  • great video thank you for posting. an amazing aircraft.

  • Did i see that correctly? Were they ground firing the cannon with the plane on jacks? Recoil shook the plane pretty good. You would think you could just pull a breaker or bypass a squat switch to put the plane in "air" mode. Either way, the Mig21 is a good looking old bird, I've always loved the Russian cockpit colors. Great video and thanks for not covering up the jet noise with music.

  • Beatiful,bellissimo!

  • Thanks for not killing the video with music .Great Video .

  • My dad used to fly these in Finnish Air Force long time ago.

    Shit, this is beautiful one!

  • My aircraft of choice when I play Ace Combat: Assualt Horrizon.

  • Excellent video! MiG21 was and still is a superb and capable aircraft.

  • Very nice! It makes me feel like a kid again :)

  • The interior of the plane looks horrible. I wouldn´t like to die in such an ugly coffin...

  • You could also cmpare it with Saab 35 Draken. Draken is more versatile though.

  • This is really an icon of the military aviation!!!

And he almost flew in the Brazilian Air Force (F-7 Airguard, chinese version).

  • maybe its comparable to f 100 sabre or f 101 voodoo similar cockpit and first operational radar system to track a enemies aircraft a good speed low armement and a lot of power

  • I can just imagine a juicy fat F-4 in the cross hairs!

  • @canamwing

Probably the last thing you see before his wingman sends a sidewinder up your ass and everything goes dark and silent

  • @radreader01 Oh yes! It takes two to operate that trash can.

  • Also, unfortunately for the first Russian test pilots of Mikoyen-Gurevich, the Mig-21 (First Production) had the low speed handling comparable to a small third world country, making take-off and landing quite nerve shredding

  • I have had the privilege to have been in the Nav cockpit in a Mig-21 (Two-Seater). It is the most violent and exciting thing you can do without being arrested. God Bless Mikoyen-Gurevich

  • Sexy.

  • WTH was happening with those pops/explosions?

  • @JULESRULES9969 I believe they are testing the cannon, I might be wrong but thats what it might be....

  • Mig-21 really is the classic fighter, and certainly an icon of an era. The bis variants still seem to be in vogue in African air forces, so the design has been in active service now for 60 years. Amazing.

  • This is not an ariplane, this is rocket.

  • Hello did the Czech air force use MiG-21bis before?

  • I do like the MIG-21 for some odd reason. It's a beautiful airplane.

  • so is this thing comparable to the F-4 ?

  • @sedmoagalnikful The MiG-23 is comparable to an F-4 this is more comparable to an F-100 Super Sabre, in my opinion.

  • @HerrHIVEMIND I don't care - the MIG-21 is a man's plane! This is a beast and a lady in one. I just like it's lines!

  • @HerrHIVEMIND The MiG-21 and the F-104 were designed with the same strategic thinking in mind. The MiG-21, of course, outclassed the F-104 in every aspect. Upgraded MiG-21's even hold their owns against F-15's.

  • @HerrHIVEMIND Actually, the aircraft that equaled the flight capabilities and design philosophy of the MiG-21 were the F-8 Crusader and the F-5 Tiger.

  • @penguinskywalker I figured the SU-17 more comparable to the F-8 but youre right about the F-104 and the MiG-21 as far as speed and climb. I only figured the F-100 because of the manueverability. But the F5 has that covered. Interesting. It takes at least 2 aircraft of the time in the western inventory to compare to such a single, and wonderful, soviet fighter. I love MiG's. :D

  • @HerrHIVEMIND Mig21 is far better than f4.Vietnam war shows it.As well as Romanian upgraded versions of mig21 now.

  • @sedmoagalnikful F4 was much worse in aerodynamics, but had a more advanced electronics.

  • @sedmoagalnikful I read a article once where a retired Airline Capt. & F-4 jock got a opertunity to try a MIG 21. He preferred the MiG 21 :)

  • @sedmoagalnikful F-4 is MIG killer

  • @sedmoagalnikful 1966: US claimed 6 MiG-21s destroyed; North Vietnam claimed 7 F-4 Phantom IIs and 11 F-105 Thunderchiefs killed by MiG-21s. "wikipedia" I thing ... yes

  • @sedmoagalnikful

    Better

  • everyone i meet say the mig-21 is hideous, but i think it's rather flash. far from the ugliest aeroplane.

  • the gyro gunsight look's like it was ripped off from P-51.

  • what´s that @ 0:36 ?

  • @Suspect114 I think It's the radar display.

