  • It's a bit of a letdown to see that so many close-up landscapes aren't and weren't real in Jackson's movies, there is no way around it of course and in fact it shows how much work and thoughts are going into these films, but it kind of takes you away from the actual experience and makes you realise that it's not real when you finally see it on the big screen.

    Although I'm even more amazed through that about the successful work they did on LotR to make it look so real.

  • @OregonCM I saw Avatar at the movies. It was ok but it just doesn't have that feeling that LOTR has. LOTR feels like an extended family. And with The Hobbit, it is going to be the same but with some new faces! This long wait will be worth it! :)

  • @2010Nsync I agree! Avatar was good looking but it was a shallow experience, and didn't have the heart and soul of the LOTR movies. One of the reasons why so many love the LOTR films (particularly myself), is because it was like you were watching a family in an epic quest, and we had a connection with them. All the relationships between the characters felt so genuine and real, and they were because the actors were really close with each other. I hope we get the same feeling from the Hobbit.

Tolkien was one of the greatest geniuses of the 20th Century and Jackson is the best person to visually portray his words.

    In fact the Lord of the Rings trilogy was and still is superior to Avatar.

    It had a bigger budget, but stretched to show a larger world with an even more epic scope. It had a more deeper, complex world to portray, created by the life & essence of Tolkien compared to Cameron's mere childhood fantasy. A perfect balance between CGI & grit reality.

    I think The Hobbit will remind us what the real frontrunner on the magnificence of cinema was & always had been.

  • @AspergianMind I think the Tolkien world is great as well. But I'm not going to agree about the superiority. Each is different. Obviously the story on Tolkien's part is far more complex but the visuals in Avatar are still spectacular. However, I do agree in a sense that a better plot allows the viewer to be drawn to the world and therefore, make it more appealing.

  • @AspergianMind Well I think comparing a romance scifi film to a fantasy film isn't really ideal. They cover completely different problems and are portrayed from completely different views. I like both of them but I don't want to compare them, at least not the story.

    Let's compare it to Narnia instead. In this case, we all no which one is the best. ;)

  • @KrystalVisions82 Not around the world, or here in Europe, or in small towns even in the big old USA. And anyway, the big screen is for the 3D version. What I'd like to see first is a 48 fps 2D version on the biggest screen in my city, which is pretty big, I went there to see the Lord of the Rings, because it's huge. I had to go see The Fellowship twice, because I couldn't see anything of the action sequences in the third row. Last row worked.

  • I can't even imagine what kind of shit the 3D carry-on cameras will do to my head... nausea? If they can't tone it down for The Hobbit, I won't ever go and pay for the 3D version.

  • Return of the King was the 3rd highest grossing film until the last Harry Potter came out. Now ROTK has been pushed down to the 5th position. The Hobbit needs to kick Harry back down the list and fight for the #1 spot. I will watch it every day if I must!

  • @2010Nsync I'll go see The Hobbit even if it is in 3D. There's no doubt. Is money all you think about? They'll get a lot of it because 3D movies cost so fucking much, and all you get is a headache. I might wait for the Blu-Ray, but by then it's too late. They've split it in two just to cash in more on the 3D, which is sort of sad. I'd just like to see the story told on the big screen. It'll probably be even more full of "Bilbo's embellishments" that the book.

  • Considering that most viewers will watch this in 2D (traditional theaters and home TV), one hopes Mr. Jackson will not rely on wow of 3D to carry the films. In addition, the falling attendance for 3D continues, whether over the high price or fading novelty. It would be a shame if The Hobbit's possibilities were sacrificed on a yet-again declining fad.

  • @kustomride It would be a shame, but PJ is an amazing film maker, and he has made 2D movies long enough, and known his fans long enough to know that anything less than the best he can do won't cut it... I have faith in his genius, and the genius of Walsh, Lee, Boyens, and Weta Digital :) It's gonna be amazing!
