thanks you for the great video! I needed to bend some plexi for an old cb radio I have and just couldn't do it. I saw your video and within 5 min had the shape I needed THANK YOU
In the heating and forming process, do you ever encounter problems with fingerprints embedding into the plastic?
I ask because I want to handle the plastic to form around a cylindrical mold, but I hear that fingerprints are an issue (so gloves would probably not work either).
Thanks also for the video. Nice to know I can use a toaster oven instead of dealing with full oven.
@jeriellsworth err, i found a darth vader mask that would be the perfect size for what im making. would i bend the plastic over it? and what would i need to put over the helmet before i start?
This is awesome, thank you so much for putting this video up. I really need this for bending a piece of plastic for my protype for my invention. AWESOME!
May i say first that i think your videos are great and keep them coming...... Im after some help fixing my Williams, T2. The light up plastic skull is looking warn, tired and i wanted to repaint it to make it look fresh and give it new life...... Would you know what i can paint the plastic with ?????
@justincasekazoo I don't see why not. You should be able to do this with anything that gets hot - you just won't have the same control over the heating that you get from a toaster oven, so you'll have to keep pressing the lever down.

I stumbled on you twice today. Once earlier on Instructibles, and now when I searched for forming plexi glass. You are a really neat person.

@head2toepainter The temp is beyond what I can touch with my fingers. Maybe you can roll it on a smooth surface, so it doesn't leave marks.

is it possible to bend acryllic in two planes, like making a half dome, using this, or a normal oven?
dudie5000 1 year ago
@dudie5000 Sure. We used to make negative plywood shapes and press the plexiglass in with gloves. It's a little tricky. You can use a regular oven.
jeriellsworth 1 year ago
@jeriellsworth so, i would make a shape like a bowl, not a ball, then form the plastic in it?

@dudie5000 Do a little searching on vacuum molding. Some of the techniques there might help.

@MrFurtadoc I don't really know what would be the best. I seem to remember on mine it looked like it was really vacuum metalized.

How long does it stay bendable. and how do you hold it when hot?
starwarscary 1 year ago
@starwarscary It depends on the thickness of the plastic. You have 15-20 second work time on this thickness of material.

I have to bend a 10 mm plexiglass 300 cm by 15 cm in a square, that doesn't fit in a toaster oven?
i think i have to start trying with a heating-gun?

Awesome! just what i was looking for

Cool!, do you need to preheat the plexy to remove moisture and prevent bubbles?

Nice.

would'nt it just get brittle and crack up
djfantom205 1 year ago
You can use some baby powder or talcum powder to keep it from sticking to the tray. Old shrinky dinks trick.
