Yeah mate. It's got that odd, pulsed firing order. It's supposed to enhance power delivery, making it behave more like a V twin Ducati than a straight 4. Yamaha had to sacrifice top end, cause they lowered the bore and raised the stroke to have a torquier, pulsed power delivery. They obviously lost flow, hence why they lost volumetric efficiency, and subsequently: top end. But everyone seems to like this new engine.

slip on - replace only the muffler

full - replace the muffler and the exhaust piping altogether

slip on is just the muffler (the big cylinder shape thing at the back of the bike)

full system is the entire pip kit fromt he engine to the mufflers and the mufflers.

slip on (muffler) is not designed to work with the stock pipes so you will not get the full effect out of slip on's

best to wait and get the full system rather than just the mufflers

@mushrume mate they do get pretty hot under the seat, definately warmer than my 748 with 50mm Underseat Termis. The engine itself doesn't run hot like the Duke, but ur ass gets properly toasty. I recommend a test ride for yourself as Perth in summer is likely to be hotter than where you are.

The obvious thing to do before buying either of those bikes is to testride each of them. Many people can say a bike is really good, but if you don't like it for any reason than you just wasted a whole lot of mony.

I would personaly buy the R1. They say the gsx-r is a bit more userfriendly though. The R1 for me estheticly and the sound with akra's just does it.

iirc, a big bang engine has the same crankshaft as a screamer, a flatplane crank is a completely different crank.

That's because of the crossplane crankshaft that the new 09 R1 uses. It is to eliminate the inertial torque "fluctuations" that a linear crankshaft has. Therefore it has an unsymmetrical firing. It's also called a "big-bang" engine and is used in motogp. That's why it sounds like a v-twin.
