if it adds to tone then go for it. That amp and axe produce an amazing tone with this mans hands.

  • is he using a coin?

  • i guess Fender must have given Jim a unit with a real plywood baffle, no rattle. Never heard a reissue that didn't rattle bad.

  • too much reverb for my taste but great style and playing.

  • @fIRsTRATmAN

I agree as a rule but in Jim's hands it's just his style of playing. I couldn't imagine it would sound like him without the reverb.

  • what is the name of the song when the vid begins?

  • i think people need to remember that fender amps are great for distortion cos of the gorgeous clean sounds and huge headroom mean pedals sound great through them, look at proguitarshop who use the deluxe reverb reissue for every vid :)

  • My best friend has this amp and I was playing through it on his Les Paul and on my ESP last night. It's a dream to play through!

  • I like Jim's style! But he covered his amp without turning it off :)))

  • I usually uhm..just play on the, volume 10, bass 10, ten ten ten...CUT...i usually don't have any idea about tone, so i put it all on 10 and let it drown in a swamp of reverb.

    This is just terrible. Sorry

  • @voodoovibes007 you don't have the chops to carry Campilongo's amp.....

  • @voodoovibes007 the amount of reverb is personal taste, and the guy's tone is fantastic and he is a killer guitar player.

  • " I admit, I have to go to reverbs - anonymous"

  • What's most impressive...the Princeton, the well-played Tele or the man himself? I think it's obvious...what a gentleman! I am such a fan!!!!!!

  • I've already bought this great amp, it just lacked some distortion for a more bluesy sound, I solved it quickly with a T-Rex Mudhoney 2 stompbox. Now its perfect!

  • @PF1964 i LOVE the Mudhoney - i challenge anyone to find a louder pedal.

  • matt plays a nash

  • Fabulous amp..one of the Best all time amps ever and still going today.

  • I'm a huge Campilongo fan, so much so that I ran out and bought a Princeton Reverb Reissue. I was very disappointed in the amp, not because I thought it would make me sound like Jim (that's impossible), but because it really just wasn't much bang for the buck (google reviews to find all of the manufacture issues w/ them). If you're looking for a similar tone to this, I'd definitely throw in a little extra scratch and get an original, or a similar amp (such as carr amps or victoria amps).

  • @bnburns2000

They make a Princeton Recording version with a power attenuator so you can crank the tubes at lower volume, and some other extra goodies. It's the same circuitry.

  • @giantrobot9000 i own a Princeton RI and love it but I would avoid the Recording version of this amp. The attenuator will cut out after getting too warm...that's why they discontinued it.

  • @sirpaisley

Didn't realize that. I even had one for about a month, but got a '65 Deluxe Reverb instead. I remember someone saying they had blown them out for cheap, though.

  • @giantrobot9000 How do you like the '65 DR? I thought about getting one instead of the Princeton RI but I never play out and didn't want an amp that was too loud.

  • @sirpaisley

I really like it, but it is a pretty loud 22 watt amp! I run mine clean around 2-3 and use a BB Preamp and Danelectro Transparent Drive when I gig. It's hard to play it quietly at home, but I guess it depends on how much space you have. It's definitely a really fine amp, though. I'm borrowing a vintage '65 Pro Reverb 2x12 right now, and it holds its own in the tone department. I've got NOS RCA and Mullard tubes in mine. They really helped open up the tone.

  • @sirpaisley

Oops...that's me (giantrobot9000) under my new account!! I'm trying to seperate them, one for hard rock/metal and the other for blues/jazz/etc.

  • @bnburns2000 put a TO20 output transformer and a couple of 12AY7 in V1 and V2.

I did that and the amp is tons of fun now. The foot pedal sucks too. I replaced that too.

    TONSIER OF FUN NOW!

  • Wow! I have to watch that again!!

  • This man has had a profound impact on my playing and approach to expression on the guitar. Seems like a great soul too. Another great voice in the world of music.

  • Jim, you're an amazing player!

  • This dude is the man.

  • i thought that telecaster had a rosewood neck but its just dirty as hell

  • @PopExpo no dirty buddy ....no more vernish on it make it dark

  • You sir, are amazing!

  • I thought the guy had parkinson

  • @htennek2k ...You meant "Parkinson'S", by any chance? Methinks you might should get a checkup yourself.

  • What About a compairation to à fender concert

  • You can learn, Pepper, the song he's playing at 2:36...on his website....

  • wow

  • Man the sound! the way this guy just makes it sing , i am truly amazed. Now if I could just afford the Princeton R.R.

  • Princeton Reverb the best sounding amp ever created my human kind!

  • i think jim is one of the greatest guitarist ever and hardly anybody even knows him. very underrated.

  • One question...Why didn't they mic it!?

  • Superb tone, but a little too much reverb to my taste. cheers, jim!

  • whats the song from 42 secs to 52 secs?

  • best amp ive ever heard

  • I think he could do the same sounds with a Champ xd!

    It's not the PR

  • My name is Kelton Swade - Come visit my website or Facebook and see the best relic guitars available on the planet! I have several in stock for you to choose from. I also do custom build guitars so let me build your dream guitar...you will be 100% satisfied! Just ask Vince Gill, Robben Ford and Keith Urban for starters!