  • i have heard their sound in real life, its like bomb blast on top of your house when ever they passes

  • @idrismetalcore yeah tell me about it, 2 of these bombed my town back in '91, they flew so low that we had broken windows from the sound

  • @specnaz157 well i first heard when our government bought 2 of them from russia, it cost some million US dollars and they were testing their speed, on news it said there could be loud noise turbulance but to stay calm, i heard them twice, it vanishes in the air all you can hear its explosive sound and that its , u cant see it

  • @idrismetalcore yutub/L-mNaL-hZxk , this was aero meeting in my town, now Croatian AF use them, at 1:19 you can see miG-21 and hear a high speed low pass

  • because of this plane my country save from invader!!!

  • Vacuum Tubes any one??

  • top speed? in mph

  • @iloveconcord 1385 mph mach 2,05. :)

  • Good 'ol boy crew chief Bubba Ray at 2:25 in his overall's launching his jet. Nice. Real professional looking ground crew ya got there. Lol. Jk, jk.

Love the Mig-21. One of the best looking jets ever to fly.

  • BEAUTIFUL...

  • Which base is it, please?

  • Man I love that plane, they should sell them in America to civilians. I would buy it just to hear it start up.

  • I love old soviet tech. It may be garbage by modern standards, but it´s friggin' cool.

  • Not exactly beautiful, but sexy as all hell. I love that plane

  • They are still being sold... 950 grand check aircraftbargains

  • awesome for CZ ....... KC

  • A Vietnamese had wiped out 9 MiG

  • my grandpa had one :D

  • Beautiful aircraft for her age, there are two of them rotting away in a hangar next to mine. It's a shame, but there built like tanks so it'll take more than age for her to rot away. Great video.

  • very cool video. I volunteer at the Tennessee Museum of Aviation in the states and they have a mig 21 and a mig 17 their not airworthy though

  • @NocredRS Oh, stop admiring yourself in the mirror again. LOL

  • Comment removed

  • This video Btw Rocks! Thanks for posting it

  • What a great film, especially the cockpit with the plane powered up,a rare sight indeed! Thanks so much for putting this film about these remarkable aircraft up, it's nice to get such an up close look at something so rare for most people!

  • Excellent aircraft,

"Soviet" aviation hardware traditionally has been and still is mocked by the west.

However, technically it is very good by being simple and reliable.

For example think about the "Bear" which is still in active service since the 1950s!

Floriańska 6 (British national, Polish resident)

  • @florianska6 I think Our B-52 isn't much newer than the "Bear" so You're not alone. Good designs that fit their function and are adaptable will always be around, especially if the price is good.

  • @Oldbmwr100rs The B 52 is older than the bear. The bear is awesome in the fact that the soviets didn't have the jet engine technology to get that kind of range back then. So to compensate they made the fastest propeller plane every built! the bear can fly at 582 mph but its range is 2000 less miles than the B 52.

  • @Lumotaku Love the bear. I think it's really found it's role in maritime patrols. :)

  • Still I need some explanation. That radar made strange things. The prep for take off and ammo retrieval was well understood.

  • needs a paint job!!

  • Best aviation clip i have ever seen, no some stupid overused music to ruin it!!

  • Very interesting and clever jet!!

  • It´s a turbine with wings.

  • Gr8 plane I want one so bad

  • hermoso avion

  • I love this plane, I know I can't own any of them I love it since I was kid, Till now my heart beats faster when I see it in videos & pictures :( I wish I could fly in a mig-21 someday in my life.

  • @Artaxeus yeah !

most lovely and in the same time evil looking plane ever...

  • @Artaxeus

You CAN buy these for civilian use, found one up for sale today, only thing your not able to have is the Nuke interface package, all the switches still light up and such, but it will not work. Saw it on "trade a plane" for a phenomenal amount of money.

  • @Artaxeus one for sale for 95,000 definately cheep considering modern jets are over a million

  • @Artaxeus i wish your dreams come True !

  • @Artaxeus Well, these are being sold a bit cheap nowadays to civilian public, in some years they might be expensiver or cheaper!

  • Comment removed

  • @Artaxeus They're not that expensive, $50'000 USD, and that's without much time after overhaul!

  • nice vid. i live in wilmington, de and saw one fly over the other day while working on the river. very rare to see around here haha. almost couldn't believe it.

  • @MANdroid81 I work at the air port its amazing to hear that plane go. We are in class some weekends and the whole building shakes. Very cool! I think they are going to have another air show in a couple years make sure you come!

