  • who else was brought here by high fidelity?

  • I started playing this song on guitar.as well as ( you don't know ) great music!!

  • Thanks for doing this buddy.

  • this is my favorite video on youtube!! awesome dude!!!

  • Impressive video to this classic.

  • Whoever mixed this did the band an injustice. The right person could have made them a household name.

  • Great video. I dance to this all most every other night when i am high

  • VERY COOL MATE, CHEERS!

  • ...tok, tocka-tocka-tocka, took, tooka-tooka-tooka...

  • this is just fantastic. high five.

  • Thank you so much for the extra work you put in (remastering and visuals) before posting this video, it sounds amazing! There are a lot of videos on You Tube that could use your expertise! All the best :)

  • @EarlofSuave308 Thats very kind of you. cheers! ;)

  • Nice remastering, mate. Very nice! Loving it! Just bought my ticket for Roky's show in Melbourne on March 13th 2012. BOOM!

  • @muzboz cheers bud ;) enjoy the show!

  • one of the coolest songs ever. and I mean EVER.

  • 2 people aren't going to miss me.

  • what if...it didnt happen..so get over it

  • ROCK Out!

  • Wonderful re-mastering! Thanks for putting this up - they had such a clear influence on some of my favourite bands like Spacemen3, and still sound exciting today, 44 years later.

  • great job remastering it, it sounds great!

  • @tamerswan this was 1966, the "F" word wasn't permitted. The MC5 recording in 1969 of "Kick Out The Jams Motherfuckers" was the first I am aware of and even that track was sensored almost immediately and replaced with "Kick Out The Jams Brothers and Sisters"

  • That's it ... It was aired on October 29 1966, "Special Halloween Bandstand", Dick Clark's show, one of the only two remaining "celluloîds" from the 13th Floor Elevators ... Helas ...

  • The opening guitar riffs and "Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww, YEAH!" - - says it all. Thank you Dell for bringing this nearly-lost major threat back to life (in your tv ad for your laptops). What an absolutely gone-nuts, bustin' out for Rosie, headin' for the wall tune! Proof-positive that we were nuts (but fun) back then. Nothing today can touch this. KING TONE! ROKY -- I KNEW you'd make a comeback!

  • Fuck man, I wish I was born in 1940.

  • I discovered thins band today (don't blame me, I'm just 19!) and they're AWESOME!!! :D very good pure rock n roll! love it.

  • I think this would be awesome hearing a live version with this video.

  • i used to live a few houses away from Roky a couple years ago one of the nicest people ive ever met but holy shit man how he has changed...

  • @alexisultragod That's what mental illness and electro shock therapy can do to a person. But it didn't take his spirit--rock on, Roky.

  • This is so good! Job well done!

  • sorry I was going to get back to you on that but for some reason I couldnt see your comment when I went out of my email. Im pretty sure it's from where the action is as im pretty sure there is a longer clip lying around where Dick clark talks to the band. Thanks for the comment

  • @sirPUNKsir There is a longer version. "We're ALL Heads..."

  • @tamerswan the former of course. but if you, as you have done, create a story around the change in lyrics that's your business. ;)

  • just perfect song rock !!!!!!!!!!!!!! rebel 68

  • Nice rework! Great audio!

  • @tamerswan "but what's gonna stop you baby" although your version could be fun :D

  • @sirPUNKsir I just found out, sirPUNKair, the clip is from a Dick Clark show, most likely "Where the Action is". Thanks again. Great clip and audio.

  • Sounds like Them!

  • nice quality on this.

  • You didn't legalize! You didn't legalize!

A cop asked me one time what the word heeded meant.

That just goes to show you that the ones who get to make the decisions are for the most part dull normal.

Anyway my experience in jail was the weirdest, the cops would record themselves saying weird random shit backwords on the intercoms and play it backwards real late at night.

No wonder Roky wants to kick 'em in the nuts!

  • I was lead singer in a Houston group called the Surf Knights in '66. We were on the bill with the Elevators in a show at the Ft Bend Cnty Fair Grounds. Roky had just gotten out of the joint that day for doin somethin stupid. All of a sudden, out of nowhere came, what seemed to be every freakin cop in Texas, bustin thru that place doin a drug raid. Roky was the only one they hauled off.... What a trip!

  • I wish this version was readily available somewhere. For me, you would have to know him to understand and enjoy his music.

  • actually, singer's name is Roky...not Rocky..Erikson.

  • @rowdymax1 who are you referring to with the correction? By he way its "Erickson" ;)

  • @rowdymax1 He, and everybody else, pronounces it "Rocky".

  • man what a haunting sound coming from that jug...kills me every time.

  • Stacey Sutherland was sooo hot.

  • Thank u ever so much!

  • I am now 60 years old , when it first came out . The sound of the group was ahead of the times . It became very fast a stoner sound . Still a very cool sound .

  • Long Live Rock. One of the best pure rock anthems of the 60's.

  • Is there a possible way of me downloading this remastered version?

  • @Devildance1234 there must be some free software out there that does it

  • @sirPUNKsir Do you know the original source of this video? I don't think it's Dick Clark's "Where The Action Is" show, but I could be wrong. The psychedelic flourishes you added to the video, plus the better sound are both outstanding. Great job. If never heard this immortal track sound this good.

  • @Devildance1234 put savetube into google... top result returned is a website that'll let you save the whole vid or just the audio as an mp3.

  • @Devildance1234 Put your cursor on the screen and a pop-up will say "download this video". Download the video, then go to Real Player and burn a audio CD of the video. Sound quality will be excellent.

  • @Devildance1234 Use this program: youtubedownload (dot) altervista (dot) org and choose .mp4. The resulting file is a bit heavy but transparent

  • @Devildance1234 Also look for the Radio Birdman cover. It's pretty darn good also.

