If Nickelback covered one of the Hips songs it would probably sell 20 million instantly...hmm, could create a reawakening of people discovering the Hip who are unfortunate enough not to have ever known them.
The Hip have a warehouse in Kingston Ontario where they have every live show recorded in Audio since almost when they started. I don't know how much video they have. They do have 4 special order live cd's that you can find. They're called 'Live from the Vault', fantastic set of discs
Wow I heard this on a TV special late one night back in JR High...some CBC special. I had it on tape for a long time( held a tape recorder to the tv set) LOL!! and could never find it since. Thank you for posting this
I asked on the hip's website why this song is never played live anymore, or why it was never released. They said they were tired of playing it ,along with other older songs. Too bad, I have always loved this awesome song, and I think it would do well if released. I remember watching this performance on muchmusic when i was 19. I was blown away.
Best Band ever, I cant believe they arent big in the states when shitty ass bands like U2 are big. Thats fine though, its what makes them even more Canadian, Hip are the best rock band in the world!
This song is great, was originally supposed to be on road apples but they left it off, i also have the bootleg version aswell as crackmy spine like a whip, and suzie Q on it, its amazing, Hip are the best ever
Just wanted to know if I could get/download a copy of this show from you or anyone who has it. I'm a big Hip fan from way back. I had this show on a bootleg cassette way back in the day...listened to it a million times....love the Paris of the Maritimes quip.
Other than 'Crack My Spin Like a Whip', this is likely the greatest unreleased Hip tune. If you can get this live bootleg (Misty Moon), do it. It's amazing.
Nope. It has 38 Years Old, Blow At High Dough, Boots or Hearts, Crack My Spine Like a Whip, Fight, Get Back Again, Highway Girl, I'll Believe in You, It's Just As Well, New Orleans Is Sinking, On the Verge, She Didn't Know, Three Pistols, Trickle Down. I have Times Are Passing Us By on two other boots, but I'm not sure the names of them.
what an awesome song! I've had this song from Napster along time ago and now I get to see the video! thank you for sharing.I love the hip and I'm always looking for unreleased songs! again thanks!
they do have a recorded studio version of this song it was actually supposed to be on Road apples, but they left it off, not sure why as it is a great tune
There's an mp3 of a different performance of this song floating around. I think it's a better rendition. There's applause at the end of the recording, so I'm not sure where it's from.
This was always my favourite unreleased Hip song, and I'm glad to see this video up. They sure look funny though. Then again, no one looked good in the '80s.
I understand for personal reasons that this was never released but this is a classic tune! I have a different version and am very grateful that you posted this!

Yeah, a cd of unreleaed songs and how about a few DVD's of past performances like this one at the Misty Moon .
The Hip Live is an experience like no other .... and its a shame that there aren't more live shows available on dvd .
Maybe all the fans should get a petition going and hound them to release this and other shows on dvd and a cd too .

jayr64 2 years ago
Actually, this is only one of many, many unreleased songs that are out there.

Lofty Pines Motel
tthip 2 years ago
actually Lofty Pines Motel is a song off of one of Gord Downie's solo albums
MoultonDrums 2 years ago
Yes Lofty Pines is off of Downie's solo work Coke Machine Glow.
But the unreleased version in the video is performed by The Tragically Hip (minus Paul) three years before the release of that solo record.

That MP3 recording you are talking about is not the entire band - it is only Gord Downie and Paul Langois.
And there is not a video of it.