  • amazing

  • Awesome!

  • Truely a legend!

  • Best plane that ever flown the skies.

  • @Tux1892 and its not*, not no.... DUMB FUCK!

  • @Tux1892 oh no he changed one letter.... shut the fuck up and wash your panties faggot boy

  • 1:26 to 1:40 orgasmic sound!

  • What are those explosions?

  • Great video document ! Really very nice made! Thanks for posting.

  • i love this plane ;) Russian power rulezzz :) greetings from Poland :)

  • What are those explosions at 4:25?

  • @alexsuchapimp They are test-firing the guns. Mig-21s are armed with a 23mm cannon in addition to their missile armament. Those explosive sounds are from the gun firing.

  • @alexsuchapimp its not explosion the mig-21 just ambush =)

  • I love mig 21 its beautiful =)

  • Jsou to nádherné stroje, bohužel daleko za zenitem.

  • This plane rocks!

  • when it starts the engine

    you'll shit bricks

  • Missing this girl. She deserved her wings. Must have been amazing to fly.

  • @HerrHIVEMIND The cannon was included but was confiscated by the US Gov't. . We pulled the Phazotron Face-cup radar out and rebalanced with batteries. I had never seen the HUD, target display, or radar display until I saw this video. FANTASTIC!

  • The ground crew handlers, are overalls their uniform for the czech air force?

  • Awsome vid man.It's a live legend.

  • Thanks for sharing! The 21 has THE sexiest profile of any aircraft I've ever seen. I think it's the tail that does it for me. Thanks again, great vid.

  • @HerrHIVEMIND Couldn't fly until FAA-modded all instruments from metric, (they wouldn't give us N-numbers) drop-tanks welded on forever subsonic, and it only cost $80,000.US. Seat was left live as a lifesaving device, but sweat poured down our faces as we removed the rocket-charge with the help of a Polish and Russian interpreter. Net result = chained-down full-throttle only.no-flight, fun engine noise and airshow trophy. Better to have a Cessna 206.

  • beauty...thank you

  • a modern flight computer and thrust vectoring could come in use for this old bird

  • 3:55

  • Very good video, nice insight into an old soviet icon.

Thanks for taking the time to make it and put it on youtube.

  • A truly remarkable piece of engineering. I wouldn't ever want to use the gun though, not enough ammo to even fire it for one full seccond. De-rate the rate of fire and it'd be awesome.

  • Thanks for posting this. One thing I just thought of though; Mig 15,17,19,21,23,27,29... all the numbers are odd.

  • There is a gripen on the runway at 3:24. Right after the take off of the 2 MiG-21s.

  • Nice video. Russians always did make nice aircraft, like US and Russian aircraft both, like the F4 for its armament and the MIG 21 for its looks and performance.

  • ↓傑作戦闘機Mig21を馬鹿にするのは許さないぞ!!

  • This junk belongs to museum

  • @Tux1892 Thanks for being so polite. >: / I meant nothing by the way I spelled it.

Protip: Please start checking the chemical content of your breakfast cereal and anything else you consume. Your attitude is probly the result of some sort of conflict or a sour tummy.

  • @HerrHIVEMIND its spelled probably....

  • @HerrHIVEMIND is MIG-21 are still in use in the Czech Republik, they wont stand a chance in hell against anything now.

  • A legendary piece of machine!

  • very typical to fly this machine ....

  • filthy communist junk

  • @matthewtitans moronic junky

  • why were these Fishbed's fully armed? there the Czech's doing live combat exercises?

  • かっこよすぎww

    エンジン始動時の高周波音が最高

  • oh my god....the sound at 1:30 is glorious

  • the AK-47, the T55 and the mig 21. all three are the mass produced legends representing soviet dominence of the mid cold war years. i love them all =)

  • It was the queen of skies in cold war when the sabers were in the sky and is still operating in many of the worlds forces!! Long live Mig 21

  • best looking fighter jet of all time

  • Want your own MiG-21MF ?

Auction running in NZ for one =)

    Under 1973 Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21MF Fighter Jet

  • my fav

  • Great plane!!!!!!!!!

  • Fine looking bird. Would the Starfighter have been the nearest US equivalent?

  • no krása :) very pretty

  • Perhaps the best Mig 21 video ever. Great filmmaking. Love the intro with the instruments

and radar functions. Great plane. Thanks for posting!

