  • Wtf?!

Dang... Now I feel like I gotta step it up now!

  • Too much emphasis on age... a good pianist is a good pianist and when you emphasize their young age so much it distracts from talent and makes it seem like a novelty act.

That aside, this kid is pretty good.

  • I really don't understand people who say...he's too young...not enough power in his fingers. This technical carp is for 100year old deaf judges who think they understand music.

Dimitris Sgouros was only 11 years old when he learned this piece and he did it in only 6 days. At age of 13 he made his debut with Mstislav Rostropovich conducting the London Symphonic Orchestra and until today it surpasses many performances of the rach3 by leaps and bounds.

Great performance Sean, all the best!

  • @Mikeznation That what you write about Sgouros is not true. Ever examined the hand of a a 11 eleven year old child and consequently looked at the score? I simply dont believe all these hypes.

  • @abmsghost1 Hey LOSER! Tell me, how did it happen? Did your unemployed father waste his last money on a hooker or did your mom sell her pussy to score some crack? Keeping your obvious severe mentally handicapted brain in consideration I think the latter....

  • @magicalaidsfrog Well.I would have been your daddy but the guy in front of me had exact change.:-)

  • @magicalaidsfrog I see that you maintain familytradition pimping that black gay North African you displayed on your lousy video in which you mistakenly mentioned my name.:-) A well informed source, close to you, told me that you are addicted to his oral skills.:-O. I prefer lips like that on a black woman,BUT HEY!!DIFFERENT FOLKS <DIFFERENT STROKES!!! C U.

  • 5:46 - 5:58 was a bit fast for my taste but it still was amazing.

  • Respect.

  • younger and younger people star to play hard stuffs like this one..

probably, in the next 20 years, there will be a piano lesson for fetus

  • @rvn10rvn17 yea i wonder what his music lessons at school were like?

  • is there a video of the entire thing?

hot damn, though. 14 years old? didn't think it was possible to learn such a difficult piece at such a young age. when did you start playing?

  • Thank you for taking the time out of your young life to learn this and play it so well, with such maturity. I love Rachmaninoff and you clearly "get" what it's all about :)

I'd love you to put this up without the video, or your age. It'd be interesting to see how many people then conclude that you were "too young" to play it!

All the best for the future. And bravo

  • dommage tres belle patte mais pas du tout en mesure c gravissime

  • No matter your age, you have an amazing gift and talent. A pleasure to listen to.

  • No matter one's age, to play the piano in this manner is an admirable feat. You should be very proud of yourself and your abilities. As a classical pianist myself, you are an absolute delight to listen to.

  • Bennet, did you play the Ossia cadenza in the first movement or the original cadenza?

  • @gphilipsparks A hybrid of the two -- the original then at the diminished section I switch to the Ossia, then back to the original when the A dominant resolved to d minor again.

  • @slambennett Bennett, would you say this piece was very difficult for you to learn or not very hard at all?

  • Why is he not around b/c in that field you are absolutely married to the piano, period, it's total, total commitment to maintain the chops and the music thereof. Demanding is an understatement! Now factor in all the political nonsense that goes along for the ride and one wonders why anyone would choose to do nothing but perform concerts. You have to be 100% committed to the keys and only a handful or less can take that kind of life consistently.

  • @slambennett if you have the talent to play a piece 99.99999% of people in the world cannot play then play it. Should the pieces written by the great composers in their early years be dismissed because they were young?? I think we all know the answer should be no.

Very well played even at that young age......

  • his heart is too young...

  • this, along with rach 2, are my favorite pieces for piano. period.

astounding performance. and more of a feat regarding your age at the time this was recorded. bravo.

  • Wonderful playing!

  • トランペットが・・・

  • Very Very well played. you are truly amazing but as a pro. pianist my self I would like to ask why do you put your age after the title of the video? Just because you can play tha or something else at such age does not make you a great pianist. Making music and not just playing what is on the page, expressing your-self that what maked a great pianist.

