I really hope they don't put Penguin or Riddler in the next movie. Up till now, the characters have been very life-like and believable. The character of the Riddler is way to close to that of the Joker, except the Joker is much darker and more sadistic...better. Penguin is laughable to say the least. A short, fat nightclub owner with way too much money, a bird fetish, and a variety of umbrellas...ridiculous.

any penguin, no good batman, I think Hoffman is an exceptional actor but it wouldn't make Batman as urband and as realistic as the last 2 films have been.
For the new Batman movie I think instead bringing back old characters like the Riddler, Penguin, Cat Woman, etc...Nolan should introduce characters like Kyodai Ken or Bane, guys that can really challenge Batman.

Personally i believe a guy that should get looked at for the penguin is Josh Mostel (City Slickers, Billy Madison). Something about him just seems like he could really dive into a role like the penguin.
I agree that Jack Black shouldn't be in the running for the role, but the guy has shown signs of true acting talent. At first I also thought he only played the 1 dimensional "rocker guy" character, but in movies like King Kong he really shows depth in acting. Hoffman would be great as the Penguin for sure, probably the best choice. But even though he's not right for this role, I'd say Jack Black has promise as a talented dramatic actor; he just needs to branch off of his current character path.
Although, I appreciate your opinion, I strongly disagree that Jack Black should throw his hat in the ring for the part of the Penguin if there is to be another Batman movie. There's a reason why Black has fit the typecast of naive, dimwitted, and rocker wanna-be. He's simply not a versatile actor, and definitely doesn't fit in the role of such dark movies as the Batman films.

I remember reading that Nolan doesn't even want characters like Penguin in his movies because he wants to keep it realistic, but honestly they could still have the character in there and just not call him by his real name Oswald Cobblepot. @FredwardDwayne Danny Devito's Penguin wasn't exactly what I would consider a good comic book adaption to film. It really showed how well he can act though. But it wasn't the Penguin that Batman fans are use to. If I remember correctly, he wasn't ever a circus freak.

If you watch the Dark Knight and have read some of the comics (which nobody seems to have done) it leaves numerous possibilities for enemies in the "3rd" film. Meh.. Penguin isn't a realistic character that Nolan would be interested in. Lets face it. We are going to see the Riddler in the new movie (which has been confirmed that they are making) and I hope to GOD they don't cast Depp as Edward Nigma. Don't Need Burtons influences on Nolans Vision.

I trust Nolan because he knows what he wants in a Batman film and he's done wonders in revamping the Batman films. It still would be awesome if the Penguin came in after the events of Dark Knight in which there's a big power vacuum among the mob.

So why the hell u think Nolan would typecast actors for the Penguin, Catwoman, or even the Riddler roles? He's not gonna go with the obvious choices that everybody expects. Johnny Depp didn't play Jack Sparrow, The Mad Hatter, etc. He was Johnny Depp playing Johnny Depp. He has one persona as an actor and it would be a massive waste to award him the role.
My pick for Riddler if he's in Batman 3: Jackie Earle Haley (played Rorschach in Watchmen). He has the natural features of Edward Nigma, and could easily adopt Riddler's neurotic identity (view his performance as a nervous on-edge sex offender in Little Children for reference).

May I know what drugs you are on ? Compare Depp's performances, he is completely different in most role- different accents and voice tones and facial expressions and mannerisms.Then compare it to how he really is in real life. He is nothing like his characters. In the two roles you mentioned especially he immersed himself in the character, completely different voice and body language, not to mention his brilliant performance in Edward S. Personally i believe a guy that should get looked at for the penguin is Josh Mostel (City Slickers, Billy Madison). Something about him just seems like he could really dive into a role like the penguin.

I agree that Jack Black shouldn't be in the running for the role, but the guy has shown signs of true acting talent. At first I also thought he only played the 1 dimensional "rocker guy" character, but in movies like King Kong he really shows depth in acting. Hoffman would be great as the Penguin for sure, probably the best choice. But even though he's not right for this role, I'd say Jack Black has promise as a talented dramatic actor; he just needs to branch off of his current character path.

Although, I appreciate your opinion, I strongly disagree that Jack Black should throw his hat in the ring for the part of the Penguin if there is to be another Batman movie. There's a reason why Black has fit the typecast of naive, dimwitted, and rocker wanna-be. He's simply not a versatile actor, and definitely doesn't fit in the role of such dark movies as the Batman films.

Honestly , I'd have a hard time taking him seriously. I mean , he's great for comedy don't get me wrong. But lets not forget that Chris Nolans Batman wouldn't have a very comical Penguin.
That being said I think we'd need someone who could pull off a much darker persona of the penguin. PSH would've been great.