  • Great stuff!

  • great stuff!

  • Beautiful tones and great playing which highlights the quality of the legendary sound of Fender Amps specially the tremolo and the spring reverb

  • I always plug my amp in and turn it on with the cover still on too... (0:32)

  • What a great guy! I feel the same way about Fender.

  • I'll have to buy this amp and forget the blues jr or Super Champ XD

Don't know what I have to sell to get the extra money

  • @PF1964 This is a cool amp, but if you don't need the reverb, check the Ampeg J-20 wich is phenomenal.

The Blues Junior is not a bad amp anyway (the Mexican made ones, I had an USA made Jr and it was very disapointing).

  • I feel like I'm lookin' at a Christmas tree...a symbol of "goodness." How apropos...

  • How do you crank an amp?

  • @PF1964 'cranked' with the volume/gain on full.

  • I can't crank it because of my neighbours!

Can you crank an amp by putting its volume on full and slow down the guitar volume, or to crank an amp you have to pu both on max volume?

  • @PF1964 This is rehashed old technology, from the time when distortion was a thing to avoid. So, you can only get distortion if you turn it way up, same as in the 60s. Then amp manufacturers realised that players actually wanted the distortion & created preamp stages. So you won't get bluesy overdrive at quiet volumes.

  • I can't crank it because of my neighbours!

Can you crank an amp by putting its volume on full and slow down the guitar volume, or to crank an amp you have to put both on max volume?

  • @PF1964 you 'crank' the amp by turning it up, doesnt matter what guitar settings you use. That is, the amp is cranked as long as the volume is above 50% or so, when it really starts to open up and bring out its character.

  • Is it worth the extra money compared to the fender Blues Junior?

    What do you think

  • @PF1964 That's like comparing a steak to a spam dinner. The Blue Junior is probably a better bet if you're trying to stay warm and need a good amp to light on fire though. At least it won't be missed, not to mention you might be able to blow it up just by playing it.

  • Is he just playing straight into that Princeton RI? very nice amount of sweet crunch! Must be pretty much cranked to 7-10. Makes me think of Roy Buchanans sound, or Mike Bloomfield on the first Paul Butterfield Blues Band album.

  • this guy's music is so darn interesting

  • 1:48....... hit me pretty hard

wow, i thought i was getting somewhere on the instrument

well at least i have something to look forward to if i live to be master yodas age

  • that Tele is the tits

  • I had to go get my telecaster out after watching this video.

  • That improv section at 6:20 is blissful.

  • thank you for sharing your time, your talent, and your music ;-)

  • the princeton sounds incredible, i wonder how it compares with the deluxe reverb.

  • this guy makes me wanna get a telecaster

  • Lots O' guitar pickers out there Jim Campilongo is an artist. just humbling...

  • What a player- superb! Oh and the amp sounds good too.

  • Comment removed

  • great tele, great amp, but most importantly, incredible player!

  • I want one but people say buy a original...

  • Usually .... Usually I just play on 10.. XD

  • Man, you play great. I can't believe how well you play despite your M.S.

  • Classy and extremely talented - rare these days.

  • your guitar also has a lot to do with it of course.

  • Turn on the "transcribe audio beta" (cc) feature and the service actually tries to transcribe the music into words. The first song translates as "I'm time...the and the...me...I...mm-hm...aaa...man...it....very...the man. I'd have to agree, Jim Campilongo is the man.

  • Does anyone know the name of the song right at the beginning or is it just improv?

I am just melting away when I hear it....I checked many Campilongo songs but couldn´t find it...

  • Hi guys!

Do you know what mic is the best to take sound from this amp?

    Thanx!

  • He certainly has created a feel that is his own, the guitar and amp are great but we are hearing his unique mastery of the guitar.

  • How many princetons did they sell with this video? Really good!

  • I want one of these amps.

  • Man! That fretboard is saturated with some serious years of goo!

  • I love how he acts so nervous and quaint. Such a cool guy.

  • beautiful.

  • Jim Campilongo is worthy of this great amp!

  • "I have to admit, I have to go to reverbs anonymous." Nice guy, great guitarist. My wife and I caught him on Monday night at the Living Room and were moved by his artistry. Unique persona, stunning musician, budding salesman. All good things to Mr. Campilongo. I hope it all comes together for him in a big way. He deserves it.

  • i personally think the stuff he plays are incredibly technical ... sure they are not fast but there is so much subtlety and finesse that most players can never get right ....

  • I have a Princeton Reverb Amp for sale. PM me if interested. circa 1965

  • These amps are much better than a blues junior. Even without the 'vibrato' the reverb is tube driven and it has a tube rectifier so you get the sag which is lovely. Depends on what kind of music you play though I suppose - the blues junior has a solid state rec, bit more clean headroom, but the princeton is a prince among amps. Its small but it is a SERIOUS bit of top notch kit. If you are nifty with your guitars volume control you can bypass the need for any overdrive pedal at all.

  • i agree i love reverb,

  • @Devilsavage Troll

  • @Devilsavage One should not confuse subtlety for lack of skill.