  • DdAaAyUuUmmmmmm 14 years old ?!?!?!

  • 1:45-2:06 is deep, insightful and shows what being musical means.

  • @voolare I'd argue that Rachmaninov kept that up for pretty much the entire darned piece.

  • @BenMcCormack91 quite irrelevant argumentation! Imagine enjoying a nice painting made by a talented 14year old boy, and then you hear somebody commenting "well, Picasso was better". Well ..DUH! What's the point?

  • @voolare Back off; I'm talking about composition, not performance.

Understandable misinterpretation of what I said, though... probably should have clarified.

  • Honey I hope you had a life of music you just loved and played with joy. David Helfgott is from my town,Adelaide. SHINE IN whatever way you need to. God . Rachmaninov was so MODERN. SO NOW. I hear contemperary music and hear his threads throughout. I LOVED YOUR CONCERTO. BRAVO. I'm standing in my loungeroom and applauding.

  • there were mistakes at 4:35, but many other professional pianists like Bronfman also stacked it in this part as well!!!

i wanna hear your interpretation of the 1st movement cadenza

  • @sackwhacker whacker is a good word. GOT KEY ENVY? Check box. YES. SHHHH there is a musician on stage.

  • David Helfgott!!<3

    Best.-Ever

  • I was born this day

  • @MORIZROSENTHAL

I was watching most of his videos and i was asking the same question.

  • Wow!

When Vladimir Horowitz played the Rach 3, he was 15 or 16.

  • Strong solo good woodwinds

    Weak brass

    Strings etc. are OK

  • this is just beyond comprehension for SOO many reasons........I mean, WOW..

  • where is he now?

  • Whatever happened to this kid? He should be around 30 now. Really this is amazing for a 14 y/o kid to be taking on such a HUGE piece... but I've gotta admit, if he were my son, i'd be beaming w/ pride.

  • @mosichat Im a friend of Seans, hes still around, and still amazing..=)

  • omg, this guys is awesome, and your friend... i'm only a beginner piano player and I'M 14... how old is he right now??? and how 'bout you? do you do anything(just asking.)?

  • he must have had two friends: the vaseline and his hand. i can't imagine having a life if you had to learn this

  • mnon :/

  • Rachmaninoff is very hard in mental in age 14.

  • bof bof...

  • Bravo Maestro!!!!

  • Never heard Rach 3 pummelet like here.

Furthermore this should be for piano and ORCHESTRA which latter is extremely flat. Anyway..

  • you should hear ME playing it then! i bet i can play it worse.

  • HAHA you arent the only one. thats for sure

  • Gordan Bennett!!!!..lol

  • rach 3 in age 14!!!!!!oh my ...

  • he is crazy to play rach 3 at 14 age....!...

  • He's a talent.

  • This boy is amazing! he is only 14 !!

  • Absolutely amazing! Is there not supposed to be a run at 2:46, though?

  • No, in the score I have there's no run there

  • I know exactly what you mean ha ha. There's like a little Glissando thing isn't there? I've heard Lang Lang do that before.

  • no, the glissando that you're talking about happens at a similar spot in the exposition toward the beginning of the movement. this is an excerpt of only the last half of the last movement

  • yeah, sorry, you're right! I was mistaken... this is just the last half of the movement. thanks for putting me right.

  • Wow....this makes me sooooooooo jealous! I could practice my entire life and never be able to play this piece! This guy is amazing.

  • no parece de 14

  • no es posible!

  • sounds like 'organman' is a player-hater. You play it dude, and post it on you tube. Where's your music? This kid did a fantastic job!!!!

  • Fantastic!! Added to my favorites!

  • holy shit!

  • Just chill and talk about the music not mediocrity and twats and superficiality and threats.

  • your a legend kid,, you really are,,, whereas the other nasty non believers are just pricks,,, you persue your dreams your already a prodigy in my eyes...

  • I agree Organman is a bitch

  • Thank you.

