I'm doing some research for a project I'm working on, do the hydraulic pumps in barber chairs go up and down or just down? As in, if you're sitting in one, can you pull a lever that lifts you up with the weight of you inside it? Is the pump strong enough to lift 150-200 pounds? Let me know, thanks.
Does anyone know how much oil to put into a Koken Chair? I plan on using hydraulic oil. I heard i should aim for about 2-3 inches beneath the pump arm. Is this correct??? Thanks.
@driller1960 the stand? Do you mean the base? Most old ones are cast metal with a porcelain cover. If it's frozen, it's probably rusty. Try spraying some WD40 in the pump underneath the chair. Let it sit for a couple days and try to spin it after that. But it's hard to say what you need to do without seeing it. Even if I could see it, it would still be difficult.
Hey slim I have just what you need .I have the exact same chair with nice base working brake ,really good clean condition nickel plated ring around the bottom base that comes in contact with the floor and even the headrest, that will need to be restuffed.what state are you in.I'm in southeastern wisconsin
hey slim, Old ones are the best! You americans have the best chairs. I have a barber shop in england and im thinking of geting my belmont chair re covered. last time I took a chair to get covered they told me it would be cheeper to disasemble it myself first but I just cant work out how to seperate the back from the frame. Anyone got any ideas?
I have a 1890's Kochs Grand Prize Model that I am restoring. It is missing it's hydraulic post that mounts the chair to the base. If anyone knows where I can find one please let me know. Also looking for tacks to reupholster the chair as well. Thanks
no, I haven't found a brake or any info. The fluid goes in through a hole underneath the seat. There is probably a screw cap on it. You can unscrew it and add it in. Don't add too much or else it will leak.