  • if use Longer RANGE Missile. The Novator K-100 is a Russian air-to-air missile designed as an "AWACS killer" at ranges up to 300–400 km (160-210 mi)

  • NOTHING like a rubber-facecup Phazotron radar! But W/O those drop tanks, you BETTER BE ON FINAL 40 minutes after takeoff! A FRIEND BOUGHT ONE FOR just $80G - from Poland! 700 hrs on the airframe, just 70 on the engine! We pulled that HUGE old radar and balanced it back with batteries- no start-cart necessary! GREAT design! Only a few sizes of screws & bolts, phat tires for grass fields, AND EVERYTHING IMPORTANT RAN DOWN THAT 'SPINE". State Dept. stole our 23-mm cannon & left the seat ARMED!

  • @Crashman2 The only thing better than flying fast aircraft is owning them :-) How is maintenance on your friends plane and how fast has he gone?

  • @rowekmr Couldn't fly until FAA-modded all instruments from metric, (they wouldn't give us N-numbers) drop-tanks welded on forever subsonic, and it only cost $80,000.US. Seat was left live as a lifesaving device, but sweat poured down our faces as we removed the rocket-charge with the help of a Polish and Russian interpreter. Net result= chained-down full-throttle only. and fun noise and airshow trophy. Better to have a Cessna 206.

  • @Crashman2 Thanks for the reply sorry to hear about the red tape and restrictions. I hope your friend still enjoys flying it though, I would hate to think a Cessna 206 would be better for blasting through the sky!

  • @Crashman2 The Polish actually sold it to you WITH the cannon? =O

  • @TheCrazyFinn They sure did, and threw in a belt of 23mm ammo too. The US Gov't took it away on import, as violating some Arms Control law. In THIS video, I see the weapons systems powered up for the first time. GREAT!

But the FAA left it to US to figure out how to safe the ejection seat. We had to call in an expert who could read both Polish and Russian.

  • best looking plane when airborne

  • good

  • why is there a rad counter inside?

  • @stefaan10111992 Guess! Hint: it's ALWAYS slung under a hardpoint- or you're flying THRU the particles! But the '21 is/was rarely used other than as a point--defense interceptor, in which role it is still is OUTSTANDING! .

  • ko bi reko da ovo leti

  • I like mig 21s Me262s, F4 and F-14. Those are all cool looking planes. Especially if painted well. God old miltary harware kicks ass.

  • @wulfshelmut Well said

  • very nice :)

    thx for the video :)

  • Great video! A+ work

  • I love how the air intake is situated on the front of the plane. Truly awesome

  • the ak-47 of the air

  • In Canada students learn about an interceptor aircraft made in Canada called the Avro Arrow which was supposedly "light-years ahead of its time" but got scrapped during prototype phase. I stood up in class and said "the Mig-21 was by far the best aircraft of the era, let alone century, so stop with this Canada-producing-good-weapons bullshit". I was sent home for 3 days but it was worth it!

  • The best fighter of its era!

  • We tend to laugh at the MiG-21, but it was built as a cheap, high speed, all weather interceptor. Just because something is cheap doesn't mean it sucks as we learned in Vietnam. Remember that while the Raptor and Typhoon outclass the Fishbed, those fighters are still pretty rare.

  • what's the purpose for putting a look a like arrow at the head of the plane near the pilot?

  • i think its like an antenna. its like sonar

but i might be wrong so ask somebody else

  • I love these no nonsense soviet machines

  • A man I have the privaledge of knowing, shot one of these down in 1970 during 'Nam with his F4j ending a 2 year period when the US navy had no confirmed kills. He was also the first graduate from the Top Gun school.

The man? J.E. Beaulier VF-142 the Ghost Riders.

  • one of the best looking fighter jets ever made in my book, classic lines ! regardless of its performance variables.

  • The Powerfull Proud To be A Scotland Russian Urrah!

  • why does the mig 21 have that little point on its nose?

    that metal rod?

does anyone know? ive always wondered that

  • @hobosown

That is speed sensor - based on measuring ongoing air pressure

  • i love this beautiness, called MiG-21

    from CHILE with cheers :)

  • the mig's always continue to impress me

  • lots of ufo like sounds

  • THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS! I've always loved the look of the Mig-21 -- full of no-nonsense, almost feral aggression... Nice to see the cannon tests as well! Great video.

  • i like this vid and miG 21... greeting from croatia

  • very nice!

  • Gorgeous and mean looking!!!

  • I've read about US F-14 pilots who flew with Croation MIG-21s during eastern european exercises, the American pilots respected the 21s from what they saw. The Croations, along with the Czech, keep their MIG 21s in impeccable condition.