  • organman52 stop being a cunt. Stop thinking you're special in any way. You are clearly a pompous twat. Try to be somebody in real life instead of off-loading your flatulent half-baked opinions on us youtube viewers. I've seen your posts several times now and they are all pathetic and puerile-you obviously have a severe personality disorder or retarded development. Go and play with your friends... what's that?..... you don't have any?... Go and play with yourself then, or play with your organ xx

  • omg i'm 14 i can barely play mendelssohn....ahahah dang this is awesome

  • This is impressive as all hell. I could barely play a Rachmaninov prelude at 14, let alone a concerto, let alone the third concerto. Well done!

  • OMFG!

  • WOULD YOU ALL STFU PLZ

  • Obviously Rachmininov's 3rd piano concerto is more difficult, demanding and complex than Rachmaninov's other works, but emotionally and aesthetically I enjoy the experience of listening to the 2nd piano concerto much, much more. In fact I feel like searching and finding a fine performance of it right now.....

  • i don't beleave you.. i played yann tiersen when I was 4 years old.. it's easy.. but I still don't play this

  • Comment removed

  • You played the Rach 3 when you were 2 years old? Why do people make such outrageous lies like this? Your fingers would not have been big enough to play any Rachmaninov pieces at 2 years old.

You're obviously just a piano enthusiast who would like the prestige of playing the piano professionally in front of an audience but can't because you never practiced as a child. Now you just go on YouTube making stupid claims such as a 2 year old playing the Rach 3.

    Go back to playing "Chopsticks".

  • What will be the future of music? How will we create sounds not previously heard in the world of "Tonal" Music? All I am asking for is for you people to simply gain optimism. Love whatever pieces you like, but I simply wish to discover not where music has been, but where it will be. Get it?

I would be honored if Sean Bennett would perform some of my compositions. I write them for people to enjoy. Does he compose?

  • you all make me laugh with your lack of "optimism" ! Take a music appreciation course. This is a good pianist. I never said he wasn't. I never intended to piss off anyone.

I am simply stating the facts. Rachmaninoff is from the 20th century, and newer composers are composing works that become more MENTALLY challenging instead of PHYSICALLY challenging. Look some up. Sheeesh people! Join the rest of the 21st century...

  • The point is.. is he a great composer now ? because without that.. this means NOTHING.

  • Rachmaninoff's 3rd concerto at 14?

14 years old and playing his 2nd or 1st concerto's is amazing enough. But the third?

    This guy is a freak...

  • Dmitri Sgouros played it at 13

  • you speak as if the first and second concertos were less demanding than the third. Too much cinema?

  • sean bennett, put the negative comments aside. especially that prick banging on about steve reich lol, you and i both know he's a lauging stock :)

you're gonna contribute greatly to the world of music, props to you, and good luck with it!

  • exceptional

  • i cant understand why a 14 years old kid would try something like that.. when i was 14 i played only mozart and bach. A good young player should try to master mozart and bach before trying to perform rachmaninoff.

  • maybe he already mastered bach and mozart when he was 6 or 7? have you thought about that???

  • if you look music only in "mastering" the technical points" and going to the next "level" then youll never get to play pieces like rachmaninov which are not in any way superior to mozart or bach. WHile 14 is early, im sure h really enjoyed looking at the different voices in this piece as i have but and not at all ready to play this. By your comment it sounds as if your jealous by calling him not a good player because "a good player should try to master (etc) before Rachmaninov"

    -shin

  • if his teacher was half decent, which evidently looks like it, they'd have fed him mozart and bach alongside rach. i agree that he may not be musically mature enough to explore all the aspects of this piece, but tbh, mozart and bach are not any easier to understand, if anything, for such young blood, crack sparkle fireworks pieces such as these are more suited to younger, more emotionally active players such as the young fella here

  • What gives you the right to say what he should and shouldn't be playing? Are you his teacher? Just because your teacher limited you to what you studied doesn't mean that you should pass judgement on this kid. What do you say about someone like Evgeny Kissin who recorded one of Chopin's piano concerto at 12. I mean give me break. This kid plays with such a mature passion for his age. No, not the best interpretation but at 14 he plays this better than some conservatory students twice his age.

