I am from Hong Kong and this is definitely not the general English standard at schools in Hong Kong... most of the people in Hong Kong speak much better than them... dunno why this low ranked school would put a vid here to humiliate themselves

@alfred1503 Well compared to some people I met in Zhuhai, its not bad. Question is how brave they are too practice. In general people with bad english are bad because they are too shy to make mistakes. I don;t see them humilatuing themselves. They are practicing. Practicing is the secret to getting better at it.

It is a true fact that English is important. However, it is noticed that students in CMI schools have fewer chances to practise English and they find it hard to acquire this language. Most of them give up. Now this programme at least creates a way to motivate students to use English. Keep on!

I wonder why people in Hong Kong like to spend so many years, time and energy in learning English. English is not that important. Even if you try your best to imitate an American accent with your whole life, you still bear a strange Hong Kong Chinglish accent. It will betrays you and people there will look you down, like we look those mainlander speaking terrible Cantonese.

english doesn't belong to anyone or any nation. even native speakers have their own accent. i like tony blair's accent while others might like bush's. it's a matter of preference. i don't think we can say which is better or superior. i just hope that our students can improve their pronunciation, commuicate effectively in english...n be proud of themselves.

bush does not speak engliah he speaks amaerican with an american accent (there is a difference), Blair and most of then UK (United Kingdom)speaks English with English accents. Who cares what you sound like so long as those that speak English can understand each other.

Netsurfking - English is an international language, being learned amongst 49+ different countries worldwide. Furthermore, having an accent shouldn't be classified as strange, as our main aim is to improve international communication. I just want to say I really appreciate the director's and students' efforts. We have to admit that students in a CMI school are weak in English. Why can't we provide more opportunities for them to use English in the school campus? Their English is not good, however, they are brave enough to face the camera and speak English. Not only students in EMI schools should be encouraged to use English, but also all students in HK.

They're band 3, CMI, they loved the video, and they used the content on English Speaking Day, especially the Form 1-3 students. Of course some students are better than others. And it's not on Hong Kong Island, in the midst of foreigners galore, but further out in the New Territories where opportunities to speak English are quite rare.

alchemist have got a point, it doesnt matter what band they are in, i came from a band 1 local school, half the teachers cant speak proper english... there are only 2 scenarios, those who cant give 2 shits or those who are simply over enthusiastic, when spoken to in english tend to stammer and smile while attempting to be capable at the language

Local Schls are usually really good at both languages in reading & writing, except for the speaking. Whereas many students who study in "International" Schools In HK can speak both the language, but learn lot less in the cantonese culture as well as language.

Most Of the Cons about international schools is that they don't have enough resources, since they are so expensive/Why not?! There are so many different cultures & languages that its hardly memorable at once.
