2nd Phase - If orders from phase 1 aren't followed, the interceptor shoots at the intercepted plane's side, as a warning. know as TDA (Tiro de Aviso - Warning Shot).
3rd Phase - Shoot the intercepted plane, damage it and try communicating again.

How many deaths result from smuggling alone? Let's think for a moment...What if the plane made it through and was able to deliver it's cargo to the intended buyer..... And let's say that for each kilo that makes it in to the country there are 5 related deaths....(U.S. law enforcement statistics indicate more than this) . So a plane carrying 100 kilos would be responsible for 500 lives taken. In the end, the deaths of 2 rogue pilots who engage in illegal activity..not news worthy....

@twohelmets Well, I believe that once he crossed the border, the Colombian Air Force had no jurisdiction and had to let him escape. If this happened, they could not question/arrest him. Thats why they constantly are repeating the "miles to the border" in the video. They had to shoot it down before the plane escaped across the border.

Here in Brazil we do kind of the same way.
1st Phase - Planes get side by side, radio and visual communication is made.
2nd Phase - If orders from phase 1 aren't followed, the interceptor shoots at the intercepted plane's side, as a warning. know as TDA (Tiro de Aviso - Warning Shot).
3rd Phase - Shoot the intercepted plane, damage it and try communicating again.
4th Phase - Shoot to Kill if anything else fails.