  • @Devilsavage but, bro, you should totally see him shred 'tallica riffs on his charvel, dude. i think he brought out the vintage tele because he didn't want to damage his hair metal axe, knaw'm sayin'?

  • thats the grimiest maple neck i have ever seen!

    nice sounds.

  • @pomod amen to both!! Haha at first I thought it was a rosewood board.

  • better than the blues jr? any suggestions out there? i'm looking for a tube amp, but am undecided, i want a fender but am not sure yet, thx for any input

  • @arnyarny77 In my opnion this amp is far and above a Blues Junior, but costs a bit more as well.

  • makes me want to throw away my pedalboards

  • extremely tasteful playing

  • Jim visiting our school on turku, Finland :D. I like that guy, he's good guitarist.

  • Beautiful Sounds from that guy's guitar and amp. Very soothing. I would love to own one of those amps.

  • in a way he sucks. he seems to play a bit arbitrary notes. but then again he's got character. weird. lol

  • Great amp, great video. Seems like such a nice guy.

  • huge frets - look bigger than 6100s even.

  • @ 1:49. sounds like a train is coming through that room!

  • Wow, beautiful music.

  • I can't tell if thats a rosewood with black inlays or a really dark maple.

  • @lesshowerrings just a really worn and aged maple probably one of his 1st teles

  • need some more reverb!

  • james bond............... im sold!

  • This cat is amazing.

  • 'You know, this amp sounds pretty good'

  • Damn this dude is too cool for school. Damn tone for days and amazing original style!? I'm amazed every time I see his vids, I wish I could go see him in person. One of these days.

  • 4.03 That great Campilongo sound.

  • Wow!

  • A very original guitarist .

Did anyone knows if he ever worked for Tom Waits ??

  • As far as I know, he hasn't played with Tom Waits, but they'd be a great match. I'd love to hear it.

  • The cat you're thinking of who has worked a lot with Waits is Marc Ribot

  • A christmas tree man !!

  • Best guitar vid on the 'tube.

And its supposed to be just an amp demo... !

    Gentleman Jim.

    Cool - as. ;)

  • @MrTubeyWoobey

He's the man, I ordered some instruction cd's from his website and got into a real nice email chat with him, mostly about music, also just shooting the breeze. He is so down to earth. A wonderful human being.

  • Hi,

above all the trouble in the world, Love can live in this sound...i think my live is not more so long, but i happy to hear this tones....greetings out of germany...

  • Can't wait to see Jim's signature guitar

  • Anyone know the opening song?

  • @uscgpunk

I believe it's called "Pepper", from Jim's album "Heaven Is Creepy".

  • Very Roy Buchanan "Sweet Dreams" inspired.

  • i think its table for one.

  • jim's playing tells amazing stories. stark images, beautiful melodies with a very "artistic" touch

  • I like his playing! much better than things he says.

  • Great playing!

  • Reverb Anonymous!

    hahahahahahaha..

  • if you have too many...u should give me one

  • Are those frets original, or is it a refret with (much) wider frets ? (see at 7;00),

  • what is he using for a pick?

  • Bad ass tele slinger, Jim you're amazing.

  • It's a '58 Tele with the original maple neck.

  • it's a 59 toploader. Fender will release a Jim Campilongo signature tele in january. just 50 guitars running, exact replica of the original. I saw the prototype and it's just awesome!

  • This guy shouldn't be carrying in his amp . This guy needs a roadie! Truly great. I just stumbled on this guy after hearing about Little Willies.Very hip cat.

  • It's a 50-year-old guitar.

  • Comment removed

  • I know what you mean. There were times that I thought I was looking at a rosewood fretboard Tele.

  • I'm not sure what type of wood that is, it is more red and 'fiery' than rosewood, obviously darker than maple and lighter than ebony.

  • Very good tone, a lot of that is the player and the guitar too !!!!

  • holy fuck what a nice tele

  • 3.15

  • What song is that around 2:37 in?

  • hey mate! the name of that song is "pepper" and it is from jim's album "heaven is creepy"....and it certainly is! :)

  • i said it once before and i'll say it again. fender needs to come out with a standalone reverb and tremolo unit in one. based of the blackface amps of the 60s

  • Weber makes the Tore Vibe, which is exactly that.

  • son of a bitch at 1:52 that shit sounds like a train!!!!! thats sick. old dudes always know how to play

  • what a class act.

  • I just bought this amp.

The reverb and tremolo are so fluid and warm.

This is a great demo. Jim's CD "Heaven is Creepy" is a fantastic.

"Monkey in a Movie" is a great song...the lick where he works the tuner at 4:40 is from that song.

Jim has a unique style. How often cn you say that someone has a unique style?

    Nice stuff!

  • No offense, but if he'd turn down the reverb we could actually hear what the amp sounds like. Right now all we know is what the reverb sounds like.

  • Beautiful playing, Jim. This is the first I've heard of you. Don't know how I could have missed you, being from San Francisco.

I just hit Amazon and purchased several of your recordings. Just wanted to let you know that YouTube is working for you, and to encourage others to buy your music.

Keep going ... we need more real music like yours in the world.