  • There are three words that bother me about your comment: 'kid' 'I mean' 'interpretation' you should consider stopping to use them.

  • And you should also strongly consider not responding to any of my comments. How about that?

  • That's not an option, unless, of course, you are going to hunt me down and put a knife through me. In that case, I will step on you, as I would step on any insect.

  • Wow, another youtube "e-gangsta" who takes pride in talking shit behond a screen. Have fun!

  • You are the one to talk. It was YOUR thinly veiled 'threat' which prompted my 'gansta' response, as you put it. Just go away, how about that?

  • You made a comment to me telling me wtf I should and should not be saying. I tell you to strongly not consider responding to me since you were bothered by my comments. (I don't see the threat in that "thinly" veiled or not). Your bitch ass turns around and then responds and tells me your are going to "step on me". And I responded accordingly. Now why don't you take your own fucking advice and go away? Especially considering I never addressed you in the first place. Keep it moving....

  • because we enjy insulting your ignorance.

  • i am sorry, i am mistaken.

The reason i thoguht it was in a different pitch was because the video began in the middle of the song, where the key is modulated into a different one, and I thought that was the beginning of the piece. It is actually in its correct key, but to answer your question, yes I do have perfect pitch lol

  • this piece is in a different key than the original lol o-O

  • damn.. the orchestra is really bad. Great playing though for his age.

  • but can he play Steve Reich's Piano Phase by himself on two pianos? (like I have done! Check on my page hehe.)

Some modern music poses new challenges not previously attempted by other traditional pieces of classical music. If he can play Piano Phase on two pianos, THEN, I will be impressed. Well, a bit more impressed than I am now.

::I am the ONLY other person besides Peter Aidu on ALL of Youtube to be able to play Piano Phase alone on two pianos::

  • yeh, you kinda suck.... sorry

    this kid owns you

  • not to toot your own horn or anything... humility is a virtue, you should work on it.

  • Comment removed

  • I'm sorry, but I honestly don't care. This is more about Mr. Bennett than yourself.

  • steve reich's a prick, and you suck at piano. and by the description you put next to your profile, doesn't look like you're much of a real classical musician

  • No davidconjefferson, you're the only person on all of Youtube who BOTHERED learning it, not the only person capable of it. That kind of arrogance won't do you much favors.

  • Comment removed

  • yeah, but has he been laid yet?

  • lol

    he's still amazing

  • а я думал,что только Запорожский оркестр играет плохо!!!

  • i performed this piece when i was 6

  • i performed this piece when i came out of mom's womb

  • cool, that was when i recorded it for the third time

  • I first played this piece at age 37... in 1909. That's right, I'm the reincarnation of Sergei Rachmaninoff.

  • I just played this piece now in my player, and i have the perfect pitch.

  • OMG, stfu noob!

  • in my media player... read the comments before ¬¬

  • lmfao

  • bullshit

  • Ramdon, since you claim to be very good at piano, there is a tendency for me to think otherwise. Just by calling this concerto a song is a very strong indication of that. This piece is extremely difficult, but you wouldn't know that if you can't play it. You need to rethink your knowledge before you speak. A prodigy is a child that plays as well as a very well trained adult. Look up child prodigy Aimi Kobayashi here on YouTube and judge for yourself. She is just now 13 yrs old .

  • Well I don't call it a piece just because I really don't care wha the official term for it is, I just call it by whatever I can relate with easier.

Yes I know it is very difficult, but I never said it was easy. All I said was that it's easier than what a lot of people think. It has gained a reputation for being the hardest peice of music out there and the claims on how hard it is have been exaggerated a little.

Hahaha, you know, to be a prodigy, you dont have to be a child.

  • gosh!!!!! such a beautiful piece! played soo beautifully by this freaking 14 year old!!!!!!