  • @mrbrad0022 I recently downloaded it and yes it is badass. It also introduced me to the band and I'm digging a lot of their stuff.

  • yeahh!

  • I love the Elevators. I spent one summer listening to Bull of the Woods and Easter Everywhere. Great band. Thanks for the great vid!

  • great tune.

  • love this good job!

  • I had no idea it was Rocky that sang this song. I was just looking at pictures I took of him playing at the Contintental Club in Austin . gosh I do not even remember the year. early eightysmaybe. The palce was packed and everyone knew the words to all his songs. I was great.

  • It's a treasure.

  • This is fantastic, you did a great job!

  • Congrats for this cool remastered clip mate! I love that!

  • great job - it sounds amazing!

  • did'n know them, came accidentally to them via Dutch punk-band Vopo's (they made a cover of this number, really different. Very nice post, nicely done! Supersixties music!

  • one of the greatest rock songs ever...has all the attitude that rock is about...Should have broken them much much bigger...survive happier today Roky...it's been a long twisted road bro...thanx for the music, and sirPUNKsir...thanx for this great mix and upload!!!

  • "How can you say you miss my lovin,

    when you never needed it?"

    <3

  • VERY nice indeed.....highly underrated.

  • You rock dude. The sound is awesome.

  • Wishful thinking, eh

  • THIS SONG WAS WAY AHEAD OF ITS TIME, I HEARD IT ON THE AM RADIO WHEN IT FIRST CAME OUT.. AFTER ALL THESE YEARS, ITS STILL MY FAVORITE SONG. I DOWNLOADED THIS AND THE AUDIO QUALITY IS GREAT! THANKS sirPUNKsir..

  • Roky is back playing again after many years with mental illness. Getting treatment and sounding great!

  • So long ago, it hurts!

  • the trick is to go to mp3ifier.com to find this mp3.

  • love it wonderful job!

  • love it wonderfull job!

  • great vid sounds excellent good job! love this song!

  • Wow, this recording is amazing! It sounds like its been re-masted? I have this on record and digitally, neither sound this good.

  • @jwm00ner Yup I remastered it from the original record. Would be great to get my hands on the tapes tho! ;)

  • @sirPUNKsir you are amazing!

  • Perfection!!!!!! & unfortunatley 4 roky Back then thats how they "treated" potheads. The cops found a bag of weed in his amp & they took him" away" 2 put it mildly. They thought "potheads'were insane&,They were against The devils music so the pigs in texas decided 2 make an example out of Roky. But if u watch his new documentary on n-flix,u will c his brother took control of him & got that man back 2gether.What a wonderful brother! No disrespect, but his mom held him back from help.U will c.Poor rok

  • Bad luck, yes, and the fact that Texas isn't exactly the most progressive state in the United States.

And, by the way, I heard that among those therapies performed on Roky was electroshock therapy (nasty, nasty). Problem is I couldn't find verification on that. Is there some truth to the claim?

  • @Israfvel As far as I know. Yes. You should watch the Documentary called (strangely enough) you're gonna miss me

  • Thank you Punk Sir! I love your posts!

  • @Algydyce most kind of you ;)

  • Rocky simply ROCKS ! ! !

  • I loved Count Five, The Standels, The Seeds, etc. when I was a kid growing up in the 60's--I didn't hear about 13th Floor Elevators until the early 70's when I started collecting records, but listening to all this music on youtube again I can see how I became a first wave punk in the 1970's--I must say I love this music as much today as I did then.

  • ROKY !

  • WOW, where was I when this was happening? LOL I thought I knew all the great music from that era. Guess not. That was awesome!

  • Roky is amazing on this clip, sounding like a sort of cross between Layne Staley and Bob Dylan. And check out drummer John Ike Walton at 0:44, he looks like he's tripping his head off. Great job Sir, and thank you for posting.

  • Really nice job on this one!

  • Grooooooooooooovy man!

  • Terrific!

  • great work on the vid

  • too cool. gimme' a pull off that jug!

  • That is my friend's dad. His passion for music and talent was indeed passed on to her.

  • @michellelynn1975 and your friends father is?

  • Roky

  • @michellelynn1975 Well his talent goes without saying!. All the best to your friend I hope she has a lot of success!

  • They were a fantastic band, and about the only Texas band that didnt rely on FUZZ.

  • Are we on an elevator?

  • Thanks for the trip, Dad

  • Looks and sounds fantastic...Favourited!

  • Nootaramus......Great comment!!!!!Great story,thank you for sharing that.Must have been a very cool time

  • I saw the elevators in baytown tx at the safari club one night- I was 15- they had a funky colored wesson oil on a projector for a light show- I talked to the jug player- tommy hall while they were on break- he asked me if I wanted get high and I went out back and smoked a joint with him and someone else- first time I ever got high. then the music kinda made more sense especially the jug- an amazing band. then and now.

  • @nootaramus what else did he let you smoke?

  • Best reworking of this classic since a dour faced John Cusack looked mournfully out to the audience at the start of High Fidelity. Well done, sir.

  • It only took 44 years for me to know they ever existed. Boy, awesome sound, just awesome!!!! Now, I can't get enough. Great documentary on Roky Erickson's life, but I just forgot name of it.

  • @bklynpaulie "you're gonna miss me" ;)

  • Thanks!!!

  • @bklynpaulie Such agreat band and groovy songs. The guitar sound and Rokys vocals are wild and inspiring. I love this music and it's spirit. I am really liking the jug aswell. At first I didnt get it but it definitely adds something strange and different to it.

I can find the version with him and Billy Gibbons, but what happened to the other one on youtube? I still got the audio of the missing one and the punch that one had I created. I learned from the master, my dear friend. --Jeff
