I haven't tried it with other combinations. I used to have a war/nec I loved, but, haven't gone back to. I have ideas how I could do it with that, too.
I can gather some data if you want to know how many gathered per hour, or per run, on average. This is normal difficulty. I want to try Hard and see how that goes.
I just do this with my 55 monk. Just fun and on HM ofcourse

I do this on my Ele/Monk. Takes about 1 minute to kill them all once i get to them. I use fire moves, not those long cooldown smite moves.
