Hi Jeff, can you explain more about the last portion of this video, something about taking the break away from the center of the cup??? can you expand on that?
I tried putting while looking at the hole for a season...I found that on short putts it was good but on lags and breaking putts it causes you to push or pull the ball at the hole rather than the line away from the hole that breaks it in the cup.
Jeff. Wouldn't it be better to look at the hole (the target) throughout the stroke? You don't shoot a gun while looking at the trigger. Michael Jordan looked at the hoop not at the ball. Click my name to see how to putt looking at the target.
@jaxfl2 so your saying when you hit a drive you should be looking down the fairway whilst your making your swing. name one pro that looks at the hole whilst making a swing
@grimo000 Oh no! I didn't say that. You CAN'T look at the target with a driver or iron. You wouldn't be able to hit the ball with those clubs. And, you need to stand perpendicular to the line to get power into the swing. Putting is different. There's no problem (in the putting part of the game) hitting the ball without looking at the ball. And, you don't need much power. Face the hole and focus on the target. Your body will learn to follow what your eyes see.
@jaxfl2 That's because the trigger isn't your target. When putting, the ball *is* your target. Do batters look at the spot on the field they want to hit the ball? Of course not, they look at the ball.
@larrybud I respectfully disagree. A baseball player has a 90 degree field to be successful. In putting, you have to be far more accurate - less than a degree for 10 foot putts. It's very difficult to hit a curving baseball going 90 mph. It's not hard to hit a golf ball on the green. Hope you aren't having trouble with that. It is just sitting there motionless. The hole is your target.
@jaxfl2 Hitting a ball 1/2" off center of the putter face is a big miss, and will cause you to miss putts. A center strike is of utmost importance in making putts. There's no reason to look at the hole since lining up the putt is a static. IOW, you have the advantage of lining up a logo on the ball (or a line) to your target line, and can set the putter face and body square to that line.
On top of that, only 4% of putts are straight, so 96% of the time the hole isn't your target anyway.
@larrybud Actually, I've found hitting off center on my putter is not the problem you'd expect. Experiment a bit. And, lining up a logo or line on the ball just gets you close to your target. To make a 20' putt you have to aim to within two-tenths of a degree. You can't do that with a line or a logo. Finally, I hope you have a target for your breaking putts. It's not the hole, but there is a target. Often you can calculate exactly where the target should be.
@jaxfl2 That's my point jax, Looking at the hole doesn't mean you're looking at your target. I disagree with your belief that you can't line up the logo that accurately. It just has to be more accurate than what most people do, which is aiming at an intermediate target. I've done alignment tests with lasers and for me, at least, aligning a line on the ball works very well.
There's a reason that practically no pro looks at the hole or target when putting.
Who is this guy, because taking an ENORMOUS back swing for a 5 footer is insane. You'll never see a good golfer do this :47 for a short putt. What a douche, I'm not watching the rest.
lol putting is all about reading the green and the pace of ur shot. these two things come with only one thing....heaps of practice so if u wanna get better at putting practice its kinda a no brainer
same way tiger strokes it with the right hand dominating the putter but if you want to get the hands through the hitting area good in the full swing coordinate strengthen and teach the left side to lead the clubhead to the hitting area six( 6 inches before contact to 6 inches after ) and then let the right one kick in thanks good video and check me out at hitmanhawky best lessons on the tube ty
you use more than one ball on a driving range? the reason you dont walk 300yards and drive again with the same ball is that the more shots you can take in whatever time you have available the better you will get. the effect isnt as large with putting but the idea remains the same
Jeff.... in the first putt of this vid you do 3 practice strokes to get the feel for the distance and pace...however in your actual stroke you are easily 6-8 inches shorter in your backstroke.. did you re-assess the length or pace? thanks
agree with what your saying regard length of practice swing, but he getting in his minds eye the feel of the put, good bit about stuff like this in darren clarks the mind factor
not a bad tip but will only be effective if your putting stroke is smooth and the tempo is correct. 75% of putting errors comes from body movement during the stroke.

@deanlampe when you do that you want to stop at the ball, causing it to pop kinda and cant follow through.some golf tips on youtube are not that great

we see him putting with one golf ball, can someone tell me why people practice with more than one ball? as you only use one ball on the course
MrPedrogolf 2 years ago
in putting you are looking for a repetitive stroke. using more than 1 ball in practice is simply a timesaver! hope that answers your q
spaceman40012 2 years ago
and on the course we only put with one ball, so why not practice to be perfect with one rather then lots

The butt of the putter should always point at your belly button.
BloodyDoughnut 3 years ago
no you should just make sure your hands are ahead of the ball and not behind
CAsHizZ 3 years ago
It doesn't decrease your odds; the decrease is in the chance of making the putt which is effectively increasing the odds.
