My brother got hit by a car and broke his collar bone and smashed up his legs, he was prescribed an opiate and found they made him groggy and ill feeling. Instead he took aleve and smoked weed every day and found it worked well enough that he could function without too much pain but wasn't so doped up that he had to just lay there.
