I'm an electrician studying to be an electric engineer. I'm also a renewable energy activist. I'm a huge fan of the smart grid. But this video made me feel like i was being molested by a line transformer haunted by Barney. The smart grid is actually an extremely good idea. The whole idea behind the smart grid is not to collect every detail of data about how you're using a damn light bulb.

Without control there is Anarchy - in Anarchy only those with the best weapons survive to take everything from those weaker. Governments all over the world try to give medical care to the weak and the poor. Without governments all over the world to help, millions more would die in Haiti from starvation after that earthquake. Take your closed-minded thoughts elsewhere.

@ExposedHeads - You have an innate ability to see your personal issues over the issues of the population as a whole. As a moral citizen I feel that I have the freedom to do mostly anything I want in order to have a good life. I do think that there is too much corporate control driving up cost to consumers, however, that is something that even a big government like ours cannot seem to control.

cont... With the "Public OPTION" for healthcare, more and more people will be able to afford the same type of healthcare that only the middle/upper class can afford now. Of course I hate the fact that some of those lazy people that work the welfare system will have better care but I am that those people that actually try to work but cannot afford healthcare will have a more affordable option.

I have relatives in Canada that laugh at fools like you that have first hand experience in gov. controlled heath. Their costs always go up because of heavy union demands, they continue to close hospitals, and recently have opened to allow some private healthcare to set up business.

The very reason health cost is so high fuels Democraps - trial lawyers, taxes that get passed to consumers, not allowing competition, ...

You obviously received no business education in your union government school.

@jonnycat27 Without government there are community laws, which can be extremely varied. Without indoctrination, there is no control. Without control, there is natural law. Yes, natural law favors the strong and adept. Anarchy means there is no governing body, this does not mean there are no protectors nor rules.

A government is capable of great good, and great greed. Never ignore one in favor of the other. The real closed-mindedness is to assume the government does only good.

Ok, I admit, I did not listen to the whole video--something about a transformer talking to me like I am a 5 year old turns me off. The idea that the whole damn grid of America is going to be all interconnected and the power co is going to program my thermastat and my appliance will decide when they will turn on, oh please. Viruses, hackers, and govt ineptitude is going to really cause a lot of problems we dont have now. I rather build nuclear powr plants than to rely on wind and a sunny day.

Some people are just idiots that always think the evil government is out to get them. The government if made of people... same as any of us... they just go to work every day, some try to do a good job, some try to do as little as possible to earn a paycheck. Sound familiar?

This is how the ignorant and uninformed see government. They can't fathom the bigger picture that the politicians are painting - the intrusion into the private lives of the citizens, the growing reliance on government, etc.

The current US government is not made of people - it is made of a few power-players that USE people to accomplish their long-range goals.

Try digging a little deeper - beyond CNN and NBC 'cause they won't tell you the full story. Heck, they're probably as stupid.

Well, aside from the fact that this is a strange video, what makes you think that the "government" doesn't know everything about you already? Do "they" really need a smart grid to turn off your power if you're not pulling your weight? Smart Grid tech is a good idea. You folks are being paranoid. Time to take yourselves off the grid altogether if you think "they" are after you. Humanity has gotten along just fine with oil lamps and wood burning stoves for heating and cooking for many years.