  • Did Rachmaninoff have Synesthesia?

  • Wonderful Job!

  • Oh ! It looks capreolate. ^o^

    He has BIG HANDS.

I think that he plays slowly.

    But he plays good.

  • don't make fun of him this is one of the hardest pieces ever written

  • according to a lot of people, *the* hardest piece ever written

  • Is your concerto ready yet?

  • once again.thats one of the most preposterous statments ive ever heard

  • Excellent!!!!!!!!!

  • con 14 años tocar esto, no hay otra explicación que talento

  • this was in 1993, he decided to quit concert playing and went to harvard of yale, one of those, and studied why music stays in people's head, he still makes recordings though. He is very very good.

  • I think the films quality could be improved and I think that the piano player has a bright future

  • Age is completely irrelevant to a persons performance. There is natural talent, but that is useless if they don't work. Obviously, he has talent and has worked hard on this piece so shut up about his age.

  • Very decent playing, but the film is so out of focus its annoying. Other than that, half decent sound quality I suppose. I guess what I'm really saying here is that it's hard to judge your playing given that this is not a pro orchestra to inspire you... and who knows if there was even a piano technician to help you out. So yes, I think you are a fantastic pianist from what I see here. Hope you have a great career in music ahead of you.

  • shut up about age.

  • The tempo might be just a tad slow, but for a 14 y/o kid to give this kind of performance is shattering.

  • he is amazing! smooth like butter

  • I'd love to play this... it's my favorite piece for piano. Only problem, I don't have the skillz to do it yet. Maybe I'll attempt it in 20 years.

    btw, very nice job.

  • AMAZING..

  • I like it very much.

    I'm 15 but i can't play it =(

maybe i could try it next year...

i just had tour with 1st chopin concerto (pretty difficult !! ) and next summer i play saint saens 2nd =) that's easier

  • show your videos of you, otherwise shut up.

  • much much much difficult than chopin, i also won young artist with chopin

  • My comment is not to criticize the pianist. I just want to point out that the age of the musician does not add or remove anything to the performance.

I remember the comment of a radio researcher who said it was so hard to find 4 musical critiques to participate to the show of "blind critics", not knowing who they were listening. They were all afraid to say the opposite of what they had already written about the musician!

  • ONLY 14??!?! OMFG!!!!!!!! How AMAZING!!!!!!! HE IS SUCH A GENIUS, HE MUST GET LAID ALL THE TIME! WOW!

  • What's your talent Markohoppis, standing in line for unemployment checks and pleasuring yourself without the use of your hands?

  • And yours blackbobcreative, seeking to reproach individuals based on simple comments, of which there are millions?

  • I dont know what the big deal is about some fancy arsed 14 year old piano player?? I'm 29 and i can nearly play chopsticks without stopping:)

  • The one thing you got nearly right was your nickname Ultimate mealtball should be replaced with ultimate arsehole !!! Why do you bother coming on the tube and more importantly what even bother to view amazing stuff like this if you are so ignorant to appreciate it ?

  • Stupid motherfuck...only thing you can feel is envy

  • The only thing he feels is disguist at the misinterpretation of his comment.

  • I have a feeling he was only sarcastic... sarcasm? I think it's a common idea.

  • Was the obvious sarcasm of this comment missed on you all?!

  • I think my messaged was clear on the fact I didn't miss it...

  • Did I respond to your post?

    Sorry.

  • I've never seen such a great, talented player! At 14 so fast and controlled! Amazing! He's almost better than Evgeny Kissin!

  • WoW!! I'm 14 too

  • Ok, show us what you can do at the piano

  • Really? Who cares?

  • fast accurate fingers oO

  • amazing

  • THIS PIANOZ IS DILDOZ.

  • this is a bit too much for me. he's only fourteen?!?!? wow. watch out busoni piano concerto.

  • this is insane!

    mindblowing

  • isn't this suppose to be one of the most difficult pieces ever written for piano?? holy shit this kid is okay then
